Many senior dogs experience behavior changes as they age. Increased barking, increased anxiety and pacing are some of the most common complaints we hear. Any behavior change should be evaluated by a veterinarian to be sure there is not an underlying cause. However, these changes in older dogs are often due to 𝙘𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙜𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙙𝙮𝙨𝙛𝙪𝙣𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 (similar to Alzheimer's or dementia in people).
This article outlines canine cognitive dysfunction and the signs you may see at home. If you're worried that your pet is struggling as they age, discuss your concerns with your veterinarian.

As they age, our dogs often suffer a decline in functioning. Their memory, their ability to learn, their awareness and their senses of sight and hearing can all deteriorate.
