🐾 Meet Rhys, a resilient and always-smiling pup who’s ready for his forever home! 🐶

Despite an unfair start—found abandoned in a crate with his sister as young puppies and later returned when life changed for his adoptive family—Rhys remains a happy, playful pup with an amazing ability to bounce back! Thanks to his incredible foster family, Rhys left kennel life behind and has been thriving in a loving home environment. His foster family’s care is helping him blossom into the wonderful dog he is today! 🏡

Rhys is dog and kid friendly, and while he’s cat curious (might chase them!), he means no harm. 😺 He’s crate trained, knows “sit” and “no,” and learns routines quickly. This sweet guy LOVES being petted, playing with chew toys and balls, and hanging out with people and other dogs. His playful personality shines when running around or wrestling with his foster sister! 🐕 Though he can be nervous in new situations, with a little time and support, he warms up fast, showing his friendly, cuddly side.

Duke, a loyal 5-year-old German Shepherd, is still waiting for a foster home, and we’re running out of time to find him a safe place. 💔 Abandoned when his owner moved away, Duke has been cared for by family members, but he urgently needs a stable, loving environment to thrive.

This handsome boy is obedient, food-motivated, knows basic commands, and absolutely loves getting pets and even just the presence of his humans. 🥰 When we visited his home, Duke was delighted to meet us, showing off his warm, affectionate nature! However, at this time we feel Duke would do best in a home where he’s the only dog and with no small children to ensure he feels secure and comfortable. He’s had limited time away from home, so a patient, understanding foster is key to helping him adjust.

We are deeply grateful to share the heartwarming story of the recent Pasta Dinner fundraiser held in loving memory of Carli Hartwig at the Toccoluna Club in Rome.

Carli was a compassionate young woman whose immense love for animals defined her life. From a young age, she showed remarkable empathy, creating temporary shelters for strays, donating to local rescues, and tirelessly advocating for animals in need.

Organized by Carli’s mom, Sherry Dodge, and her dedicated team, the October fundraiser was a beautiful tribute to Carli’s legacy. The event was a resounding success, raising funds, collecting animal care supplies, and increasing awareness about animal welfare and adoption. It truly honored Carli’s passion for animals and her commitment to their well-being.

Rover’s Do Over is deeply honored to be among the beneficiaries, alongside other local animal rescue organizations. Thanks to the fundraiser, we received a generous $3,000 donation, which will directly support the dogs in our care. The outpouring of support in Carli’s memory was overwhelming, and her spirit continues to touch the lives of countless animals.

The event’s success was further amplified by the opportunity to showcase our adoptable dogs. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and supported this cause. Special thanks to the Toccoluna Club for hosting and to all who made this event possible.

💙🐾 Still Celebrating Pit Bull Appreciation Month at Rover’s Do Over! 🐾💙

Here at Rover’s Do Over, our mission has always been rooted in love—for the misguided, the mistreated, and the misunderstood. And no one understands that better than the people who live it every single day.

This week, we’re celebrating the heart of RDO—our core team. The ones who answer messages late at night, rush to save dogs in need, coordinate fosters, and make second chances possible every single day.

But what makes this team even more special? They don’t just advocate for pitties… they live it. Each one has opened their own home and heart to a pit bull–type dog rescued through RDO. 🏡💙

From block-headed snugglers to zoomie champions, from shy souls to social butterflies—these dogs are our “why.” They remind us every single day that love heals, stereotypes lie, and second chances change everything.

Last week, Rover’s Do Over was called in to assist animal control with another heartbreaking case: two sweet dogs left alone after their owner tragically passed away. What we found was unlike anything we’ve encountered before. These poor pups weren’t just scared and fearful—they were completely encased in layers of matted fur from head to toe, right down to their skin. It was so severe that their limbs and movement were restricted, and hygiene neglect had led to painful UTIs and other health issues. As we carefully shaved away the mats, the relief in their eyes was unforgettable—a spark of hope emerging as they felt freedom for the first time in who knows how long. ❤️🐕

This is just one of the many unexpected emergencies that come our way, and we’re committed to putting these dogs first, no matter what. Amidst responding to urgent situations, regardless of the time, and helping animals in dire need when the list seems endless, we’ve also been managing multiple veterinary procedures for the pups in our foster program—from surgeries to treatments that give them a fighting chance. But here’s the reality: We’re a 100% volunteer-based organization with only a handful of us juggling full-time jobs, families, kids, our own pets, illnesses, and all the curveballs life throws. Yet, we show up tirelessly because these animals can’t wait.

The expenses? They add up FAST—vet bills, medications, fosters’ supplies—and without your support, we simply couldn’t keep going. In the last 22 months alone, your generosity has helped us impact over 400 dogs, giving them the second chances they deserve. These two are now safe in loving foster homes, where they can decompress, heal, and get the care they need to thrive.

💛 Lefty’s Second Chance at Life 💛

Some dogs just speak to your heart — and Lefty is one of them.

When we met this gentle senior terrier mix, he was hours away from losing his life. A neighboring shelter had placed him on the euthanasia list because of his appearance — a slight head tilt, some muscle loss, and a heart murmur. They deemed him “unadoptable.”

But we looked at Lefty and saw something completely different. We saw hope. We saw joy. We saw a dog who still had so much love left to give. 💔✨

So, we said no — Lefty’s story wasn’t going to end there.

Today, Lefty is thriving in his foster home. He’s happy, playful, and full of life. He adores tug-of-war, playing with toys, and snuggling up after a good romp. His medical needs are well managed, and he doesn’t let anything slow him down. He gets along beautifully with the other dogs in his foster home and greets every day with a wagging tail and grateful eyes.

Lefty may be a senior, but he’s proof that love knows no age. He’s ready now for what he’s always deserved — a soft bed, gentle hands, and a family who will cherish him for the rest of his golden years. 🌤️
