Yesterday Dr. Horricks and Dr. McGregor worked through lunch doing 2 pyometra surgeries! Our office manager was kind enough to go to the store and get them something to eat.

Did you know that September is National Su***de Prevention Month? September 10th is World Su***de Prevention Day. This time of year is dedicated to raising awareness about su***de prevention mental health. For the Veterinary field specifically, there is an organization called “Not One More Vet” who’s mission is to address mental wellness within the profession. Veterinary professionals are among the enhanced risk for su***de, being a veterinarian is not always playing with puppies and kittens like many people think, it also involves difficult situations such as delivering life changing news to a family, not catching an illness in time, and having to help a family make the best treatment decisions that are in the best interest of the pet. ❤️‍🩹

Speaking for our staff - we appreciate everything that Dr. Horricks and Dr. McGregor do. We see how hard they work everyday and the mental toll they endure on the roughest days. 💜

Since there are evacuation notices being issued in North Carolina, we decided to share some tips to help you prepare an emergency plan for your pets! If there is ever an emergency where you need to evacuate consider preparing some of these items to help protect you and your pets prior to any emergency!

📋 DOCUMENTS - you should have a physical and or digital copy of your pet’s veterinary records/vaccines - especially their rabies certificate! Make sure to include your pets microchip information and ensure your registered information is updated! Consider including a current photo of you and your pet! Also, research ahead of time pet friendly places to seek shelter!

🐾 FOOD, WATER, and MEDICATIONS - prepare 7-10 days worth of food to be stored in a waterproof container as well as bottled drinking water! Make sure to include food & water bowls. If your pet is on daily medication, remember to bring at least 10 days worth of medications with you!

🎾 OTHER SUPPLIES - make sure leashes/carriers are ready and easily accessible! If you have cats, make sure to have a travel litter box & litter. Bring your pets’ favorite toys or blankets - these can be used to help comfort your pet in stressful situations!

🩺 FIRST AID KIT - create a small first aid kit - consider including items such as gauze, gloves, medical tape, scissors, benadryl, rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide. Also include your veterinarian’s information or research vets in the area you are staying in if evacuating.

Back-to-school season is officially upon us! 🚌

Did you know that sudden schedule changes can catch our pets off guard- especially those prone to separation anxiety?

Here are a few tips to help prepare them for change and help reduce anxiety!

📕 Start easing into the school-year routine early
📗 Practice short separations to build comfort
📘 Create a cozy, enriching space for solo time
📙 Leave puzzle toys or worn clothing items with your scent
📚 Call us to talk about anxiety treatment options!
