If sweet, curious chestnut mares are your thing, then you will LOVE Mireya! Mireya is all business under saddle and requires a confident, intermediate level rider.

Mireya is just starting to be put under saddle and is working to get back into shape. Mireya will do best in a home with someone who is looking to ride 3 - 4 times a week. She aims to please and would likely excel in most disciplines.

We have an adoption announcement! 🎉

Diesel has been adopted and headed to his new home yesterday! Bob, a long-time volunteer and CVHR supporter, fell in love with the big guy. Bob has adopted horses from us in the past and treats them like royalty.

Let’s congratulate Diesel on his happily ever after!

We often joke that these two brothers are like giant retrievers. During a blanket check, we discovered they were playing tug-o-war with something. As we got closer, we realized these giant labradors had found a stick to play with!

Prince and Cairo are playful 5 year olds and you may see some marks on their faces from when they play rough. They’re best buddies and always keep us laughing!

*The stick was promptly removed after this video*

This Giving Tuesday, your help means everything! 🆘

We are urgently seeking support for our veterinary bills with a goal of raising $10,000 to get us through the winter. Your donation means horses like Lisbeth get the care she needs to come back from neglect. We want to be able to take in horses during the frigid winter months and bring them back to health.

Every dollar counts and no gift is too small! You can donate below: https://givingtuesday.mightycause.com/organization/Central-Virginia-Horse-Rescue?utm_medium=email&_hsenc=p2ANqtz-_ZcqjR8kMs90GCE7RSj4rK48WQs2IsWXYM3esNDtRzE0GW9bY_wsoFE2FBtZqCthmGrIDarlHnJJYbsrW7diB6l3AJheARB0zSgzp1c6haasQO2Ok&_hsmi=336635482&utm_content=336635482&utm_source=hs_email

URGENT PLEA!

We were preparing for the
with asking for new fencing supplies. But this past weekend we had 4 horses come into our rescue and two are severely underweight! One was given a body condition score of 1.5 which is horrific.

Caring for these horses is the utmost priority but we can’t do it without your help. They all saw our vet on Monday for vaccinations, bloodwork, and exams.

We’re going to try to save these horses. We are asking for your donations to give these undernourished horses the best chance. They arrived in shocking conditions and we’ve been working tirelessly to get them comfortable with warm stalls and mash.

This is where you can make a difference. If you cannot donate, please share! These horses are counting on us to provide the TLC they need.

To donate:

All donations tax deductible! We are 501(c)(3) non-profit horse rescue.

Let’s find our adoptable horses Homes for the Holiday! 🎅

Featuring Levi, a gentle companion for life.

Name: Levi (Mr. Leader)

Breed: standardbred
Age: 23
Height: 15.3 hh
Color: bay

Levi is an 23 year old bay standardbred gelding with a heart as big as his presence. Standing just under 16 hands, he carries the wisdom and calmness of his years with grace. Although he is not sound for riding, Levi’s personality and gentleness make him an excellent companion for anyone looking for a horse to love and care for.

Temperament and Handling:
Levi is a dream to handle on the ground. His easy-going nature makes him a joy to be around, and he is well-suited for someone who appreciates the serene company of a mature horse. He is barefoot and loves being groomed. Levi will always greet you at the gate hoping for a treat or some attention.

Ideal Home:
We are looking for a loving forever home for Levi, where he can enjoy his days in comfort and peace. He would be perfect for a family or individual seeking a non-riding companion. A home with pasture access and perhaps other equine companions would be ideal, as it would allow him to enjoy his retirement in a nurturing and natural environment.

Health and Care:
Levi’s well-being is of utmost importance. We are happy to discuss his health history and any specific care needs with potential adopters to ensure he continues to thrive in his new home. He is currently on Zyrtec for allergies with no other medications needed.

To learn more about Levi, please send a message to the page. Help us get Levi into a loving home this Holiday season!

It’s all thanks to our supporters who contribute to help us provide our horses the best care. Every dollar has a purpose at the farm and we will never let the horses go without.

Remi and all of the horses THANK YOU for your generosity.

The size difference between these two sweet boys is a few hundred pounds!

Our youngster, Sonny is saying hello to our gentle giant, Diesel. They have very similar personalities despite their age (and size) difference. Both love to be groomed, showered with attention, and have fantastic ground manners.

We sure love these two!

The Phoenix Center for Integrative Learning came out to CVHR as part of our Youth Outreach Program. The students had a hands-on learning experience that covered the basics of horse care, management, and the ethical treatment of animals.

We gave history on how many of our equines came to CVHR and how we provide a temporary home until a loving, approved home can be found.

They had lots of great questions about horse care and students quickly told us their favorite horses on the farm. Luckily, the rain held off for their event!
