We are aware of the current EVH-1 outbreak out of Texas. Because of the ease of transmission, we will be closed to all visitors, including farriers, chiropractors, etc. Anyone who may come in contact with another horse is asked to not visit the rescue. While we are aware it was focused in Waco, we can't know where every visitor as been, and whether or not a horse they were around had been exposed, even indirectly. Because of this, we also ask that all donations be left at our gate, and we will take the proper precautions to thoroughly sanitize all items before introducing to our herd.

Inserting my best Sir David Attenborough voice...

Ah, here we see the elusive Silver Labrador — a curious creature known for his unremarkable intelligence, bottomless stomach, and complete disregard for personal space.

Watch closely, as he approaches his prey: the wild Halloween pumpkin. Once a common porch decoration, now discarded after the migration of trick-or-treaters, it has found itself in dangerous territory.

Notice the Lab’s stealth... or at least, his attempt at it. He believes he’s invisible, despite being roughly the size of a small horse and breathing louder than a leaf blower. He sniffs, circles, and—ah, there it is—the first nibble. Magnificent.

With the finesse of a toddler eating spaghetti, he begins his feast. Seeds fly, pumpkin guts scatter, and yet, our noble beast persists. He is focused. Determined. Heroic.

Truly, nature at its finest.

🎃 Remember, don’t toss your pumpkins — donate them! Our farm animals (and apparently, our dogs too) think pumpkins are the greatest fall delicacy around.
👉 Bring your unpainted, unbleached, un-bedazzled pumpkins or gourds to Creekside Farm & Equine Rescue — they’ll go to good use feeding our pigs, goats, chickens, and other critters.

📍 Drop-offs welcome anytime at the gate.

In October of 2024, we closed intakes to focus on the arrival of our 3rd child. Recently, we'd been preparing to open those back up, since things were normalizing a bit. But what we didn't expect was that God was writing a larger story. One that would involve a Leukemia diagnosis for my husband. You see, He guides our steps before we ever move our feet. He knew what was on the horizon and had been preparing us for it for the last year. Without slowing over the last year, there's absolutely no way we could be as present and persistent with our health today. We would not have had the time to seek medical advice for what we thought was a routine issue.

During this time, please know that even though our social media is a choir of crickets, the animals here are still receiving the best of care. The need is still present even though their stories aren't being shared with the world. And please use this as a reminder - slow down, prioritize yourself, and always make sure you never leave for tomorrow what could be said today 🧡 We aren't sure what tomorrow holds for Creekside, but what we do know is that God has an even greater plan than what we could ever dream up. We'll be ok. Our days and years will look different, but we'll be ok.

Pumpkin season isn’t over — it just moved to the farm! 🎃🦃🎄

When Halloween ends and the Christmas trees come out... don’t toss those pumpkins! Our pigs, goats, and chickens at Creekside Farm love them!

We take ALL pumpkins and gourds — just keep them natural (no paint, bleach, or glitter).

Drop them off at our gate anytime, or gather them from your neighbors and message us to arrange a pickup! We'll even pick up those not-so porch-worthy beauties from your local pumpkin patch!

Let’s turn porch décor into happy farm bellies. 🐷🐔🐐

💔 The part of rescue no one sees...

Most folks love a good “before and after” — the kind that shows a skinny, scared animal turn into a healthy, happy one. We love those stories too. But right now, our rescue looks a little different.

We’re closed for new intakes. Every animal here already *found* their after.
Now it’s our job to keep that promise — to care for them, love them, and make sure they live out their days safe and content.

There may not be dramatic photos to post anymore… but the need hasn’t gone away. In truth, it’s even greater now.
Feed bills, vet visits, medicine — it all adds up. And without those flashy “before and after” moments, donations slow down.

But this — this quiet, steady love — is what rescue is really about.
If you believe in that too, we’d be so grateful for your support today. ❤️

I think it's safe to say that Boots wants everyone to know that he's out of hay! Yep - it's that time! We put the last bale in as soon as we got his chunky tail out of the ring. We have enough in our account to cover 1.5 round bales, and we need 5. The price has increased, and it's now $45/bale. We need $160 to cover the rest of the run. Due to the cost of fuel and availability of the farmer, we MUST make the most of each trip and get a full load.

Can you skip that 2nd cup of coffee and help fill Boot's hay ring? We'd NEVER ask anyone to give up their first cup!! 😁 Every penny adds up, and I know we have the best supporters out there to help fill this hay run!

(Please ignore the hay string - it's all cleaned up between each bale!)

Meet Calvin 💙 — a puppy with a story that deserves a happy ending.

Back in May, Calvin and his siblings were discovered abandoned in a crate, left behind without food, water, or comfort. They were rescued just in time, given safety, care, and the chance at the lives every puppy deserves. One by one, his brothers and sisters were adopted into loving homes… until only Calvin was left.

Now 5 months old and about 35 pounds, Calvin will likely grow to 50–60 pounds when full-grown. He’s a mixed breed with a terrier mama, but what really matters is his personality: sweet, smart, playful, and incredibly loving. He’s already fixed, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. He sleeps through the night in his crate with no accidents, is learning his house manners, and already knows a few basic commands.

Calvin loves people, kids, and other dogs. He has the happiest spirit and the gentlest heart, even after such a rough beginning. But while his siblings already have families of their own, Calvin is still waiting—waiting for the person who will choose him, love him, and make sure he never feels abandoned again.

Could you be the one to write Calvin’s happy ending? 🐾💛

I am blessed to know both Valerie and Justin. They both work tirelessly for these animals, all while Valerie battles the toughest fight of her life. But you'd never know it!!!! The world is a better place because these two are in it 💖 Second Hand Sanctuary , HUGE congrats from all of us here at Creekside Farm and Equine Rescue - no one deserves this more!!! 🥳

Valerie Bartlett comes on A|C to talk about fall teas and her animal rescue but is surprised when her husband reads a letter that touched the Surprise Squad and United Community. She's presented with a check to help her visit her kids and grandkids and make improvements at Second Hand Sanctuary.

We're mere hours away from the 1 year anniversary of Helene - the hurricane that changed the lives of nearly everyone in our area, and now we're looking at another system with likely impacts.

We're prepping the best we can and praying that there's minimal damage. We will get hay after the storm, since we have nowhere to store it. Helene destroyed our barn roof, and the funds haven't been available to make the necessary repairs. We've been barely getting by on feed and hay, so projects like that have been placed on the back burner.

As with any storm, we want to make sure our neighbors have what they need to prepare their animals. If anyone needs help before this next system hits, please let us know! If we can't help directly, we'll assist in finding someone who can!!

Praying for all in the path of this system to stay safe!!
