Dogs don’t measure time like we do. You leave for five minutes, and to them, it feels like five years.
That’s not an exaggeration - that’s dog logic. And it’s both hilarious and heartbreakingly sweet.
Dogs are creatures of deep attachment. The moment you become “their person,” you’re everything. You’re their routine, their comfort, their security blanket, their favorite smell in the whole world. When you’re not in their line of sight, they don’t assume you’re just busy. They assume you’ve disappeared. Or worse - that you’re never coming back.
Studies have shown that dogs experience separation anxiety and even depression when their owners are away. Their stress levels drop when we return. Some dogs wait by the door all day. Others pace, howl, or chew things. And some - if they had opposable thumbs - would probably do exactly what this cartoon shows: file a missing persons report and start a search party.
The truth is, your dog misses you more than you realize. They don’t care how long you're gone. They just want you back.
So the next time you get home and your dog greets you like you’ve been gone for a decade - tail wagging like crazy, zoomies in full force, eyes full of love - don’t brush it off.
To them, you coming back is the best part of their whole day.
