Make sure your horses are current on their West Nile virus vaccination along with your other fall vaccines. If we can assist you in this matter please call the office at 615-395-4441.

We have received another report of a mosquito-borne disease this week. A horse in Hickman County has tested positive for West Nile Virus. Thankfully, the horse exhibited only mild neurological symptoms and is recovering well. 🐴

Protect your animals:
• Vaccinations: Ensure your horses and pets are up-to-date with their vaccinations to help prevent mosquito-borne diseases.
• Vector Control: Implement effective mosquito control measures on your property. This includes removing standing water, using mosquito repellent, and maintaining clean environments.

Together, we can safeguard the health of our animals.

Make sure that your horse’s vaccines are current. Mosquitoes are still active in our area.

🚨 Important Update 🚨
The Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA) has confirmed a case of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) in a horse from Crockett County. EEE is a serious disease that is transmitted by mosquitoes.

While this is the only reported case in the area, it's vital to take preventive action to protect both animals and humans.

🦟 Here are some ways to control mosquitoes and other disease-carrying insects:
- Eliminate standing water around your property where mosquitoes breed.
- Install or repair screens on windows and doors to keep mosquitoes out.
- Wear long sleeves and pants when outside, especially during peak mosquito hours (dawn and dusk).
- Consider using mosquito netting around horse stalls and outdoor seating areas.
- Additionally, don't forget to stay up-to-date with vaccinations for your animals.

If you have not had your horse vaccinated for rabies, please do so. There is no treatment or cure. It is also transmissible to humans via the saliva.

A state veterinarian said the incidence of rabies in horses is relatively low.

Stay in & stay warm!! Due to the continued road conditions/ extreme temperatures, our business office will remain closed Tuesday (1/16/24). We care about the safety of our staff & clients.
