Drawing on bisque that was fired to cone 05 (1880 degrees) before glazing and firing to cone 6 (2200 degrees)

Most people don’t know that the process of throwing, drying, firing, glazing, and firing again to achieve vitrification, so the piece is dishwasher and food safe, takes about 2-3 weeks from start to finish.

Timing is everything. The clay cannot be too wet or to dry to trim and to attach handles or other embellishments. When I commit to throw mugs, it’s the timing of when can I can attach the handles that matters to me. Throwing the mug is the easy part. Being home when the mug has dried enough, but not too much so I can make handles, leave them for a few hours to dry a little (usually while I go to the barn to ride) then attach them to mugs is the hardest part. Before I started doing ceramics, I was not aware of all the precise steps required to make one piece! It’s such a challenging art. That’s probably why I enjoy it!

Eight place setting for our dear friends is finished:)
11” plates, 9.5” plates, 8” plates and salad bowls all with scalloped rims for their new home💕 I am so honored. What a privilege to have made these for them.
