Meet Summer, our female sumbawa water monitor.

Fun fact about summer is that she is blind in one eye and almost completely blind in the other eye. We have to work slower with her due to this and rather than have a tall cage to climb, she has a shorter cage to feel safer.

The mind behind this animal is phenomenal though! I can feed her dinner and then show her my hand and she clearly knows the difference even just through using her tongue. Watching her think and move through her cage is so fasinating because of her eye issues. We still love her just the same.

She is skiddish of us sometimes but still allows us to hold her just the same as the others we have. 💜 we hope to have her be a momma someday too!

After doing some research today, Taylor Justice and I are the first successful breeders to get a partho celebensis to full term and hatch in the states. 🎉

I can’t believe our first successful breeding was a beautiful water monitor! Here’s to retics and more in the future. 💜💜

Owning baby tortoises has been so fun, but now that they’re older their personalities are finally coming to light.

They all come out around 8 am every morning for their breakfast and eat happily together. They are out 80% of the day now finally and cuddle together when night time comes 😍

It’s the cutest thing to watch them need to be around eachother and even crawling to me when they know food is coming. 🥰

Our sweet girl, Onyx, has been showing signs of ready to brumate, so here she goes. 💜

Tegus need to brumate their first year of life to have a healthy lifestyle. This will help them grow and to prepare for breeding if you choose to do so with them (we will not).

See you in about 3-4 months girly for a check in.

In order to help them not get lazy, fat, or bored it’s our job as keepers to make feeding time fun and sometimes a workout to stimulate hunting as they would in the wild. So don’t forget to give your monitor this time because not only will your monitor thank you, but in turn your bond will increase.
