🚨🆘️‼️ TIME IS UP - EU DEADLINE ‼️🆘️🚨

NATHAN DRAKE 49428427 is 5 yrs old, 58 lbs, neutered, heartworm positive (the shelter can treat for a foster or adopter)

We have held on to this guy for as long as we can in hopes that SOMEONE would see more than the common black dog. That someone would notice his unique, silver fairy sparkles that cover his face and lighty touch his body coat - or be curious about the gentleness he shows when they walk past his kennel.

No one has though.

And now, 185 days later, his time has almost ran out. He has until Sunday. This Sunday. Three days. 72 hours.

Nate-Nate is:
🟢 Submissive
🟢 Dog Friendly
🟢 Good on Leash
🟢 Kennel Trained
🟢 Medium Energy
🟢 House trained

He can be a bit shy around new people but has never shown any kind of fear aggression.

He does have a bite on him, but the case notes aren't clear on which of the numerous dogs involved was actually the bite dog. Judging by his demeanor with us - it's hard to believe it was him.

Times are hard right now. We are out of space and out of time. Tough, hard decisions are having to be made and in Nathan Drakes case - continually being over looked is now his downfall.

But you can help! You can save this shelter favorite!

Please, do not wait to meet this shy, sweet boy. Visit him between 12-6pm at our North Animal Campus!

In foster care

🚨🚨LAST CALL needs to be tagged for adoption, rescue or foster no later than 3 pm, Thur May 7🚨🚨

“kennel neurosis and shes actively seeking to get out of kennel to get towards other dogs” tech tried to put her in a group but she jumped on a dog 🤦🏼‍♀️

She could very well not be dog friendly, but we want to have hope for her. She’s young, tiny and looks like she lived in a small kennel 😞

When I had her out this day, she ran up to this large dog in his kennel (he acts bad too and was looking at her) he hit his water pail and splashed her, and she was like 😳 and we went out. When we came back in the same way, she walked right on by him!

Reba 49811643 is 1 yr old, 30 lbs, unaltered, heartworm negative

Look 💞 sweet baby is so thin and her back/legs are hunched

This is the face of a dog lost in a system. Surrendered on 7/19/21 for “escapes” He was at south where I took him out many times and visited even more. He was a happy older guy that was no trouble.

He was sent to the new north shelter on 11/16. Fast forward to 5/4 and he’s STILL waiting and now he’s going to be euthanized.

I’m suddenly finding out “During the retest he was not able to be safely within reasonable proximity of other dogs (lunging, growling, hackles raised). When he is in play yards he is barrier reactive, and will instigate altercations.

He hasn’t been able to be safely examined for medical issues like hair loss”

This is not the “fault” of any one person. It’s this whole system. Did we fail him by just keeping him in a hamster wheel and expecting him to not change?

We can do better.

——————————————————————-

5/3 🚨 CODE RED in immediate danger of being euthanized🚨 “Conspecific aggression - cannot be placed in reasonable proximity of another animal (leash walked, play yards, etc.). Unable to safely redirect from animal aggression.”

He was surrendered on 7/19/21 for escapes. He was at Silcox and sent to the new shelter on 11/16 and has just been stuck there 😭

When I don’t see them, I forget! I took him out several times at south and he was never aggressive 😖

Someone needs to adopt this boy!! I really like him and would love for him to get out!! We hold hands while he gives me googly eyes 😆

Oso 48256440 is a 9 yr old male, 89 lbs, neutered, heartworm negative

Surrendered 7/19 “escapes” He’s so happy for attention. 💙 He’s sweet and a little goofy. He is a big boy and can be a little pushy at first but he calmed down with my mom “ehh ehh” (not sure how to spell that mom scold 😆)

I doubt he’s been dog tested but he didn’t react to any we saw.

Texas will “break the chains” in changing how dogs are protected for being improperly restrained and neglected on January 18, 2022!

This past October 2021, the Texas Legislator passed SB 5 – the Safe Outdoor Dogs Act – to protect unattended dogs retrained outdoors.

The Safe Outdoor Dogs Act does not prevent owners from tethering dogs. This law requires that unattended dogs are tethered in a way that keeps them and the people around them safe. The newly signed Safe Outdoor Dogs Act is a law eight years in the making—ACS has long championed getting this law passed at a state level.

-The law will prohibit the use of chains to tether dogs.

-Sufficient shelter, shade, and clean water will be required for any dog left outside.

-Dogs outdoor will be allowed to be tethered with a properly fitted collar attached to restraint at least 10 feet long.

Pet owners in violation can obtain a Class C Misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $500. Repeat violators of the law can now face a Class B misdemeanor which comes with a penalty of up to $2000 and/or up-to 180 days in the County jail.

This new law will go into effect on January 18, 20222

This week the temps will be dropping again and staying that way for several nights. We need your help again to keep dogs from having to stay in the outside kennels! Short term fosters are greatly needed and appreciated!

Our shelter partner Fort Worth Abandoned Animal Alliance’s President posted this plea. Please help

I sit here hearing the wind whip into my house. Know it’s getting colder out, and also know there are so many dogs at FWACC that are in outdoor kennels that will likely be there as the temps gradually fall into the day tomorrow. While we are all in our warm cozy homes. Or warm cars. Or warm extra curricular places. Enjoying ourselves. While seniors are outside. Freezing.

Knowing you want to help and can’t because foster homes aren’t stepping up is excruciating. It’s so overwhelming and yet, can’t do anything as a nonprofit organization until people stop being self centered. Self centered in getting rid of their pets. Self centered in not fostering because they can’t be bothered to take a little time out of their day for another living creature.

At the very least, please just go pick up a shelter dog for a few days while it’s feeezing out. You can take them back in a few days as a shelter foster. All humans have the ability to help, in some way. What excuse will you use to justify not helping another living creature? One that can’t decide for themself what they want. Because their family no longer wants them. Because they took up too much of someone’s time. Because they got old.

FWACC locations open at noon tomorrow, here are the addresses:

North shelter
351 Hillshire drive
Haslet, Texas 76052

South shelter
4900 Martin street
Fort Worth Texas 76119

Several rescues will also help including Fort Worth Abandoned Animal Alliance. If you can foster on a longer basis than a few days contact a loca rescue to help change an animals life.

Other rescues who can help please post your foster link in comments.

Not all treats are good!
11/09/2021

Not all treats are good!

Just a little warning regarding the Xmas treat many stores are now starting to stock for dogs at xmas.

Many of these so called treats end up with the dog "enjoying" some time in a veterinary surgery over Christmas.

The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China.

The chews are made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell.
Now comes the pretty festive colours and the glue to form cute shapes.
On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde.

If that wasn't bad enough, they regularly cause intestinal blockages, poisoning from chemical residue and choking.
The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog.

Leave them in the shop where they belong or if some well meaning person buys them for your dog put them safely away for later, then dispatch in the bin!

Please be safe with your dogs!
