We know that most animals dislike coming to see us. The vet can be a scary place with all of the strange smells, sounds and people. But when your pets are stressed they don't always allow us to touch them, which makes it rather hard for us to help them. We do not believe in forcing a pet down to "just get it done and over with" - that mentality is traumatizing for everyone involved. That's why in certain instances we prescribe PVP medication (pre-visit pharmaceuticals).

Experts recommend washing your pet's food and water bowls at least once a day. If not washed often enough, a substance called "biofilm" (a combination of bacteria, fungi and algae 🤢) can grow on the surface of these materials which your pet can ingest every time they eat or drink. Ceramic, glass, and stainless steel are the recommended materials to use for feeding pets, because grooves can form in plastic that acts as a breeding ground for bacteria. So, how often do you wash your pets bowls?

Below are a few examples of vegetables that are safe for dogs to consume. Keep in mind that you should avoid butter, oil and other flavorings when offering these to your dogs! Remove stems and skin where necessary, and never feed your dog corn straight from the cob! Ingesting corn cobs can lead to a GI obstruction. Always remove the corn kernels prior to offering it to your dog.

❄️ It's a common misconception that animals can tolerate the colder weather better than their human counterparts. And while that is true to some extent, cold weather can still have a negative impact on our pets! If they have short hair, are young or old, or have underlying health issues, they are more susceptible to weather-related illnesses. While we dream of warmer weather, keep your pets cozy this winter by snuggling up under the blankets and following these winter safety tips! ❄️

Our Story

Welcome To Aboite Animal Hospital! Aboite Animal Hospital, Ltd. is a small animal/exotic veterinary hospital. Over the past four decades, we have developed a reputation as a veterinary hospital which serves our community with the utmost honesty, integrity and compassion. Dr. Dan Rodgers founded Aboite Animal Hospital in 1973 after graduating from Purdue University. The hospital was originally located in Times Corners, and then moved to its current location in 1995. After 47 years of practice, Dr. Rodgers retired in January 2018. He was well known for his kindness and compassion towards animals, as well as their owners.

Dr. Brian Koesters and Dr. Bill Chastain, along with their partner Dr. Jamie Stover, bought the practice from Dr. Rodgers, and are going to continue the quality care that Aboite Animal Hospital is known for. Together, they own Summit Veterinary Associates, which consists of 3 hospitals: Animal Hospital of Syracuse, Cedar Creek Veterinary Clinic, and Aboite Animal Hospital. Dr. Koesters and Dr. Chastain are both graduates of the Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine, and Dr. Linda Parker graduated from Ross University after completing her clinical training at Oklahoma State University. Dr. Nicole Koch also graduated from Ross University, and completed her clinical training at Purdue University. They are in turn supported by an exceptional team of registered veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and reception staff. Our goal is to maintain the highest standards of veterinary medicine. Having been certified by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) since 1996, Aboite Animal Hospital continues to meet its changing high standards. In April of 2016, we became certified as a Feline Friendly Practice, meaning we have and will continue to find ways to ease the stress on cats while traveling to our hospital and while receiving care at our hospital. We strive to keep up with latest breakthroughs in veterinary medicine, and will continue to offer the hightest quality care to our patients.
