And so begins halter training! This girl is going to be huge (she's 3 weeks old and already the size of our miniature horses), so we need to ensure we're able to safely handle her when she's an adult.
She's also dropping in to let everyone know that we're down to our last 2 bags of grain, and last bale of hay!!! We'll be out of grain on Thursday, and will be putting the last bale of hay out tomorrow. I LOATHE asking for donations, but I also know that donations don't come in unless we ask. So, this is me *begging* for support!! Grain is $31/bag and hay is $40/bale. We have $8 in our account 😪. If you can't help financially, will you please share?? Happy 1 week gotcha day beautiful girl!!
This week, Moolissa has grown so much! She came in very sick. Within 24 hours, she began having an awful wet cough. It's not unusual for these babies to develop pneumonia when they go through auction. The conditions are unsanitary at best. We immediately started her on strong antibiotics and within a few days, her cough was gone 🙌 However, with the antibiotics came a horrible upset stomach. She already suffered from scours, so that made things much worse. Honestly, I was very guarded when she came in. She didn't want to eat, and she was nearly lethargic. Now, she's drinking 6 bottles per day, and looks forward to her daily zoomies! We are so excited to see her thrive! And she is thriving thanks to your generosity!!!

It's HOT yall! We need relief. Plastic pools, sprinklers, etc. The pigs will lay in the pools for hours. The horses will walk through the sprinklers to cool off. Luckily, we have the creek that runs through 2 of the paddocks, so those babies can stand in the shade and let the cold water run across their hooves, splash, and play, but 2 of our paddocks and the pig paddock does not have this luxury. We've added items to our Amazon wishlist, and also welcome donations in person (these can be left at our gate)! Let's help keep these sweethearts cool!

Tomorrow's a big day! It marks 6 months since we embarked on the journey to get Peaches sound. When I picked her up, she could barely walk. She was lying in the pasture, and it took a good 5 minutes just to get her to stand. Once we started towards the trailer, I nearly had to drag her. Her pain was debilitating. And that was WITH pain medication twice a day.
Tomorrow is her 6th visit with Steele Horsemanship and Farriery. Each visit is an improvement to the last. Over those 6 months, I've seen her go from having to stand on pads just to be comfortable, to trotting back to the trailer and dragging me along! She's gone from lying in the pasture unable to stand to winning classes in the local show circuit.
Many would (and did) recommend euthanasia. A horse in her mid teens - a serious skeletal injury - months and months of prayers and hard work to hopefully get her comfortable. But this is why we put in the effort. This is why I haul her 2 hours every 4 weeks for corrective shoeing. This is why I purchase expensive supplements aimed at rebuilding the body from the ground up. Peaches loves life now. She loves trailering. She loves being in shows. And she loves being doted on during her downtime. It's obvious when you see her in her element.
And because of you, she has that opportunity. Because of your generosity and support. Because you never gave up right alongside us.

The Pond B&B has its first 2 guests - Pen and Pencil! Lunch consisted of their choice of grass seed buffet or leftover fish food 🤣🤦♀️ They look happy - I'm not sure when they plan to check out 😬
They got a concert while I cut grass earlier too! They'd better not expect a special supper - ain't no room in the budget for 2 more freeloaders!!!
Little Stumpy is doing amazingly well! We've figured out what he is exactly, and why he wouldn't eat the dry duck feed that we'd offered. Turns out, this guy exclusively eats bugs!!!! He had a field day when we offered him crickets 🤣 Then he slept the night away with a full belly ♥️
Tomorrow is going to be a first for him. He gets to meet the equine dentist AND go on a road trip with us to take Peaches to the farrier! It's going to be a day full of chaos and expenses, but every animal here is worth it!
