Redwood Coast K9 Academy Redwood Coast K9 Academy is offering fun, positive dog training experiences by Janna Campillo. Held at the Multi Generational Center in Fortuna.

Training is offered by Janna Campillo a former Veterinary Technician and experienced Dog Trainer. Individual training and group classes offered so anyone in need of training will find just what their dog needs. Janna provides her clients with a fun, active training environment where dog and owner learn through positive reinforcement. Or if you prefer training in your own home she will travel anywh

ere in the Humboldt County area. Experiences range from Puppy training, AKC certification of STAR, CGC, CGCA and therapy dog title. Clicker training, aggression work and behavioral issues of all kinds. Janna specializes in working with large breed dogs and has five of her own Pitbulls. Positive training methods and problem solving is what you will find when you train with Redwood Coast K9 Academy. Description of classes offered:

PUPPY PRESCHOOL:
A five week course designed to start your puppy off on the right paw. It is to establish proper social skills and beginning training during a puppy's most formidable time. 10-20 weeks of age is ideal but will take older puppies if they are small breeds. CANINE ELEMENTARY:
A six week course designed for kindergarten graduates as a next step of training. Or suitable for any adult dog that hasn't received any formal training. Dog's and owners will learn how to better communicate through positive training experiences. Commands covered are: Sit, Down, Stay and Walking on a loose leash, Coming when called, Look, Leave it, proper socialization skills and impulse control. PUPPY KINDERGARTEN:
A six week course designed to give dog owner's all the tools necessary to create a happy, loving relationship with their canine companion. Puppies who complete this course will be eligible for the AKC STAR Puppy Certificate. Your puppy will learn: Sit, Down, intro to Stay and Walking on a loose leash, Coming when called, Look, Leave it, proper socialization skills and impulse control. Held in the The Multi Generational Center with some training done outdoors as well. FIT & FOCUS:
A six week hiking class designed to motivate owner and dog to get in better shape, socialize and explore new places in Humboldt County. This class helps dogs overcome aggression as well with the use of dog backpacks. The weight in the packs helps calm and center dogs as they hike in a large pack. This class changes people and their dogs for the better! Individual training is offered anywhere in the Humboldt area from Garberville to McKinleyville

Congratulations K9 Elementary students! This incredible crew wasn’t much smaller than Kindergarten and boy were they a lot easier to work with. Age makes a difference and the Academy takes that into account. I focus on age and ability based on their capacity to take all that knowledge in. This was a very unique group though. Most were new to training and many adopted from shelters not too long ago. After the chaos of Kindergarten these pups were so chill and focused and ready to 🧽 in the knowledge. Every single dog and human in this room has a story to tell. I’ve been blessed with a job that allows me to get to know them pretty well. You guys kicked some serious ass during our time together and I’m so very proud 🥹 Keep up all that you have learned and please come back to Learn more soon❤️

EPIC is an understatement 👏 This is the biggest class I’ve ever conducted and it was incredible. These die hard students and their dogs stuck it out thru thick and thin and learned so much. I absolutely enjoy a big crowd, especially when dogs are involved. I do realize this is a stressful situation for many dog owners though too. I gave them the pep talk and the “Don’t give up” mentality week 1 and they did NOT disappoint this trainer. I will settle into my time off for the first time with a full heart and a tired mind and body. I can’t wait to kick off the New Year with what I hope to be the largest gathering of dogs we can collect! Stay tuned and Happy Holidays 🎅💯❤️👏🌖 🐕

STOP making excuses for not training your dog. START taking the time to walk your dog regularly. I promise that alone will bring positive results. And the Academy is offering a Holiday Night walk this Friday in ferndale that can jump start your motivation. New Years Day social and walk at Rohner Park at 11am. Lastly check the website Calendar for classes in January for all ages and stages of learning

The final Preschool graduates of 2024 🥹 wow what a crazy year! You amazing people and your dogs keep this heart afloat and absolutely loving my job each and every single day ❤️ I am so excited for the New Years Day social at Rohner park!! I hope to see all of my students old and new along with their well behaved buddies for this free social session to set off the New year! Congrats you guys you are wonderful dog people 💯

This beautiful little lady has gray spackled across her muzzle but she’s still willing to learn. Xena worked with me almost ten years ago! F**k I feel old 😂 but that’s ok. The pay off is seeing this amazing dog able to retain and respond to every foundational cue I taught her almost ten years ago. Absolutely Beautiful and solidifies my life’s work honestly. Thank you to her momma for requesting a refresher and knowing that her own life has changed her dogs focus. Come 2025 I think we will see Sweet Xena working hard on her skills In the classroom 👏

The first phase of AKC Canine Good Citizen testing is complete! 3 of 5 passed and everyone did an absolutely fantastic job guiding their dog through each challenge. I’m so very proud of each of you 🥹 I hope you feel that and know your trainer is impressed. The two dogs who almost passed only missed one of ten test items and I hope to see them back to challenge again soon! Tonight we work with the next five pups and I’m sure I’ll be as impressed as I was this morning. 👏 congrats to you for all your hard work and dedication to your dog being seen in such profound ways today.

This comical fella is Ziggy! He started his training journey with me and his mom yesterday. He had some early trauma from an older dog attacking him. He’s kind of slowly progressed with some leash reactivity and other odd behaviors since. It’s a long story but that’s part of my initial assessment of a dog that needs some help. Detective 🕵️ work I call it and that’s me digging for details so I can best adjust the training approach. Every dog just like us humans is unique and this guy is big on praise and freedom for rewards. Poodles are kind of known for being picky so my usual goodies were not that impressive. Variable reinforcement is a fancy term for find multiple ways to reward for good behavior. Ziggy did so well his mom was walking along right next to Daisy and I at the end of the session. I’m hoping to see him in K9 Elementary come January!

Being a teacher is unique. Comes with its Ups and Downs for sure. K9 College is the epitome of the work I’ve dedicated for almost two decades. Let’s just say I was ridiculously proud and happy throughout this course. The group totally kicked ass this past six weeks. I told them I was sad to let them go. Dedicated people who see their dogs worth and take responsibility for being the one that can show them the way. I can’t wait to see how many of these College graduates pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen test just after 🦃 day ❤️💯👏🇺🇸💥

An incredible performance by the latest Preschoolers last night in their final class 👏 This was such a fun and flexible group of people and pups. They went with the flow thru the election season when I lose my classroom for two weeks. We were so grateful for the for allowing us to use their beautiful space last night. Lots of memories of the Covid days came back to me when I entered that room. Tonight K9 College will be training here too but tomorrow I’ll be back at home base for two new classes. Puppy Preschool will start again on Tuesday November 19th at 6pm and will be the final class of 2024 so get your puppy signed up! 🐾 💯👏❤️

Nailed it! Puppy Kindergarten graduated with flying colors this evening 👏 🐕 Sure there are lots of bumps along the road through adolescence but this group stuck it out. Most of the pups also earned their STAR Puppy certification as well. I’ll see you kids in Elementary and let’s bring on a new group of pups for the winter session November 6th at 6pm

And Congratulations to all of you 🥹💯❤️🎉 This was a fun and dynamic group! Preschool has this way of unlocking the most important potential in both dog and human. These guys did it 👏 I’m sad to let them go so soon but it’s time for new students. BUT I’m on vacation 😁 See you all on the flip side of my epic trip to Vegas!

This beauty is Mira. Poor girl has been passed around quite a bit before earlier this year when she got swooped up. She was and her mom a volunteer decided to take her in. She’s developed some Pyrenees specific traits that just don’t fit into her moms mellow life. However with a little coaching from myself and a way to channel that anxiety and stubbornness this girl is going to be very capable. She learned quick today that I wasn’t a push over and that I was also in charge. She felt like she could step down and follow my lead. She did fantastic for her first session! Rescue dogs are just dogs with a bit of baggage that needs to be packed up and hauled off their back. Mira I look forward to our next session 🐾❤️

I want to share and warn everyone it’s time to stop taking the dogs to the river! It’s not worth the risk, your dog will be dead before you can even get them to the Vet. Start going to the beach! Snowy Plover season is over on Sept 15th I believe and you can let dogs off leash out there again.

The crew inadvertently received an extended summer vacation due to this trainer’s sickness for the past week. All existing classes will resume next week! And I have two amazing new ones starting. Puppy Kindergarten is held once weekly at the Fortuna Veterans Memorial Building at its new time 6pm! This starts Wednesday September 4th. K9 Elementary HIKE, my favorite class starts on Thursday September 5th starting 6pm. The first trail we will explore is at Rohner Park in Fortuna. Go to my website to check out the calendar, descriptions of courses and to get enrolled before all the spots are taken!

The newest members of the Academy 🥹 so many adorable little stinkers in this group! And this is THE last series of 2024 but check the website because I’ll be kicking off 2025 with classes for everyone.

A bunch of wonderful students came out to support my business on Small Business Saturday! We had a fantastic time in Ferndale working on leash manners and exposure to the outside world. They did a great job 👏 🐾 ❤️

They are the best of the best tonight 💯❤️

A little glimpse of where you and your dog can be if you put in the effort. Whether it’s a dog raised from adolescence or a rescue dog etc they can all benefit from group dog classes in tremendous ways. This College level crew freaking killed it tonight! I brought out technical games and exercises I hadn’t used in years. That is because this group has a flow that as a teacher you know is unique. Can’t wait to see them challenge graduation and the AKC Canine Good Citizen test after that. Thank you to the @vanduzengrange for accommodating the Academy this past week so we can stay on task while our normal space is used for the election. Tomorrow it’s back to home base and starting not one but two new classes chalk full of amazing dogs #wishmeluck

Preschool is my favorite part of being a teacher to dogs 🥰 I can actually help both dog and human in the most impactful way at this stage in their age and in the bond between them as it’s forming. Love my job & definitely the puppies of preschool 🤓 🐕

Yesterday was National Son day apparently and I barely made it home in time. Levi is my son even if he’s a dog. My boy kitties too. Everyone was beyond excited to see me last night. We melted into the bed for about 12 hours of recovery. Had an amazing time in Vegas and loved every minute. Leaving town gives one perspective, appreciation and a sense of belonging both at their home and in a new location. I loved meeting new people everywhere I went and exploring new places. Recovery day Sunday is in effect! Be patient folks I will be 💯 here soon. #redwoodcoastk9

The K9 Elementary HIKE class went to Table Bluff beach tonight for some freedom from Heel and some How To’s on longline work. And Miss Mabel my Board & Train pup was a perfect lady as my side kick. #redwoodcoastk9 #humboldt #tablebluff

Grizz, Suki, Diesel, Kali, Dillon, Ellie, Penny and Rio! All these beautiful pups have improved so much over the past month so I wanted to give them a big 👏 Graduation is next week and they all will move on and up their way through the Academy.
