Did you know there are several pet friendly stores around the Fort Wayne area to which you can bring a well-mannered, leashed dog? Aside from the obvious pet stores, you can take your dog to some of the home improvement stores like Lowes and Home Depot and farm stores like Rural King and Tractor Supply. Daisy here loves visiting the Vessel Refillery in Leo Crossing as well as Hobby Lobby, Joann Fabric, and Half Price Books. Below is a list we've started of businesses that are pet friendly. Do you know of another we are missing? Comment on this post to let us all know!
The Vessel Refillery
Home depot
Lowes
Rural King
Tractor Supply
Hobby Lobby
Joann Fabric
Michaels
Half Price Books
Clothes Mentor
Barnes and Noble on Thomas Rd
Maurice's on Thomas Rd
Maurice's in Angola
Call ahead to be sure:
Post Office
Sherwin Williams
Banks and Credit Unions
Some restaurants with outdoor seating will allow you to dine outside with your dog (obviously weather permitting and call ahead)
Some shops around the downtown Fort Wayne area
Some shops in Jefferson Pointe
Some stores do not allow pets and only allow service dogs. It is very important as a responsible pet owner that you do not abuse this policy. Claiming a dog is an emotional support animal does not grant that dog the same privileges as a service dog. A service dog is trained to perform a specific service such as a guide dog for the vision impaired, hearing dog for the hearing impaired, mobility assistance dogs, seizure alert dogs, diabetic alert dogs, allergy detection dogs or medical alert dogs. Claiming to have a service dog when you, in fact, do not is not only dishonest, it can actually be hazardous to the individuals who need their service dogs. A true service dog has undergone years of training, is trained to ignore other dogs in order to perform it's service task, is calm and focused in various situations and is vitally important to their handler. According to a service dog brochure from the ADA, "Fake service dogs can hurt the reputation and acceptance of valid service dogs and the disabled persons who truly need those dogs to assist them."
Do not bring pets into:
Menards
Grocery stores
Stores with grocery sections (Walmart, Meijer, Target)
Glenbrook Mall
Allen County Public Library
Do call ahead and ask if your well-mannered, leashed pet can accompany you in their business. You might be surprised at how many stores will say yes! But please respect those stores that say no.

‼️Construction Update:‼️

We are so excited to be moving into the second phase of construction! Starting Monday, November 4th, we ask that all clients start using our new client entrance (pictured below). The new parking lot will also be available for use on Monday. The side entrance door that clients have been currently using to enter the building will no longer be accessible; it will only be accessible to the construction crew and employees. We have been operating out of 4 exam rooms for the past few months, and that will continue for the foreseeable future. But once the remodel is completed, we will have 10 exam rooms and 2 comfort rooms! We thank you all for your continued patience and understanding during the construction process. We are so excited for everyone to see the final result!

👻 Halloween is next week! And do you know what is scarier than all of the ghouls, goblins and witches? 🍫 Your pets getting sick or hurt from partaking in the festivities! Here are some tips to avoid a frightening trip to the vet:

🎃 No sweets for your sweetie! Chocolate, candy and candy wrappers can make your pets very sick. Make sure you keep all candy and trash out of your pet's reach.
🎃 Glow sticks are popular to use for trick-or-treating, and pets can be tempted to get their paws on them thinking they're a good chew toy. If pets ingest the liquid within a glow stick, they can experience drooling, gagging and vomiting. Skin and eye irritation can also occur.
🎃 If you're passing out candy, keep your pets on a leash or in a separate room to prevent them from running out the door.
🎃 If your pets will be wearing a costume, make sure it isn't too restrictive or they can't accidentally ingest any part of it if they chew on it.

This week is National Veterinary Technician week! We are blessed to have some of the most caring and hardworking technicians. They are extremely knowledgeable, having to graduate from an accredited college, pass the national board exam, and then proceed to become licensed by the state. They demonstrate their dedication to this profession on a daily basis. But while we celebrate our technicians this week, we also celebrate our entire staff! Everyone is as equally hard working, making sure your pets are well taken care of. We will be celebrating everyone all week long! 🩷

Our Story

Welcome To Aboite Animal Hospital! Aboite Animal Hospital, Ltd. is a small animal/exotic veterinary hospital. Over the past four decades, we have developed a reputation as a veterinary hospital which serves our community with the utmost honesty, integrity and compassion. Dr. Dan Rodgers founded Aboite Animal Hospital in 1973 after graduating from Purdue University. The hospital was originally located in Times Corners, and then moved to its current location in 1995. After 47 years of practice, Dr. Rodgers retired in January 2018. He was well known for his kindness and compassion towards animals, as well as their owners.

Dr. Brian Koesters and Dr. Bill Chastain, along with their partner Dr. Jamie Stover, bought the practice from Dr. Rodgers, and are going to continue the quality care that Aboite Animal Hospital is known for. Together, they own Summit Veterinary Associates, which consists of 3 hospitals: Animal Hospital of Syracuse, Cedar Creek Veterinary Clinic, and Aboite Animal Hospital. Dr. Koesters and Dr. Chastain are both graduates of the Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine, and Dr. Linda Parker graduated from Ross University after completing her clinical training at Oklahoma State University. Dr. Nicole Koch also graduated from Ross University, and completed her clinical training at Purdue University. They are in turn supported by an exceptional team of registered veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and reception staff. Our goal is to maintain the highest standards of veterinary medicine. Having been certified by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) since 1996, Aboite Animal Hospital continues to meet its changing high standards. In April of 2016, we became certified as a Feline Friendly Practice, meaning we have and will continue to find ways to ease the stress on cats while traveling to our hospital and while receiving care at our hospital. We strive to keep up with latest breakthroughs in veterinary medicine, and will continue to offer the hightest quality care to our patients.
