What are some potential reasons why your dog may not be listening to you? One reason could be a lack of motivation, which can be addressed by finding a reward that your dog highly values, such as food, toys, or play, and using it to motivate your dog during training. Another reason could be a lack of understanding, resulting from insufficient training and education on the desired behavior. This can be overcome by providing numerous successful repetitions of the behavior in multiple environments. Furthermore, a lack of clarity in the cues you provide may also be a contributing factor, which can be resolved by using consistent and uniform cues.

Training tip: Train your dog to associate their name with immediately stopping their activity and focusing on you. This can be achieved by calling your dog's name, pausing briefly, and if they fail to respond, make a small sound to prompt them to look. Once you get eye contact, acknowledge with a "good" and reward with a treat. Remember to not have the treat in your hand until after they have made eye contact. With consistent practice you should have a prompt response to their name.

-Attach a bell to your gate so you can hear if it's opened
-Be careful who can see your pet's photos on social media
-Keep your pet on a leash
-Never leave your pet alone in a car

This February is for the cats, and more specifically it’s for their health, so we call it National Cat Health Month. Every cat parent should spend the month with extra focus on their cat’s physical and emotional well-being, and educate themselves on signs of unhealthy behavior or illness. We love National Cat Health Month because it reminds us to give extra love to our sweet kitties and serves as a great way to celebrate our furry friends beyond just posting cat memes!
