UPDATE: Arabesque has been adopted!! ๐Ÿฅณ We are so, so happy for her and her new family!

Arabesque is hoping for a Christmas miracle.

As a 2-year-old dog, this will be the second Christmas in her life. Sadly, her first one was spent here in a kennel surrounded by barking dogs. She's seen each and everyone of those dogs be chosen as "the one." She may have passed some of them in the lobby as they posed with their happy new families smiling for an adoption photo before they left for their forever homes. Every single dog that celebrated Christmas in the shelter last year has been adopted.

Except for Arabesque.

Today is her 420th day without a forever home. She surpassed the longest stay here over 100 days ago, meaning she's officially our longest-term resident of all time. Arabesque not only celebrated her first Christmas here but also her first and now second birthdays and everything in between.

What's the reason? We're not entirely sure. Arabesque is a smart, loving, playful girl who is so beautiful that pictures don't do her justice. She's fearful of other dogs, and this always makes it harder for dogs to be adopted, but never for this long. Arabesque was fortunate enough to spend several months in a foster home, and she definitely proved herself worthy of being on the "nice" list. She isn't demanding of attention and is perfectly content keeping herself occupied playing with toys. She is house-trained, gives kisses, and loves a good belly rub. Arabesque is a great girl and a wonderful dog.

Arabesque would absolutely thrive with an active owner who would enjoy having a running partner or an adventure companion. More than anything, she just wants the joy of knowing she's home to stay.

Come in and ask to meet this very sweet girl. Give her a chance and give her a home.

๐Ÿ•: Arabesque is fearful and a little picky on her canine friends. She may prefer to be the only dog in the home. Talk to our staff about doing a meet & greet if you want to give it a try!
๐Ÿ‘ซ: A home with older, sturdier children would be best for Arabesque.
๐Ÿˆ: We do not recommend a home with cats.
๐Ÿฉบ: Arabesque has been spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. She can go home TODAY!

Good Morning Cat People!

Awesome news!!

Awesome news!!

While we acknowledge the role COVID played in 2019-2020 in this decrease of pets coming to Frederick County Animal Control, Maryland, it has been maintained by our own Project Hope mission to keep pets out of the shelter, by Tip Me Frederick, who work hard in their valuable TNR missions, by numerous wonderful local rescue organizations, other local groups such as Animal Welfare League of Frederick County and The Frederick County Humane Society, access to low-cost spay/neuter, and public support!

Thank you to all who contribute to this continued decrease! Let's keep it going down!
