The AWLFC was established as a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization in 2001. What began as a grassroots group of concerned animal lovers has grown into the county’s largest all-volunteer, no-kill animal rescue an

d welfare organization. In October 2009, the AWLFC opened our first adoption center and office at 1202 East Patrick Street, Suite 13A, in Frederick, MD. This office serves as the headquarters for all AWLFC activities, including cat and dog adoptions, our monthly spay/neuter clinic, education and training sessions, and fund-raising events. Founded on the philosophy that every animal deserves a loving home, and that euthanasia is neither an acceptable nor humane form of managing animal populations, the AWLFC has four core programs designed to reduce pet homelessness and euthanasia rates in the region. In collaboration with local shelters, other rescue organizations, and concerned citizens, the AWLFC provides foster care for cats and dogs and then places them in a permanent home via our adoption process. Working with property owners and concerned citizens, the AWLFC coordinates the only formal Trap/Neuter/Release (TNR) program in Frederick County, Fixing Frederick’s Felines (FFF). TNR involves the humane trapping of feral and free-roaming cats, sterilization, and vaccination, followed by release back to a committed care-giver who provides food, shelter, and necessary medical care. TNR is the only humane way to manage feral and free-roaming cat populations. The AWLFC offers a monthly spay/neuter clinic designed to help low-income families and individuals access affordable spay/neuter and vaccinations for their pets. In addition to the monthly clinic, AWLFC provides financial assistance to pet owners who need help getting needed veterinary treatment for their cat or dog. AWLFC subsidizes both the monthly spay/neuter clinic and financial assistance for people facing financial hardship. The Friends Helping Felines (FHF) Program was created to help give people the means to spay and neuter homeless cats and kittens and place them in forever homes at those times when the Animal Welfare League's foster program is filled to capacity. FHF participants will have access to reduced rates for routine veterinary care, including spay or neuter and rabies vaccination. And, AWLFC helps people get the cats adopted into forever homes.

Come meet these two kittens Maverick and Goose on Sunday Jan 5 from 12-2. These bonded brothers are looking for their forever home where they can buzz the couch and chair. Maverick is the talker while Goose talks when he is hungry. Both boys are full of energy and love playing and exploring. The boys are fully vetted, neutered and microchipped. Goose loves to sleep in his chair or in the sunbeam upstairs. Maverick will join him in the sunbeam. The boys love being focused on the laser toy and chasing it. They are getting more use to being held but love to sleep in laps. Goose's favorite place to sleep was under the Christmas tree.

Come say hi to Winston at our adoption center today, Saturday January 4th, from 12-2 pm.

This handsome gentleman is VERY affectionate. He will jump up and bump his furry little head into his foster mom’s hand for pets and he loves standing on his hind legs to get her attention. He gets along with other cats and calm dogs.

Please email his foster mom if you would like more information - [email protected]

Come meet Chip, Biscuit and Fudge at our adoption center today, Saturday January 4th, from 12-2 pm.

These siblings are very affectionate and love to play. They don’t need to be adopted together but would do best in a home with at least one other cat friend to play with.

Please email their foster mom if you would like more information - [email protected]

Come meet these cute kitties tomorrow (Saturday) from 12-2!

Chevy 8 month old blue and white DSH male. He is an out going energetic guy!! He loves everyone he meets and is happy to be carried around! He loves to play with his siblings so he would do best with another younger cat in the house to play with. For more info please contact their foster mom at [email protected]

Atlas 8 month old blue and white DSH female. She loves her toys and to curl up in your lap after a play session with her favorite wand or ribbon toy. She would do best being adopted with her brother Camry. They love to play and nap together. She can be shy at first so would do best in a quieter home without young kids. For more info please contact their foster mom at [email protected]

Camry 8 month old Red and White DSH male. He is a love bug once he is comfortable in his environment. He loves the wand and ribbon toys and to lay in your lap when he done playing! He would do best being adopted with his sister Atlas. He can be shy at first so would do best in a quieter home without young kids.

Come see these bonded brothers, Maverick and Goose who are still looking for their permanent duty station. These sweet boys are approximately 5 1/2 months old, fully vetted, up to date on their shots, neutered and microchipped.

Maverick is the front man for sure and loves to talk. He is very expressive with his face. He loves to play with the ball tower and other toys.

Goose is happy being behind the scenes and has spent most evenings sleeping under the Christmas tree. He enjoys playing with his brother and the ball tower as well.

Both boys love to play, chase the laser light and climb the cat tower. Mav and Goose will allow you to pick them up but they aren't fond of being held for long. However, they love to sleep in someone's lap. Mav and Goose have been raised with resident cats but have only been exposed to a dog once. They have some exposure to small children. They would do best in a home with older children that can allow them time to adjust to their new environment.

For more information, contact foster mom @ [email protected]
