Mally is coming along really nice, 5 months in training. Running simple blind retrieves, marking doubles and starting swimby next week. In 6 months of training she will be able to run water blinds and land blinds. Making her (imo) a huntable dog. This is why we do a 6 month min contract. We want them to be successful. We want them to be prepared for what a hunt has in store. And we want them to LOVE IT!

How often do you throw across the water? Throwing marks on the opposite bank will help teach dogs to keep swimming and build confidence with getting out of the water to search for downed ducks.

This can help in hunting situations where dogs may have to get out of the water to search for wounded game or crossing levy’s , ditches, etc.

Sometimes we have birds sail and concepts like getting out of the water and heading up hill on land are necessary in our training regiment! Having someone to help will make teaching this concept so much easier. Try to limit the amount of splash birds early on in training but also set it up to keep them from cheating. Let’s create good habits early by avoiding situations that can create bad!
