Mentoring new grads in surgery brings me so much joy!!!

I was invited to mentor these young doctors in GP, Emergency care and surgery at Hillside Veterinary Clinic for 8 weeks and it was a fun and very humbling experience. In just a few weeks I’ve watched my mentees transform into more confident and skilled professionals as they welcomed challenging caseloads and persevered. As time went on, they relied more on their new skills in veterinary medicine and customer service and I am confident that our shared experiences will take them far. This was just the beginning for these doctors, and I am confident that I will see them do great things for their patients and their clients.

To say that it was an honor to be their mentor would be an understatement. The affection and trust they returned tenfold over is my biggest personal reward. This is one of those things I am passionate about as a doctor and I am excited to mentor more doctors for years to come.

Today is our final day together and I could not be more honored to be a part of this amazing journey.

Today we performed a record number of procedures. We continue to grow and find new ways to accommodate more surgical cases. Today we had two doctors provide surgical care to a hospital. This board is only a portion of the cases completed. We were able to accommodate two walk ins that needed laceration repairs. Had we not been available, these cases would have been referred out to an emergency hospital. Unnecessary referrals to the ER double the cost for clients, and animals often spend hours waiting for surgical care if they are stable. And this only adds pressure to emergency hospitals that are already understaffed and overwhelmed with high case volumes. By utilizing our service, the customer saved money, the primary provider remained in control of the case and had happy owners because they didn’t have to refer out, and the hospital profited from having more surgeries. These babies get to go home before dinner time and can recover with their families. Everyone wins when Rogers Veterinary Services partners with your hospital!!!!

We are seeing a high number of venomous snakebites this fall. This is a blood smear that shows toxic changes that occur to the blood after a snakebite. Please watch out for snakes this spooky season! Unfortunately this is a costly condition to treat. The average cost for a single vial of antivenin is $600. Time is of the essence if your pet is bitten. The antivenin should be given within just a few hours of the bite for it to be effective.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of working with my colleagues at CityVet at Las Colinas. I performed an to remove an ovarian remnant. They are most commonly found near the caudal pole of the right , as was the case in this patient.

I love helping near and far with their surgical needs. I also love teaching these should your have interest. Our partnership expedites access to care and reduces the need for a referral.

I loved meeting this kitty. She reminded me of my Persian cat Violet a lot. I helped treat her ocular discharge and skin infection, and made her owner very happy with my services while bonding over our shared love of our furry babies.
