Happy 31st birthday to Sofie Monahan! Sofie and her mom Jan have boarded at Platinum Farms since we opened in 2000. Jan owned Sofie’s dam CT and bred her to Axon Now to produce Sofie. Sofie is a full Thoroughbred. Jan brought Sofie to Rochelle for training as a four year old (before Platinum Farms was born) and kept her in training and rode her dressage until her retirement. Sofie still has lots of s***k and enjoys grooming and treats from her mom and sleeping during her turn out time. She is still going strong, she has lived a very good life with Jan ❤️

A couple of weeks ago they competed at the Florida Horse Park in the novice division ending on their dressage score to win fourth place! 👏👏👏Kristin and Rochelle got to be there to cheer her on. Congrats to Kit and Duke! 💪They are competing at Rocking Horse next weekend.

We recently got five more Xc jumps (all of these in this line) from Super G Sporthorses! Thanks Super G!Three novice, one training and one starter level. You can jump them all from both directions so double yay! It’s amazing that it has been warm and dry and soft enough this December to continue doing Xc on our course! In the spring we will paint the new (used but in good shape) jumps and put them around our course for some new questions.

Winter time is a great time to work on footwork to create a more athletic horse and rider. Here, Elyse and Ledger demonstrate going through a course which combines cavelletti, gymnastics and jump lines. The focus is not so much on jump height but on improving the horse’s ability to react quicker with it’s feet (this contributes to a safer jumping horse), sustain a quality canter (by increasing strength, engagement, impulsion and straightness) and to get more supple over its back in the air. These exercises also help the rider focus on holding their position, reaction time and the horse’s rhythm. All of these things create a more athletic and capable horse and rider and can be done at all levels. We have been very lucky to be able to ride outside this week but we also do these exercises in the indoor when we need to. If you have the ability to trailer your horse, come join us in some fun footwork lessons!

Trying to get some more repairs in before “hard winter” hits and more snow comes and/or everything freezes…
Yesterday Nick spent most of the day working on fixing up the shedruns. On Saturday he fixed the roof leak in the barn over the grooming stalls (but we won’t fully know until we get melty moisture) and other various things that are always breaking on a farm with horses and deer.

Happy Thanksgiving from Platinum Farms! So thankful for all of our supportive awesome clients and their beautiful horses that we get to spend time with each day 🥰 These turkeys are having a party because they are not spending today on someone’s plate 🤣

Where to put it all? Nick is plowing to the turn outs so we can get some of the horses out. We will get the horses out to the big turn outs today but not the small ones.
