Training is offered by Janna Campillo a former Veterinary Technician and experienced Dog Trainer. Individual training and group classes offered so anyone in need of training will find just what their dog needs. Janna provides her clients with a fun, active training environment where dog and owner learn through positive reinforcement. Or if you prefer training in your own home she will travel anywh

ere in the Humboldt County area. Experiences range from Puppy training, AKC certification of STAR, CGC, CGCA and therapy dog title. Clicker training, aggression work and behavioral issues of all kinds. Janna specializes in working with large breed dogs and has five of her own Pitbulls. Positive training methods and problem solving is what you will find when you train with Redwood Coast K9 Academy. Description of classes offered:

PUPPY PRESCHOOL:
A five week course designed to start your puppy off on the right paw. It is to establish proper social skills and beginning training during a puppy's most formidable time. 10-20 weeks of age is ideal but will take older puppies if they are small breeds. CANINE ELEMENTARY:
A six week course designed for kindergarten graduates as a next step of training. Or suitable for any adult dog that hasn't received any formal training. Dog's and owners will learn how to better communicate through positive training experiences. Commands covered are: Sit, Down, Stay and Walking on a loose leash, Coming when called, Look, Leave it, proper socialization skills and impulse control. PUPPY KINDERGARTEN:
A six week course designed to give dog owner's all the tools necessary to create a happy, loving relationship with their canine companion. Puppies who complete this course will be eligible for the AKC STAR Puppy Certificate. Your puppy will learn: Sit, Down, intro to Stay and Walking on a loose leash, Coming when called, Look, Leave it, proper socialization skills and impulse control. Held in the The Multi Generational Center with some training done outdoors as well. FIT & FOCUS:
A six week hiking class designed to motivate owner and dog to get in better shape, socialize and explore new places in Humboldt County. This class helps dogs overcome aggression as well with the use of dog backpacks. The weight in the packs helps calm and center dogs as they hike in a large pack. This class changes people and their dogs for the better! Individual training is offered anywhere in the Humboldt area from Garberville to McKinleyville

This beauty is Mira. Poor girl has been passed around quite a bit before earlier this year when she got swooped up. She was and her mom a volunteer decided to take her in. She’s developed some Pyrenees specific traits that just don’t fit into her moms mellow life. However with a little coaching from myself and a way to channel that anxiety and stubbornness this girl is going to be very capable. She learned quick today that I wasn’t a push over and that I was also in charge. She felt like she could step down and follow my lead. She did fantastic for her first session! Rescue dogs are just dogs with a bit of baggage that needs to be packed up and hauled off their back. Mira I look forward to our next session 🐾❤️

I want to share and warn everyone it’s time to stop taking the dogs to the river! It’s not worth the risk, your dog will be dead before you can even get them to the Vet. Start going to the beach! Snowy Plover season is over on Sept 15th I believe and you can let dogs off leash out there again.

The crew inadvertently received an extended summer vacation due to this trainer’s sickness for the past week. All existing classes will resume next week! And I have two amazing new ones starting. Puppy Kindergarten is held once weekly at the Fortuna Veterans Memorial Building at its new time 6pm! This starts Wednesday September 4th. K9 Elementary HIKE, my favorite class starts on Thursday September 5th starting 6pm. The first trail we will explore is at Rohner Park in Fortuna. This amazing group graduated Kindergarten last night 👏 All the puppies made big strides in their journey the past six weeks. I think you all have improved so much and it has been such a pleasure working with you all. There were so many rescue dogs in this class too which made me very happy! Keep up the good work everyone and I hope to see you back for further education and adventures soon.

Little Obie did so well in his lesson this week! No aggressive outbursts and even took to Rose quite fast. He has improved so much in the past month we pushed him up and into group classes. You’ll see his little adorable face in my story today in K9 Fundamentals

Happy 5th Birthday to my sweet amazing boy Levi! Dogs are incredible creatures. They love us no matter what, through thick and thin and for as long as we let them. We’ve been together through some serious life changes these past five years little man and I am grateful for your love ❤️🐾💯

This handsome fella is Tucker. His deep brown eyes say so much to me without a word. His parents adopted him a few months ago from a challenging situation. A lot of the scars on his body and in his heart are a mystery and we will never know but we can help him move forward ❤️ Rescue dogs are complex creatures. I’m so pleased they chose one of my new training bundles to make sure we really help him recover properly. Meet Milo! A new member of the Academy. His mom and I consulted today and took Milo on a long walk after to implement the things we know he needs. Milo was rescued off the streets in 2019 and his people found his owner but she didn’t want him back. He’s a mix of several breeds but you can see the husky and Samoyed for sure. Things went amazingly well today and Milo was receptive to taking a step down and listening to his mom and being respectful. And another dog who’s ditched the pinch collar! He’s much more manageable for his owner to handle with her handling his forefront. He’s in it for the long haul hopefully so stay tuned for updates on Mr Milo ❤️🐾

Bone broth, total success! Even got the gelatin like substance you are always aiming for. Why incorporate it into your diet? It has tons of nutrients and benefits for your body and especially your GI tract. The ‘Biome’ is the new cliche word 😂 however this concept has been around for centuries. They say your stomach is your second brain so why not make sure it is properly cared for ❤️Thank you for sharing your amazing resources, I will be getting more! Hard to see every single dog in this picture so click on my story for more! But this group is doing so well so far. In week four they strolled along the Eureka Waterfront trail like champs. Bikes, walkers, tweakers 😅 and hiking huskies all crossed our path. They were hardly phased and if they were their owners were taught by me what to do. Whatever it takes to stay calm and guide their dog down the right path to being their best self. They say dog is man’s best friend and they truly can be when you invest in showing them the way ❤️💯🐾

Meet Sitka! This handsome guy started his journey to being a better man today. His mom has simple, straightforward goals. A better recall and leash manners. When we started to discuss his life and training experience turns out he had a traumatic experience at the dog park about a year ago. Many of you know that I’m not a big fan of dog parks. The design of it all with lack of rules and regulations can possibly lead to negative experiences like Sitka here had. Since then he has become more leash reactive, making their daily walks together stressful and unfun. We have a good plan involving counter conditioning with praise, treats and toys. And ditching the pinch collar will help too. I gave him and mom a lot of homework and we have a great training plan laid out. This reminds me to mention I will soon have training bundles available on the website! I want to offer you all plans for success and dedicate my time to those who are willing to invest in their dog for the long run. Obie looking pretty relaxed and somewhat proud after his second session. He has a genuine mistrust in other dogs so the objective was trust building. We also focused on teaching his parents how to properly deal with his outbursts while on walks. Leash reactivity is generally a big facade where the dog relies on the owner to bail them out of an uncomfortable situation by pulling back or picking them up. My boy Levi was there to show this little fella that there are trusting dogs out there. Ones he can even make friends with 🥹 Proud of Obie and family for such a rewarding training session. This Epic, amazing group 🥰 makes me so happy as a teacher. It’s only their third week and they did a great job tonight in Ferndale. Every student has been apart of the Academy in one way or another prior to this class so I knew it would be a positive experience. I’m looking forward to the next few weeks with you all. Step one was thaw, step two is roast! Rub with oil and toss on some salt, 425 degrees for 30 minutes then flip and repeat! You can add veggies to the pan if you like that kind of flavor in your broth. I personally just like the beef and salt flavor. Next they will go in the slow cooker alllll day. Monday set off @fortunarodeo week with the chili cook off. Myself and my clients found this to be a very good and challenging training excursion. Rose was fine aside from being humiliated by her tiny adorable hat.

Tonight I tested six dogs and these two came out on top! Everyone did an incredible job working through the 10 test items the AKC insists a well behaved dog should perform. The other four were close and will soon be prepared to test again. Boudicca and Waffles did a wonderful job with the help of their moms. Scotia School Dog Bite Prevention assembly this morning with Rose! It’ll be on the news this evening. Lots of valuable information both kids and their parents should know 🐾 🙌 ❤️ #dogbitepreventionmonth #redwoodcoastk9 #humboldt

It’s National Dog Bite Prevention Month! Rose and I are visiting the local schools throughout May to help kids learn valuable skills and stay safe over the summer. We talked about the Do’s and Dont’s with dogs at home and stray dogs. And practiced how to properly ask both owner and dog before reaching out to pet. Dogs don’t like hugs or being startled while sleeping. If you are being chased while on your bike don’t try and go faster. Stop and ‘Stand like a tree’ be boring and calm and don’t make eye contact for long periods of time. Also no running, screaming or waving your arms around because that only makes things worse. #redwoodcoastk9 #dogbiteprevention #ambrosinifortuna

Gray thought for sure she had this Tug Of War thing in the bag. Little Levi proved her wrong while Koa just sat by and watched the show. My three dogs have shown incredible maturity and kindness in a number of ways since I started this Board & Train program. Dogs are one of the greatest gifts to us humans. They can also be one of the most powerful creatures to teach us lessons and also break our hearts. Today I had a few amazing people reach out to me for guidance. Including elderly care and aggressive outbursts and just the everyday puppy challenges like Koa here faces. I love and appreciate helping you through these life stages and I know you repay the favor in so many ways. These personal moments stay between us but I want you all to know I’m here when you need me. Dogs are a gift but also a hardship. They don’t always fit right into our lives like we would like.
