Informational Wednesday: Why Do Dogs Kick After They P**p? đŸŸ

It may look silly, but this quirky move has a purpose!

The Science Behind the Kick: When dogs scratch the ground after pooping, they’re not trying to cover it up—they’re spreading their scent. Dogs have scent glands in their paw pads, and this action leaves both a visual mark (scratches) and a chemical one (pheromones).

It’s a way of marking territory and communicating to other dogs: “This spot is taken!”

This behavior is perfectly natural and rooted in canine instinct and communication—no cause for concern, just your dog being a dog!

Fun Fact Friday: Seahorses Redefine Parenthood in the Deep!

In a surprising twist of nature, it’s the male seahorse who carries the babies. The female deposits her eggs into his pouch, where he fertilizes and nurtures them until giving birth—sometimes to hundreds of tiny seahorses at once!

Seahorses are also incredibly romantic. Many species are monogamous and greet each other each morning with an elegant dance, curling tails and spinning together in the water.

Loyal, graceful, and full of surprises—seahorses prove that love and parenting can come in the most unexpected forms.

Informational Wednesday: Shedding Light on Cat Zoomies! 🐈

Ever catch your cat racing through the house like it’s being chased by ghosts? Don’t worry—it’s just the zoomies!

What Are Zoomies?
Zoomies are sudden bursts of energy, often happening at dawn or dusk (aka “cat crazy o’clock”). These are instinctual behaviors rooted in a cat’s wild ancestry—times when they would have hunted or needed to escape predators.

Why It Happens: Indoor cats don’t always get enough stimulation, so those zoomies help them release pent-up energy. It’s their way of saying: “I’ve got energy to burn!”

What You Can Do: Make sure your kitty has plenty of toys, regular playtime, and enrichment (like cat trees or puzzle feeders). This helps keep zoomies fun—and not destructive.

Zoomies are completely normal
just watch your toes when they’re in full sprint mode! đŸŸ

Today, we celebrate and honor the life of Moose—a precious ferret who brought so much joy and love to everyone around him. He had a special love for his shark tunnel and equally enjoyed playing with his big brother—both brought him endless happiness. Nothing made him more content than a warm bowl of soupies—duck soup was his favorite treat. When it came to his favorite things to do, Moose especially loved playfully biting toes to get your attention and snuggling up for long cuddles. He found joy in both the silly and the sweet, and that’s exactly how we’ll remember him. Moose, you’ll always be loved, always remembered, and forever missed. 💛

Fun Fact Friday: The Tardigrade—Survivor of the Impossible!

Also known as “water bears,” tardigrades are microscopic creatures built for survival.
They can withstand freezing, boiling, crushing pressure, radiation, and even the vacuum of space. When conditions get tough, they enter a state called cryptobiosis—basically hitting pause on life—until things improve.

They’ve been found in volcanoes, glaciers, deep oceans, and even on the Moon’s surface (yep, really). Tiny, tough, and practically immortal—tardigrades are nature’s ultimate survivors.

Squishy, and nearly indestructible— They are basically the tanks of the microscopic world!

Informational Wednesday: Why Do Dogs Eat Grass? 🌿

Ever catch your dog munching on the lawn and wonder why? You’re not alone!

Possible Reasons:
Digestive Aid: Some dogs eat grass to help induce vomiting or soothe a mild upset stomach.
Natural Instinct: Wild canines often eat plants—your dog may just be following ancestral behavior.
Boredom or Curiosity: Dogs explore with their mouths, and grass might just be something interesting.
Nutritional Gaps: In rare cases, it can indicate a need for more fiber or greens in their diet.

Occasional grazing is usually harmless—but if your dog eats large amounts or throws up frequently, it’s time to consult your vet. Let’s keep those pups healthy and curious—in all the right ways! đŸ¶đŸ’š

Fun Fact Friday: Froghoppers Are the World’s Best Jumpers!

Move over kangaroos—froghoppers (also known as spittlebugs) are the real jump champs of the animal world.

These tiny insects can catapult themselves more than 100 times their body length—that’s like a human leaping over a 60-story building in a single bound!

Before they become adults, they create a bubbly foam (yes, it looks like spit) to hide in. This frothy shelter keeps them cool, moist, and hidden from predators.

Some shedding is natural, but how do you know when it’s too much?

Normal Shedding:
-Light fur on clothes or bedding
-More noticeable during spring/fall

When to Worry:
-Bald spots or irritated skin
-Constant scratching or licking
-Thinning or dull coat

Common Causes: Allergies, stress, parasites, or diet issues

A little fuzz is expected—but if your pet’s turning your couch into a fur coat, it might be time for a vet check!

Fun Fact Friday: Sea Otters Hold Hands While Sleeping!!!

Sea otters are more than just adorable—they’re also incredibly clever and caring.
They hold hands while floating on their backs so they don’t drift apart from their loved ones while sleeping.

And they use tools! Otters crack open shellfish with rocks—sometimes storing their favorite ones in little pouches under their armpits.

A fuzzy genius with a built-in toolbelt? We’re here for it!

Informational Wednesday: Cat Hairballs 101! đŸ˜Œ

Hairballs are a common (and messy) part of cat ownership—but with a little care, you can help reduce them!

Why Hairballs Happen: Cats groom themselves constantly and swallow loose fur, which can build up in their stomachs.

Reduce Hairballs With:
-Regular brushing to remove loose fur
-Hairball-control cat food
-Plenty of hydration

While occasional hairballs are normal, frequent ones may require a vet visit. Let’s keep those kitties comfy and clog-free!
