Battlefield Australian Shepherds and Miniature American Shepherds

Battlefield Australian Shepherds and Miniature American Shepherds Battlefield Australian Shepherds and Miniature American Shepherds is located in Central Virginia. Our dogs represent US. PLEASE LIKE AND FOLLOW US!

We selected our name to represent our wonderful American roots. Battlefield provides HEALTHY Australian Shepherds and Miniature American Shepherds who grow to be amazingly talented dogs. We are ethical, reputable, responsible, and show breeding stock to prove compliance to the standards of the breeds. Our dogs are lovingly raised at our home as part of the family. We live on 3 beautiful wooded acr

es in the country. Puppies are raised with plenty of stimulation to the environment via sounds, touches, and smells. We use PUPPY CULTURE to help the puppy to be the best it can be. We work on manding with the puppies as well as starting clicker training. Puppies beginning crate training and potty training. Many puppies are fully potty trained before they leave and have no aversions to the crate at night. We provide their 8 weeks 5-way vaccination per state requirements and are dewormed throughout their time with us. Our puppies are introduced to "BATHES" and the dryer. We begin nail trimming at 2 weeks of age. We have pet and show prospects available to loving homes. Our dogs have had all their health testing done from CEA,PRA,HC, DM, MDR1, to the REQUIRED hip and elbow xrays at 2 years of age,OFA, and CERF eye exam by a licensed vet ophthalmologist. We only breed our dogs when testing is complete. INTEGRITY AND TRANSPARENCY are everything. We stand behind our dogs and what we do. We don't have litter after litter all year long. We selectively breed our dogs to create the best match. Form follows function. These dogs are not for everyone. Please research the breeds before contacting us. Ours can do their intended jobs which means they are athletic and active. This is not a couch potato breed. We also match our puppies to their owners. We are a field representative of Life's Abundance and our puppies eat this food for at least the first 2 years of life.

Video of their first day out. Sitting on gravel hurts your butt. lol.

The good thing, the limestone gravel will keep bugs down. Bad thing, their coats feel dusty now.

First day out! Tim using the pneumatic nailer, grinder, and air compressor putting up the new panels before he leaves for Italy. Being a breeder is a heavy expense but well worth it for my dogs safety and well-being.

Here is some cute pictures of the puppies right as I put them in the play area. K9 Trass from Forever Lawn still hasn’t arrived.

I played outside with the puppies then went inside to deep clean their space.

Kohl’s puppies just started eating food and will join these guys next week. All have collars on to make it easier to identify.

Fed at 8:00 and played hard for 30 -45 mins. Now they climbed back in the whelp box for their nap. Where did they put all the toys? lol

As you can see, potty trays everywhere. Once they are not having potty on floor, and all in the pans, they will graduate from using a tray until we are just two in that one area. Sara’s start short trips outside for more noise exposure.

Kohls puppies are the second picture and learning in the whelp box. They have had a tray in there for almost a week now. Next, they will have free range in there area for a week with pans and learn how to use the doggie door. Kohls will start eating this weekend.

Okay all. Here are dates for vet visits.

Sara’s litter is Friday, August 30 @ 4:00 pm

Kohl’s litter vet check is Friday, Sept 6 @ 3:00pm.

Sara’s puppies love human interaction. If I get off the floor and move around, the two male black tris tell me to sit back down! Very very affectionate. Blue Merle males investigate before they come to me. lol. The big blue girl, gorgeous sort of watches and does what everyone else does. The smaller blue Merle female climbs up my legs and loves to be petted. The one blue Merle with heavy coloring always goes to the potty spot and investigates.

Kohls. Go to sleep. lol. They are still a little laid back yet. They are in a puppy coma!

Sara and Kohl puppies are getting dewormed, since all older dogs get their heartworm meds today.

Only Heartguard and Interceptor is given for heartworm meds, ever! No Bravecto, Nexguard, or Revolution. Flea and tick is easy to control with essential oils, Wondercide or Eco Smart in the yard with lime. All super safe for animals and humans. Snakes and insects alike hate the PH in these natural remedies. Google the PH of cedar oil and garden lime.

Sara’s puppies out on the solid G Floor. It is so funny how much they talk. They went to sleep as soon as I put them back in the whelp box but they started to explore.

Poppy, the black tri female I have named! I love her. I think Merle’s are noisy! Braaaahaaaa

I thought I had a video but guess I just did pictures.

Kohl’s puppies are on grey and quiet little babies right now.

Spend a lot of time playing and holding after puppy areas were cleaned up. Moms are now blowing coat and fur everywhere. Time to break out the vacuum tomorrow.

Jill will be playing with the cuties while I groom on Monday. Pictures coming after Monday. Sara’s puppies will get collars to help get them ready for homes.

Remember, socialization is paramount the first year you have your puppy and even more important the first 4 weeks after you have your little gem! Exposure! Exposure! Exposure!

Put your puppy in your arms and get out there every day! Stores, parks, schools, other people’s houses…. The skies the limit. The more exposure the more successful your puppy will be!!

Without solid exposure to sounds, other people, and animals you risk developing a fearful dog who lacks confidence later down the road.

Even the best puppy going home can be reactive without proper exposure.

Reactivity is hard on dogs — without support your dog could become aggressive You want to take a relaxing walk with your dog, but at just the sight of another dog or a person, they start barking hysterically, forcing you to drag them away. This is a reactive dog — one who overreacts to normal si...

Hi all! I will posting Kohl’s puppy pictures soon.

We currently are taking deposits on both litters. While I have 7 reservations, I have 15 puppies.

If you are not close to Virginia, we do have and opportunity to fly with a pet nanny. I did make the overall cost lower to accommodate traveling.

I have two puppies going to Texas and what better way to keep your puppy happy than with a pet flight nanny!!!

Sara’s litter will be going home the Labor Day weekend. Sara’s puppy wellness exam is on Friday, Aug 30 and can arrange for pick up at the vet after the appointment covering the requirement of vet visit within 48 hours!!!

Kohl’s litter will be going home the following week on the weekend.

Because I am a teacher, release of puppies is only on the weekend.

Puppies with tails, puppies with no tails

It was so hot in car. Puppies did not like the hot. As soon as they were in the building, they all went to sleep.

Thanks to Jill LaRue, the Battlefield nanny! She discovered one likes to have his paws rubbed and held. As soon as you put him down he cried. He is going to be a snuggle bug!!

Time to strip out your dogs. You would be surprised at how packed the undercoat can’t get.
1. Use a coat rake and rake thoroughly. (Goo got the Marrs stripped because his was just too thick)
2. Bathe with a good deshed shampoo and massage for a while. The pour needs to open to release dead coat.
3. Rinse with a strong head on your hose to remove dead undercoat. Wash again then again.
4. Condition. Brush through.
5. Line comb the left over undercoat out while your dog is on side. Spray with conditioning spray and gently comb the undercoat out just like you would do your own hair. Hit a mat. Gentle work through the mat a little at a time.
6. Lastly, brush and blow dry.
7. Trim feet, nub, ears.

So Goo got a huge trim. But he is so happy. He probably will freeze tonight. I only shaped his head, ears, nub, and feet. I tidied the feathers due to him licking his legs from arthritis. Yes. The red color on his legs is from arthritis licking. It does not bother me. I keep it clean.

He doesn’t look 13 does he? He looks like a puppy. 🤣🤣

Last night started the countdown. This morning not eating. So Sara is getting really close.

Changed the configuration and floor. The tile is under the G Floor. It was easy to clean but was a bit slippery.

She has things in her whelp box to rip up. So we are watching and waiting.

Black and blues in this litter. With Kelli and I evaluating for show prospects, some placements will be made once they are 7 weeks old. Any mismarks can be place earlier once I determine personality and temperament.

05/26/2024

Transitioning an older dog to a new home is critically important. Good breeders spend time with the new family listening to how their family ticks. This isn’t a one time thing. It is done over weeks.

The dog can just be picked up by the owners and that is it. There needs to be a transition, an acceptance by the dog that someone is going to come into their life. A dog not prepared will leave to go back to the home they felt connection and security. Our job in this transition is to make the dog feel safe.

Over the last few years I have seen a few breeders sell older dogs who failed to prepare owners and the dog for this change ending up with horrible things happening. Dogs repeatedly run away from new owners who end up getting the blame for the escape when it wasn’t their fault at all. It was our job to make the dog secure knowing we made them safe for the next chapter.

Breeders spend time with the new family before the decision. Go to their house and spend time with them with the dog you are rehoming even if it takes a few visits. Let the dog get familiar with you communicating and interacting with them. Then and only then should the dog stay and YOU leave.

Here, at Battlefield, we invest in our dogs and they are our family. We take time to find the right families for our dogs. We don’t have puppies to populate the Earth either. We take time to investigate their personalities to make sure the fit is right and follow through with the same procedure and care with our older dogs who are placed in forever homes.

What kind of breeder do you want? One that sends you packing and hoping for the best or one that will invest time to ensure the lifelong success of the dog?

Here is LC less than 24 hours on her new home. She is one of the most obedient dogs I know. I let her wander off leash checking the family out with their dog Rocco. I drove over 2 hours to get to her new home and spent several hours making the transition work. It was the best choice for her and could not be happier. In July, she gets to go on travels to Alaska and her summer home in Florida. Look out alligators, LC is coming. She will be the boss.

Here is Gigi! Over several months and several trips, Gigi built a bond with her new owner Wendy. We went on weekends and spent a few hours then come home. We made sure the house was dog proof including relocating bird seed for the birds since the new owner lives right on a lake. We checked fences to be sure all was good because Gigi will is athletic and likes to chase. The Grey Blue Herring that perches on the fence by the shore will be investigated. Gigi’s transition took time due to strong attachment to me, so I made time for her like mom aka breeders should.

Both dogs could have taken off. However they didn’t because the transition and emotional release was present. We are not leaving them. We are setting them free to love someone else and grow with them.

Nothing makes my heart happier than seeing happy and healthy transitions when then they occur. I try to make sure they can withstand changes in their life’s and work to make new changes happen.

LC is happily with her new buddy Rosco and her dad Charlie. Gigi is with her new mommy Wendy. Both can run free and enjoy life with people who love them! ❤️❤️❤️❤️.

Give them a big shoutout!!! WTG Battlefield doggies and owners!!

Our Story

https://goo.gl/JvrX2p Our website that can be reached via Facebook.

Battlefield is a quality Australian Shepherds and Miniature American Shepherds found in the heart of Virginia. We are ethical, reputable, responsible, and show breeding stock to prove compliance to the standards of the breeds. All health clearances done on breeding dogs with health guarantees.

We do not put too many expectations on our buyer families. But we do ask that we place the right dog with the right family. While we understand you want a blue eyed merle female, that blue eyed merle female might not be the best fit. We expect all to take puppies to the vet for their 48 hour pet check, keep all vaccines current, take puppies to socialization and puppy obedience, and keep use up to date with changes and pictures. Boy, do we love those pictures.

We embarked on a new adventure with Life’s Abundance products. Our puppies must stay on the dog food until they are two. If you want a Battlefield puppy, this is a requirement. All our dogs use these products and can tell you this is why they look so good!
