Song birds are dying and becoming sick in five Indiana counties, the Indiana DNR announce Tuesday, June 22, 2021. The counties include Monroe Clark Jefferson Lagrange Lake County‘s ‘s. Test for influenza and west Nile have been tested negative. Final results are yet to be determined. Birds affected are:  Blue Jays common grackles northern Cardinals brown headed cowbird birds and European starling‘s. Signs of illness are: neurological signs of illness eye swelling and crusty discharge, blood coming from mouth, weakness. Keep baths clean with freshwater. Clean and disinfect all feeders with hot soapy water with 10% bleach. Use alcohol wipes around fitting ports. Don’t handle birds without gloves. Report any dead birds to:
On.IN.gov/sickwildlife. There is no need at this time to stop feeding the birds unless you are in these five counties.
