Not Every Dog Needs or Wants to Be Touched

It’s important to understand that not every dog needs to be or wants to be touched by a human being. When people touch dogs without considering how the dog is feeling, that action is often selfish and done for the human’s benefit, not the dog’s. Ignoring a dog’s body language, energy, or emotional state is exactly how people get bit, and sometimes they won’t even see it coming. If you don’t understand dog psychology or body language, you could easily find yourself in a dangerous situation by simply reaching out to pet a dog. The respectful thing to do is to always ask the owner first, and never just walk up to a dog you don’t know and touch it. Just like humans, not every dog wants to be pet or touched.

An Exercise to Stop Your Dog From Barking at the Doorbell 🔔

Dogs live entirely in the moment, which is why the exercise in this video is so effective. It gives you controlled repetitions to help your dog reshape the association they’ve created with the doorbell. Most dogs learn that when the doorbell rings, excitement explodes inside the house, and they match that energy by rushing forward toward the sound. If we don’t intervene and give them a different job, the pattern just reinforces itself. This exercise teaches your dog how to hold space and relax, shifting their brain from “move forward” to “pause, step back, and settle” whenever they hear the doorbell. It’s absolutely OK to over-desensitize your dog to these sounds for practice; the goal is to turn this new calm response into a healthy habit over time.

Relationship Is More Valuable Than Training!!!

The relationship you have with your dog is the single most important factor in building a strong human-dog bond. Without trust and connection, training becomes extremely difficult because your dog won’t look to you for guidance or safety in challenging situations. Relationship is the foundation on which everything else is built—without it, there is nothing solid to train on. That’s why it’s so important to invest time into earning your dog’s trust and respect before jumping straight into commands or obedience work. A relationship cannot be taught or handed off; it must be developed and earned through patience, consistency, and quality time together.

** Personal Post**

This is our sweet baby boy Reese. We absolutely love him to death. With April being Autism Awareness month, we figured it was time to share with the world.

Two months ago Reese was diagnosed with Autism. As parents Kindsey and I were left scared, uneducated and a tad bit lost on how to handle the news. But as we grew to accept the diagnosis and the initial sting wore off…one thing that never changed is our love for him.

Reese is such a happy soul, lover of fruit, French fries and nuggets. Biggest fan of his big brother Rett, Buzz light year/Toy Story collector and the literal bright spot in our lives that we need everyday. He loves to be outside, loves to run and most importantly loves to be loved. His laugh is infectious and we are so thankful for his uniqueness.

Reese may view the world a little bit differently than we do but that’s what makes him so special. We are still learning together and understand that this is just the start of our long journey. But I believe with love, laughter and positivity you can make the best out of any situation.

So I please ask that if you were like Kindsey and I (uneducated on Autism) to look into it and do some research just to understand what the diagnosis means and what it is. It is literally life changing and in a good way.

Thank you for all the love and support from everyone. We love you all! 💚🧩
