Yup, That’s Me…Evan
Some of you may have a few questions about long time shelter resident Evan lately. Why’s he wearing a donut? Why has his kennel been empty? Why doesn’t he seem himself?
Well, on June 16th Evan started vomiting and acting lethargic. Staff monitored him and gave him medication to reduce his nausea. Eventually they noticed he threw up part of a squeaker. On Monday when he still wasn’t himself he was taken for X-Rays and yep, there was still some stuff in that tummy. We decided to induce some vomiting as a less invasive was to get that plastic out of his system. Later that day he threw up the other half of the piece. He seemed better on Tuesday but Wednesday he started to decline again. He was off to the vet for more X-Rays. With items still clearly visible in his abdomen an emergency surgery was scheduled. On Wednesday afternoon three additional squeakers were removed and he spent the night at a local vet hospital for observation. He got the VIP treatment in a foster home over the weekend and seems to be on the mend. Every day he’s becoming more like his old self and rest assured he’s being spoiled rotten.
We’re not sure why Evan, who has historically always spit out stuffie pieces as he destroys them, decided that these squeakers were suddenly a tasty snack. He will now be strictly supervised whenever he plays with his favorite toys.

Bert & First Impressions
First impressions matter and unfortunately in the stressful kennel environment dogs behave a little differently than they would in a home. Get to know the true personalities of Bert and our other adoptable dogs by choosing Fall for Me Canine Speed Dating instead of walking through the kennels.
Just check out our catalog of adoptables and choose three you’d like to meet. Our staff with then introduce them to you in a more relaxing area for the dogs so they can make a good first impression and you can see who they truly are.

Soccer Loving Rex
Rex doesn’t care if you call it football, soccer or fútbol as long as you promise to kick the ball around with him. It’s obvious that Rex is special because of his on the field talents, but he’s also special because he is HEARTWORM POSITIVE.
FCAC has currently started Rex on a 30 day cycle of antibiotics and are allowing this high energy cattle dog to play only on leash to keep his level of exertion low until we can find him a very special adopter or rescue to take him on and complete his heartworm treatment.
Rex is very friendly and playful. He loves balls and stuffies more than treats, but still enjoys a good petting session. While this very vocal guy likes to trash talk in the kennels, he has done well with other dogs outside the kennel environment. Since Rex is still working on his manners he is recommended for older children so he doesn’t knock them over with this zest for life.
You can find more information about HEARTWORM by visiting The American Heartworm Society's website at https://www.heartwormsociety.org/
If you are an adopter or rescue who would like more info on Rex, email FCAC at [email protected].
