TELL US WHAT WAS HIDDEN!!!! This was posted the day they left WITH the name of the rescue!! LIE NUMBER ONE in your post that you BLOCKED everyone you are talking about from seeing!

This dog is at the Bogalusa City Shelter.

If a dog goes into a shelter and its health steadily declines, how is that any better than said dog living on the street or on a chain in someone’s yard?

Shelters are supposed to provide food, water, shelter and medical care for the animals in their facility. Yet Bogalusa has failed this poor dog. I have been following Trudy’s story since she came into the shelter a year ago. I fell in love with her but was unable to adopt, so kept an eye on her progress. I watched as she was taken into foster due to being pregnant, had her litter of puppies, and then after her puppies were transferred to another rescue, dumped back in the shelter. It was quite bewildering to see a dog that had been pulled into a home be returned once her babies were gone, but life happens so thought nothing of it. I saw the effort of multiple rescues to get help for this beautiful girl and find a rescue to pull her without any luck.

When the shelter recently changed hands, the posts on Trudy continued and with each post, you could see slight changes until her pictures no longer were updated anymore. The shelter did a photo shoot recently but for some odd reason, Trudy was not included in this. I decided to stop by the shelter to see her in person, but unfortunately, they were closed but saw pens with dogs in them on the side of the building with a warning sign that said they would bite. I did not try to touch said dogs due to this but was curious so wandered over to see what dogs may be over there.

Imagine my heart break and horror upon seeing Trudy in one of these pens, soaking wet, with food that was filled with water and she herself struggling to stand. She was breathing heavily and unable to even come over to me. The dog I had fallen in love with and followed through her journey was in worse shape than when she was brought in to the shelter. It was apparent the lack of care she was receiving. How is this okay when the same shelter had just raised a large sum of money for a bathtub when the dogs in their care were left to suffer?

No animal should be treated this way but it is beyond incomprehensible that a facility paid for by tax payer dollars is not doing the bare minimum of seeking medical attention for sick and injured dogs. Instead, they are fundraising for things to make the shelter look better and equipment that is not essential to the dogs well-being. Something needs to change and quickly for Trudy and all of the other dogs in their care that we see less and less of on their page as they no longer are deemed “worthy” of public attention.

I am reaching out to everyone to help make this issue known and addressed by the city to get help for these dogs before it is too late. Poor Trudy is just one of many.
