P.F. Is leaping into the New Year! Happy Horsie New Year everybody!
Winter time is a great time to work on footwork to create a more athletic horse and rider. Here, Elyse and Ledger demonstrate going through a course which combines cavelletti, gymnastics and jump lines. The focus is not so much on jump height but on improving the horse’s ability to react quicker with it’s feet (this contributes to a safer jumping horse), sustain a quality canter (by increasing strength, engagement, impulsion and straightness) and to get more supple over its back in the air. These exercises also help the rider focus on holding their position, reaction time and the horse’s rhythm. All of these things create a more athletic and capable horse and rider and can be done at all levels. We have been very lucky to be able to ride outside this week but we also do these exercises in the indoor when we need to. If you have the ability to trailer your horse, come join us in some fun footwork lessons! #pfwintertraining
Where to put it all? Nick is plowing to the turn outs so we can get some of the horses out. We will get the horses out to the big turn outs today but not the small ones.
The horses say Turkeys are weird !
Lots of moisture today ! At least there is no wind. If you are in KY today at the Defender 3 Day Event consider yourself lucky!!
XC day!!
The grass has grown in, the sun is shining, what a great day for a Jan Byyny clinic! Watch video for a virtual mini tour!
Ready to go!
The show jumping course is set for the Jan Byyny clinic tomorrow. So excited! As a bonus we got a beautiful sunset when we were finished. Auditing is free if you’d like to come watch!
Special thanks to Darlene McInnes and Kyle Schultz for helping set the course!we got done just before dark
Our Xc course footing is excellent right now and we have water! We are open for schooling! You need to come with an insured trainer of your choice or take a lesson with Rochelle. $40 per horse to school with your trainer. Text Rochelle at (303)229-1081 if you are interested in some Xc fun! We have jumps from the tadpole level up to Preliminary! Our show jump arena is also for rent at $15 per horse.
As a contrast to the mass amounts of snow that fell this week, last Sunday a handful of P.F.ers were up for some Xc fun! Perfect footing and weather made for an excellent jumping day. Here’s hoping to get back to it soon!
Yesterday was a gloriously warm day with perfect footing for show jumping and Xc! Some P.F.ers got some jumping fun in the sun after weeks of being inside. Here’s another challenging but fun exercise that is a great tune up for the upcoming show season. Gymnastic up the middle with a bending line to the left or right, oxer at the top and two diagonal lines. Here, showing parts of the exercise well executed, is Darlene on Jimmy (first time back jumping after her serious back injury!). Jen on Fleetwood and Ashley on Finn. #pfwintertraining. Xc video coming shortly!
Here is another fun footwork exercise done in our smaller indoor that has lots of variations/options. This addresses straightness and turning and quickens the horse’s and rider’s reaction time. #pfwintertraining
