While the weather today certainly doesn’t feel like it, spring is just around the corner! Now is the time to start getting those spring tune-ups scheduled for the horses you plan on riding (if you took the winter off) and, yes, even those mares due to foal this year. They can all benefit from a well-aligned spine and pelvis.

Just a friendly reminder that farm calls beyond 30 miles require a minimum of 4 horses in the area to be scheduled. I am willing to split farm calls for neighboring barns.

There is a scheduled trip be to the Saint Johns/Ovid area on Sunday, March 12 for chiropractic and acupuncture services. I currently have morning and afternoon farm call availability depending on the farm location.

Dr. Rachel Wright, a veterinarian practicing in Fowlerville, MI is a professional member of the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA). Dr. Wright has been a member of the AVCA for six years.

AVCA professional membership is limited to licensed doctors of chiropractic and licensed doctors of veterinary medicine who are certified in animal chiropractic by the Animal Chiropractic Certification Commission (ACCC) of the AVCA, the primary national credential for this profession in North America. These doctors have successfully completed the Animal Chiropractic Certification Commission (ACCC) of the AVCA certification requirements which included successfully passing an AVCA approved postgraduate program (a minimum of 210 hours) in animal chiropractic. Certification is distinct from licensure in that it is voluntary and requires recertification to maintain the credential. ACCC/AVCA Certified Doctors are required to obtain 30 hours of continuing education every three years to keep certification current.

The AVCA was established in 1989. Chiropractic is a drug-free approach to pet health care. It deals with the nervous system housed inside the spinal column. Due to the current fuel prices, farm calls beyond 30 miles will now require a minimum of 4 patients in the area to be scheduled. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. I still remain more than willing to split farm call costs between clients and locations within 10 miles of each other.

Haul-ins and office visits continue to be free of charge at this time.

A weekend day in the Battle Creek/Kalamazoo and St Johns areas can be coordinated with enough interested parties, though nothing is scheduled at this time. Please contact me if you would like to be placed on an appointment list for those areas.

Reflecting back on 2020, it has been a year of growth and change. I would like to voice my appreciation for all of my clients who helped to make it a very successful first year in business.

As we progress into 2021, it is time to make the announcement that Great Lakes Animal Health will be taking a short hiatus from providing equine therapies effective today until May/June.

Here's to looking forward to a new year and the changes to come!

It appears as though there may have been confusion about the online pharmacy offered by Great Lakes Animal Health. Please allow me to clear that up.

Great Lakes Animal Health has an online pharmacy (glah.vetsfirstchoice.com) for current clients to utilize as needed. Prescription products will be sent directly to my email for approval.

I will NOT approve prescription products without a valid Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship or VCPR, which involves physically examining the patient every 6 months. For tips on how to establish a VCPR with your veterinarian, please follow this link to MSU:

To reiterate my current practice restrictions, I cannot provide veterinary services or products to:
1. A travel radius of 30 miles from Hickory Corners, MI (there is a specific address that I can map to your location if you are wondering if you fall within that range)
2. Banfield Pet Hospital clientele. I am able to provide chiropractic services, but no general medicine or prescriptions will be provided for Banfield clients.
