MYTH BUSTED: You don't need to give heartworm or flea/tick prevention in the winter.

It is a common misconception that pet owners don't need to give preventions in the winter because it gets so cold. Although there are certainly fewer mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks, they have many ways to adapt and survive the colder weather, putting your pet at risk of heartworms, a flea infestation or a tick-borne illness.
Additionally, here in Maryland, the weather can be quite temperamental, feeling like spring one week and winter the next, meaning that these critters often don't die out completely and instead go dormant, waiting for a warm day.
Kingsbrook Animal Hospital recommends keeping your pet on heartworm, flea and tick prevention every month all year round!

Today is National Wildlife Day! Remember that wild animals belong exactly where they are - the wild!
If you've found a sick or injured animal, check out this site from our friends at Second Chance Wildlife Center in Gaithersburg, MD.

Any animal tangled in netting, fishing line, or stuck in a glue trap. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FREE THE ANIMAL FROM A GLUE TRAP. Cover any exposed area of the glue trap with paper towels and bring it to Second Chance with the animal still on the trap.

We are celebrating National Toast Day with our friend Charlie Toast! ❤️
Charlie Toast came to us through Appalachian Pug Rescue, Inc. and needed quite a bit of help. After treating his ear infection, we scheduled him for surgery with Dr. Brulo. At that time, he was neutered and had a nares resection (we trimmed his nostrils to make it easier for him to breath!). Charlie Toast also had his teeth cleaned and an oral mass removed (good news - it came back benign!).
Charlie Toast is feeling so much better and is ready for his forever home!

Sometimes our pets do things that they think are super helpful, but their human counterparts don't always agree.

Dr. Leslie said that her rat, Morty, steals exam gloves, but he only does it to help them clean. 😉
