We have some very exciting news! We would like to congratulate Zoe and family on their adoption of Rita (JC: Allegheny Dbl Lime).
Zoe is a valued volunteer who fell in love with Rita while at the farm. We can’t blame her, she’s the best little mare! After capturing Zoe’s heart, the rest of her family fell in love too!

Rita (JC: Allegheny Dbl Lime) enjoyed a fun day out participating with other CVHR Alumni and Adopters at Win Green showing our support for one of our other local rescues, Hope for Horses.
Rita came to CVHR last June in poor condition and after a full rehabilitation, she was put under saddle and retrained for her next career.
Rita has proven to be a solid mare and a favorite of everyone who has met her. Check out her intake photos in the comments!
Shadow has let all of us know how excited he is that the temps have dropped and we have started getting rain. There was actually mud this morning!
Shadow has been fully retired at the CVHR farm and provides instruction to new volunteers and visitors on proper horsemanship.

Today we wanted to recognize an important member of our care team at CVHR, Dylan! Dylan came on board with Central Virginia Horse Rescue 4 years ago as our farrier and has been taking care of our horses hooves since we moved to Fredericksburg.
Thank you Dylan for all of your hard work and expertise in working with our horses!

It’s been about 4 weeks and this is Agave as of this morning.
Agave is here from Central Virginia Horse Rescue and she came just needing to get some manners and had some severe trust issues from a previous life. Today was a huge day for her as she stood like a champ while being tied to be saddled. We’re very proud of the progress she has made and can’t wait to see how far we can get with her.
This morning we did something that we prayed and hoped we wouldn’t have to. We put out hay bales. While we are so grateful for the little bit of rain that we have received, it’s just not enough to make the grass grow in our fields.
This is a struggle felt across farms around the state. Let’s all hope the weather turns and we get a few good days of soaking rain. 😞

We are honored to receive this recognition from the Stafford County Board of Supervisors for our role in assisting with the horses. Working together with the county and Hope's Legacy ensured that the horses were safe and cared for.
Animal Control officers needed to rescue 25 neglected horses quickly. Rounding up horses and coordinating trailers and homes is a daunting task but they accomplished it with the wonderful help of some pros - Hope's Legacy and Central Virginia Horse Rescue. One year ago, Central Virginia Horse Rescue stepped in to help 25 horses from the Shenandoah Thoroughbred Seizure. Today, we remember the incredible journey these horses have taken and celebrate the progress they’ve made thanks to our amazing community.
We still have two wonderful horses from that seizure, Tesha and Sonny, who are looking for their forever homes. These resilient horses are ready to find loving families who will cherish them.
A heartfelt thank you to all of our donors, fosters, and volunteers who made it possible for us to rescue and rehabilitate these horses. Your dedication and generosity have truly made a difference. 💕🐴

Vinnie, our resident blind horse, continues to prove that blind horses really can be just like normal horses. Vinnie has been with CVHR for over 2 years now awaiting his forever home and someone who has space in their herd for a guy like him.
