With the heat still in full swing, remember that our furry friends feel it too! Walking your dog in hot weather can lead to heatstroke and other injuries. Here's why: Concrete and asphalt retain heat, making it much hotter for your pet, and these surfaces can burn their paw pads. When it’s above 80-85 degrees, it’s best to walk your dog in the early morning or at dusk. If that’s not possible, keep walks short and stay on the grass. Always provide plenty of water and watch for signs of heatstroke, such as excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, and confusion. If you notice any of these, bring your pet to us right away.

After a minor procedure to clean and flush the infected sac, Honey was sent home with some antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. 💊

I had a little adventure recently—I escaped from the house for a few minutes! It was super exciting, but I ended up with a small wound on my side. Boo! She is our new Veterinarian at UrgentVet Franklin! Dr. H has been with us some time, but recently decided to join our team full time! Her passions include urgent and critical care, shelter medicine, and mental health awareness in her veterinary colleagues. She also finds a special place in her heart for palliative and end-of-life care and has become a Certified Peaceful Euthanasia Veterinarian. Prior to following her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian, she was a Registered Nurse in the ICU of a local Hospital. 🩺🫶
At home, she enjoys spending time with both her two-legged (Nathan and Emily) and four-legged (a cloister of cats and three dogs) family, gardening, reading, LARPing, and gaming.🧝🏻♀️🪴📓

Here are some summer safety tips for walking dogs in the summer:
• Limit dog walks during the hottest hours of the day.
• Make sure you bring water for you and your dog and offer more water breaks!
• Avoid hot surfaces such as asphalt, concrete, wood, and sand. Walk on grass or use booties to protect their feet.
• Plan routes that have shaded areas where your dog can rest if needed.
*Be aware of symptoms like excessive panting, drooling, rapid heartbeat, fever, vomiting, or collapse. If you notice these, seek veterinary care immediately.*
