My wild child, RLR Cinder๐ its time for some serious training for her but it will have to wait until after lambing.
Alittle work for Ice today. Excuse the slip and slide! One downside to the warm weather we had a couple weeks ago was everything became ice. The little bit of snow ontop just makes it even more slick.
Im really having fun working this girl! I havnt gotten to put as much consistent time on her as I would have liked but she always picks up right where we left off. She's really fun to handle and has a good feel for sheep. With the training sheep gone, I'm just using the first handful of sheep that run out of the gate and Ice has done really well adjusting to some lighter sheep. I'm happy with how her flanks are coming and she's picking up on commands quickly. I just wish the footing was alittle better for both her and the sheep!! She's fun to train and is becoming a nice little using dog for chores too. She learns quickly and works off my pressure really well so even when she's not sure what we are doing, we are able to get things done together.
This ram headed off to his new home this week. He was a hard one to see go but there's just too many of his daughters here. In the video with him are a few of his daughters born last spring. We bred their dams back the same way so hopefully will have a nice repeat of last year's lamb crop! I can't wait for the "repeats" or what these daughters will give us bred to our young ram. Come on february!!
Cinder will take pets from anyone she can get them from! Even 5 month old Chloe ๐
Oh Ice....she respects "that'll do" but this is her way of telling me she's not happy about it and she's ready to go right back to work!๐คฆโโ๏ธ
RLR Cinder (Slash J Ash x 5H Sako)! Just starting to work with her=)
A short clip of working Ice! We are taking it easy but I'm excited to be out here working her=)
Roper certainly knows and loves his job!
Short clip of Roper! Roper was getting a bit bored with "school" so I figured I'd throw him in the deep end and see what happened. Being the cowdog that he is, he has a fondness for heeling sheep even when he doesn't need to be doing so. He's gotten a few lectures about that! It was kinda funny seeing him be so careful and holding himself back when it came to getting those 3 whethers in the shed. He may not do things as "pretty" as the border collies do but he is a solid partner!
Short clip of the tail end of working Jewel! She did so well throughout the work that I figured I'd give her a few more sheep and see how she did=) yesterday she started off with a bit of adrenaline and "look how fast I can run" before settling into her role. Understandably, since this is all new too her. Not today though! She came right out and went to work without the REALLY FAST start she had yesterday! I am loving how fast she wants to work as a team with me and how well she has already found her groove, moving sheep.
Had to give Sako a spin too ;) my husband recently told me I needed to tune her up since she blew off a down while he was using her. It's been a few years since Sako has seen a trial field. She's just been doing work here at home and i havnt kept her "tuned up ". Seems I don't really need to! My training wethers, on the other hand, clearly needed a reminder that they can be driven as well as fetched! * excuse the thistles in my training pen!*
A small snippet from some training with Roper yesterday! Roper is a year old and has had very little actual training sessions. Iv mostly only worked with him "on the job". I'm really impressed with this boy!
