A DOG'S LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT
Before humans die, they write their last will and testament, give their home and all they have, to those they leave behind. If, with my paws, I could do the same, this is what I'd ask . . . "To a poor and lonely stray I'd give my happy home; my bowl and cozy bed, soft pillow, and all my toys; the lap, which I loved so much; the hand that stroked my fur; and the sweet voice that spoke my name. I'd will to the sad, scared shelter dog the place I had in my human's loving heart, of which there seemed no bounds.
So, when I die, please do not say, "I will never have a pet again, for the loss is more than I can stand." Instead, go find an unloved dog, one whose life has held no joy or hope and give my place to him. This is the only thing I can give... the love I left behind."

This is "Misty". The "World's Cutest Pony". Her role in life is to be a companion for our older rescue horses. But we don't have anyone who needs her services right now and I don't have any grandchildren who are local so she is hanging out at a rescue friend's farm who has little ones that love to pamper her! Spoiled pony for sure! πŸ’•

Feeding bread causes permanent damage to ducks and geese. They develop angel wing. They can not migrate or fly to avoid predators. PLEASE DO NOT FEED BREAD to ducks and geese. Cracked corn, corn, peas, mealworms, romaine lettuce, watermelon, grapes CUT into pieces, cantaloupe……are a few good options!

This is why we assist at-risk horses....."Dixie" is a 7 year OTTB who just didn't want to race anymore, coming in dead last in her final race last week. She is a complete sweetheart and our rescue Wayne County New York Adoptable Horses d/b/a Rescue A Horse volunteered to trailer her from the racetrack to her new home with Taylor Steves πŸ’• She is one lucky girl and she is enjoying her new life immensely. Thank you also to Robin Matson and Kandace Gage for assisting in her re-homing adventure yesterday! It takes a village 🐎 to give these deserving horses a safe landing!

And please stop thinking you're doing your 29 year old horse a favor by passing them off to a lesson barn or other little kid. Not only is it horrible stress on the senior, but you're just deflecting the responsibility of the inevitable that IS coming soon. Humane euthanasia is sometimes the right answer.

You only have a few years with your dog so let them up on the bed, the couch.
Let them come for the ride,
let them get the biggest stick they can find, let them roll in the mud.
Let them swim and enjoy the water...because time sure flies and they won't be here forever
In the blink of an eye their time on Earth is done.
A dog is not just an animal, they're here to make you smile.
Always there for you, they could care less what you look like,
or how much money you have.
They won't judge you, or talk about you behind your back.
They Simply, Completely and Unconditionally Love you,
with all of their Heart, their Soul, their Being and Forever, will be the absolute Best Friend you will ever have...

Are you kidding me?? Megs Hems is back in the spotlight again? Doesn't anyone look into the background of this serial animal abuser before promoting her for contests such as this once more? Meg Hems STARVES horses. My rescue Wayne County New York Adoptable Horses d/b/a Rescue A Horse has HANDS on knowledge of this as we were involved in the refeeding and rehabilitation of FOUR of them that were literally days from death after spending the winter of 2020 in Megs "care". The Retired Racehorse Project was informed of her actions many times and they were provided with pictures and other evidence including letters written by both a vet and a farrier regarding the condition of these starved horses. The RRP ignored the evidence and let this girl continue to compete. Many others came out of the woodwork and provided us with additional evidence that Meg Hems had starved their horses as well, but they were ashamed to admit she had fooled them into believing she was a decent horse caregiver and had stayed silent. SOMEONE needs to hold Meg Hems accountable for animal abuse and stop glorifying her "accomplishments" Makes me sick to my stomach to see her in the "spotlight" again. What is wrong with people? πŸ˜”

Some general advice regarding Lyme Disease in horses. Notice a personality change? Unusual behaviors? Lameness? Back pain? Unexplained Laminitis? Neurological issues? Fever? Joint pain? Uveitis? Sluggishness? Weight loss? Colicky? Something a little off but you just can't put your finger on it? Call your vet and TEST FOR LYME. It's treatable but it first needs to be identified. And it's raging out there. 😞

POSTED IN SYRACUSE, HORSE and TACK:

"This is a public service announcement. My vaccinated horse has a confirmed case of Potomic Horse Fever in the Cazenovia, NY area. She is at Cornell fighting for her life. Cornell is recommending PHF vaccines now early spring (April) and boosted late summer (August) instead of 2 doses starting in late summer. It is only July and they are seeing a high number of cases early this year. Prayers for my mare are appreciated."

This is why we assist with at-risk horses! Meet "Gimli" He was a Standie rescue from a dealer and most likely heading to a very bad ending. He was adopted by Noelle Sterriker with the assistance of Taylor Steves and placed in the boarding care of Whitney Fox from Locust Grove Arabians. Our rescue Wayne County New York Adoptable Horses d/b/a Rescue A Horse assisted with his initial vet bills to start him on the road to recovery 8 months ago. And just look at him now! It takes a village to assist at risk 🐎 horses and this is a great success story! Thank you everyone.

Calling all HORSE LOVERS πŸ’• Our 501c3 nonprofit rescue is assisting the Ontario County Humane Society (NYS) with the nine horses seized last week that were discovered to be living in absolutely horrific conditions. Our rescue donated 75 bales of hay this weekend with 140 more to come. These are actually two separate cruelty cases and the Ontario County Humane Society, Happy Tails Animal Shelter desperately needs additional financial assistance as the medical and rehabilitation costs will be very significant going foward. Please consider following the link above and making a cash donation to the Humane Society Hug A Horse Campaign. ANY amount is very welcome and please also share this post far and wide. These horses have suffered in silence for a very long time and they need our help. It was TOO LATE 😞 for some of them so lets put our resources together and get the ones who survived this literal horse hell back to health. Thank You in advance. It takes a VILLAGE! 🐎

Copied from a friend....

Rules for dating/marrying an equestrian:
1) They WILL have layers of clothes and muddy boots..either provide a place for them to drop these things or don't whine about the mess.
2) Expensive tack is still cheaper than the horse and human medical bills that can result from cheap tack. Good tack also lasts longer than the horse. Don't question the tack.
3) One horse is never enough. Don't even question this. It is a law of the universe.
4) Caring for the horse is ALWAYS more expensive than the horse. Whining about the purchase price is pointless.
5) When they say, "I'm just going to stop out at the barn for a few minutes." you should probably just make plans on your own the rest of the day.
6) That "not-a-morning-person" that you are used to will completely disappear on the mornings a trailer must be hooked up for a horse-related event. They will be replaced by a bright-eyed super-intense type-A psycho who will NOT care that you need 5 more minutes for your coffee because they need to be at the barn at 5:45 am PRECISELY.
7) Vet bills for horses start at 4-digits and go up from there. If it's less than $1000, pay it quickly and run out of the vet's office before the horse suddenly develops another problem.
8 ) No matter how badly your significant other is injured, you should NEVER blame the horse. In fact, don't mention the injury or the horse if you can avoid it. Suggesting they should avoid riding until they are healed will probably get you a crutch upside the head.
9) If you don't know what to get for a holiday or birthday, a gift card to the tack or feed store is ALWAYS a good option. If you have messed up somehow, this is an excellent way to get out of the dog house. The value should reflect how much trouble you are in. A bouquet of feed store gift cards is generally sufficient to cover very bad mistakes, such as burning down the house or crashing the truck.
10) Your equestrian will be fine if you have your own hobbies and interests. In fact, you had better get your own hobbies and interests. If you want to spend significant time with your equestrian, you need to develop a useful skill.....such as driving a tractor, shoveling, stacking hay, operating a video camera, leatherwork of any sort, or becoming a veterinarian.
11) Trucks are not optional. Yes, the truck and trailer rig will likely be at least half the cost of your house. Arguing about this is unwise, your equestrian will happily LIVE in the truck and trailer and suggest selling the house.
12) Horse craziness is hereditary, generally passed down the maternal lines, but can be present on the males side as well. Prepare for this when planning children.
13) If you need your equestrian to spend more time at home, we suggest building a barn on your property.
14) Date night out should be planned in a different county from where the horse is located. If the equestrian gets within 50 miles of the horse, they will need to stop by. You will be stuck there, see point number 5 above.
15) Never make it a competition between you and the horse. New significant others generally cost less money and are faster to train than a new horse. Just saying. πŸ˜‚
