With Fourth Of July approaching quickly, we at Goose Creek would like to remind pet owners that fireworks can be very exciting for all around, but there are many pets that have significant anxiety with the loud noises. Here are some helpful tips+tricks to ease the anxiety so all can enjoy the night! **Keep in mind that preventing anxious behavior is easier than trying to control it once it begins. If your pet requires prescribed medications, now is the time to call!**
🎆IDENTIFYING THE SIGNS: Not all pets are disturbed by loud noises. Some stay calm, cool, and collected while others may panic, try to escape and/or harm themselves or others around. Some signs of noise phobia/anxiety can be trembling, pacing, panting, increased thirst, or just being a little extra needy!
🎆STRATEGIES AND MEDICATIONS: We recommend consulting with your veterinarian to come up with a plan for your pet during their anxious times. Here’s a few tips we suggest:
- Keeping your pet indoors to avoid him/her running away and getting lost. It is also recommended to have some type of identification on your pet should they escape (ex: name or rabies tag and/or a microchip).
- Designate a "Safe Spot" in your home, whether it is in a well known area or their crate. Including familiar items (ex: beds, toys, treats), water, and even music or sound machines to block the loud fireworks can help!
- Consider items such as a Thunder Shirt or pheromone products (Adaptil for dogs or Feliway for cats).
- Consult with your veterinarian if you feel that your pet needs prescription medications.
🎆We will be CLOSED on Friday, July 4th and will reopen the following day (Saturday, July 5th).
