Moe trying to negotiate “place” terms as he feels they are quite unfair! Moe can be a chill dude on his terms (affection is his kryptonite) but while he is here he is learning to chill when being asked. This will help him in life so that he can be calm inside the home and be able to experience more outside the home.

This is Yudy, she is practicing having a muzzle on even when it’s not needed as she has conflict when wearing the muzzle. Muzzling your dog does not always mean that it is aggressive and a bite risk. Some dogs struggle with grabbing things they aren’t supposed to, which is not always a bad thing as this is one way they discover the world. However some dogs pick up things and eat them like rocks, ci******es on ground, and even p**p so having a muzzle can help prevent these naughty behaviors from occurring. So next time you see a muzzled dog it could be just a lovable fur ball.

Repost from Wild at Heart Canine Academy
🏡Re-home Help🏡

Ethyl trained with us about a year ago, and due to some household/lifestyle changes, we are helping her look for a new home!

“Ethyl is a 5 year old Blue Heeler, and is true to breed standard for personality and drive. She LOVES to play fetch, go hiking, roll around in grass, and be very active! She’s is not independent and prefers to be near her humans and doesn’t wander off. She goes in her crate nicely for bedtime or structured time during the day, and knows the commands heel, sit, down, place, and here! She is very smart and loves to work, she learns tricks and commands very fast and would thrive best with someone who can give her plenty of mental and physical stimulation daily through exercise and obedience! She is not destructive in the home. She can be very reactive to doorbells or knocking if not managed. She is social with appropriate dogs but may do better in an only dog home. When given mental jobs and kept up with training, ethyl really thrives, and she has been to dog friendly stores, dog friendly patios/breweries and walks around neighborhoods!”

As a working breed, ethyl would do great with a structured home that is able to give her plenty of mental and physical exercise, and preferably knowledgeable with herding breeds. Ethyl would go to her new home with her foods, place bed, ecollar and prong collar/leash, toys, 20-foot leash, and a treat & train remote feeder. We (WAHCA) will also provide two private lessons to teach her new owner all her commands and help integration into the new home!

Please call/text for more information and share this post!

Some dogs like Blu struggle with kennels. Kennels should be a fun place where your dog can go to be safe, comfortable, and calm. Blu struggles with having an off switch, which is where the kennel training helps. Today we worked on the kennel being associated with positive things and not just a place were you are thrown in for long periods of time. This is not done over night and will take time, but it will greatly benefit Blu.

Serious Post Alert:

If you are struggling with behaviors at home and seek out a dog trainer to help you, remember that it is hard work for both the trainer AND you in order to make progress no matter what kind of program you choose!

If you choose private lessons, you are only meeting with the trainer for an hour about once a week or so. The trainers job is to communicate and guide you into lifestyle changes and handling that start rebuilding your relationship and management. However most of the training falls on your shoulders. Asking questions, setting aside time to practice, and making small changes throughout the day- this is where progress happens!

If you choose a board and train, you’ve been given some homework to start before they even drop off for training. This is important to help make your pup settle in faster, be less stressed, and make more progress while with us! Our job is to get as much done with your pup as we can while we have them: leash and ecollar training, building behavior foundations, proofing, proper socialization, field trips, physical handling, and much more! By the end of the program the dog knows what to do! The next important job is for the owner to learn HOW to do the things the dog now knows. They’ve learned a lot, the handling of the leash and ecollar is new and awkward, timing is clunky- it’s imperative that you use the lessons that come with the program to learn all these new things and begin implementing immediate changes for when the pup goes home!

No matter which training you choose, you can’t expect to have the same handling and lifestyle as before, without your dog reverting back to its old behaviors. By adding certain changes to your daily routine, how you communicate with your pup, which circumstances you allow to happen, and how much management you have to add, only then will you see different results than before.

Please remember that your trainer WANTS you to succeed! We love dogs and we want our clients to enjoy their pups to the fullest but we can only do so much without the owner meeting us halfway!
