Lulu's Locker Rescue

Lulu's Locker Rescue Lulu’s Locker rescues the most overlooked, highly euthanized companion animals - black cats & dogs She rubbed up against me and I was immediately attached.

Lulu’s Locker President, Dawn Isenhart-Copp, had an idea to focus on helping those animals who are consistently the most overlooked and misunderstood: black cats & dogs, FIV cats, and senior/hospice animals. With a love for animals as well as rescue, foster, and TNR experience, she was ready to make it happen. In September 2011, she approached Erin Lamparter and Mike Copp to co-found this unique r

escue. With Erin’s animal shelter and outreach experience, lifetime dedication to animal welfare, and deep appreciation of her black cat family members, she was thrilled to launch this unique initiative. Mike’s experience and involvement with rescuing and caring for shelter animals, as well as being extremely active with TNR, was an invaluable addition to the rescue’s mission. The efforts of Lulu’s Locker also wouldn’t be possible without our incredible and dedicated team of volunteers! Andy Isenhart, Dawn’s son, shares his touching story of animal companionship from which the name and “underdog” concept of Lulu’s Locker Rescue was created:

“When I first met Lulu, I was at a very low point in my life. I was 13 and in 7th grade, and had many friend and bully problems. Plus, being an only child with a single parent, I had to spend a lot of time by myself. Since my mom and I had just moved into our house at the time, we felt we needed a pet and we decided on a cat. Within days of this decision, we went to our local cat and dog shelter to search for our new family addition. Within literally one minute of being in the shelter, I saw her. She was in a small cage packed in with her brothers and sisters. All of the other kittens were on top of her and playing rough and all I could see was her face looking out. I don’t know how she caught my eye considering she was so hidden but she did. Her name was Thursday at the time and I asked if she could come out of the cage so I could play with her. She was so tiny with a little face and shiny brown and white fur. ou see, when I saw Lulu, I didn’t just see a cat. I saw myself. She was bullied by her peers, she felt that she didn’t fit in, she was the runt of the litter, and I could totally relate to that with what was going on in my life at the time. I wasn’t just saving a cat; I was saving myself. The one image I will never forget from that night was when we began the paperwork to adopt Lulu. My mom took care of filling it out as I stayed close to Lulu in her cage. When I looked back at her, it was HER that was on top of her brothers and sisters sitting up straight, as if she was showing pride and gloating that she got picked and they didn’t. That image just boosted me with so much confidence, and since that night of September 27th, 2004, Lulu has made my life better. She is there to lay with me when I am sick. She is there to listen when I need someone to talk to. She is there for me to kiss and hug when I need someone to love. She is a shoulder to cry on when I am sad. She is more than just a cat or a pet. She is a great friend and companion. I wish everyone could experience this love – Lulu has given so much happiness to me, and hopefully my story will inspire others to open up and not let a wonderful opportunity of making a great friend pass by. Pet adoption is a cause dear to my heart – please help out in any way you can by fostering, adopting, volunteering, or donating. Your help can save so many lives!” ~ Andy Isenhart

Adopted! Hammy!

An amazing family applied to foster a cat. We knew they had a little girl and thought Hammy would be a good fit. We just didn’t know how good a fit! Hammy made himself part of the family. He loves every member and the feeling is mutual!

Happy Life, Hammy!

Lulu’s Forever Crew Update!

Frito Pie is part of Lulu’s Forever Crew. That means he has a home with his foster family and we make sure he gets all the care he needs. Frito was diagnosed with a low grade cancer which is how he became part of the Forever Crew. He had four more growths surface so we had them removed, and will have the biopsy back in a week or two.

Meanwhile, Frito is living large getting all the attention this sensitive soul requires. He really is just the best boy and always the perfect representative for Lulu’s Forever Crew!

Henriette is over a week into her treatment for her severe IBD.

She is doing so well, and we are starting to notice a bit of a difference. She is such a doll! When you kneel down to talk to her, she shows her belly for some rubs. Whoever ends up adopting her is going to be so lucky!

Another incredible update!

Lala! Here is her mom’s check in:

I wanted to share with you mine and Lala's 2 year anniversary story. When she 1st joined me in my home, she was scared and timid, and now she's less scared and less timid. She still runs and hides from new people in the home, but has shown great improvements in accepting pets once she feels comfortable with their presence. She loves her treats, enjoys a few select toys, and would permanently attach herself to my lap if I would let her. She has brought so much joy into my life, and I am grateful every day that Lulu's allowed me the joy of adopting her.

We ❤️ when adopters check in!

Fawn (buff) was adopted in August of 2024. It was not love at first site for Fawn and her sister. It took a lot of introducing and reintroducing. Trial and errors, but her adopter never gave up. It’s a real testament to patience and understanding.

Her adopter said, “it’s a love-hate relationship at times, but when is it not when dealing with cats.” Truer words were never spoken! 🤣

We love hearing these fabulous stories and we really wanted to share the positivity! If you have adopted a Lulu’s animal and have a story to share, please email us at [email protected]. Keep us smiling! 😃

This sweet girl was showing her belly to our volunteer this morning! How irresistible!

If you would like to give her a belly rub, submit an application today!

“Hey! That doesn’t belong there!”

Is your New Year’s resolution to be more of a minimalist? Adoptable Salami will make sure those tables and counters are clear!

Henriette Update!

She is very happy to be without her cone after 10 days. We did get her biopsy back and she has severe IBD (irritable bowel disease). She has architectural change in the small intestine due to long term inflammation.

She will be starting a regimen of steroids, vitamin B-12 and pancreatic enzymes for the next month to see if we can get those intestines to start to heal.

Once we know we have the right treatment plan for her, we are going to be looking for a foster home where she can continue to get stronger.

We will keep everyone posted! 💛

Adopted! Cutie Pie!

If you remember, Cutie Pie was one of our senior cats who had ear issues and had a polyp removed. She waited a long time to find her perfect forever home, but she found it.

A past adopter of two beautiful back senior cats, Mama and Miss Yoda, unfortunately had Miss Yoda pass away. She always stayed in touch with us and we were all devastated by the loss, but what a life she led! After taking some time to heal, she contacted us and asked who we would think would be a good companion for Mama and who was in most need.

We told her about Cutie Pie. A senior, FIV+, black cat who will have to continually have her ear monitored. The only thing was Cutie Pie was not exactly great with other cats. The adopter said Cutie Pie was exactly her kind of cat, and could she foster her and see how it would go with Mama. We of course said yes knowing this adopter is one of the most caring and patient people we know.

After the acclimation period, Cutie Pie was playing like a kitten again and was happier than we had ever seen her. The two girls have learned to live together even though Mama wasn’t completely convinced 🤣. But, we did receive a picture of them sharing their mom’s lap. It was made official! Cutie Pie has her forever home!! 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛

Happy Life, Cutie Pie!

Who loves to give those shier kitties a home and earn their trust?

S’mores and Dove are around 8 months old. Dove (right) is a bit more outgoing than her brother and is more welcoming of pets. Now, they both will come around for Churu tubes!

Our volunteers have really made amazing progress with them, but we would really love to see them blossom in a home environment. They are great cats with healthy appetites and great litter habits.

Art is imitating life 🎨

These girls have been with us so long and we really don’t know why. In February, they will be with us a year which will make them a year and a half old at that time.

Their mom was was adopted pretty quickly. Burrito, Chalupa and Gordita are fun and curious girls. They do not have to be adopted together, but if you are looking for a home panther starter kit, we got you! 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛
