Ticks are most active from March to mid-May and from mid-August to November. Adult ticks and nymphs can transmit Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and other tick-borne illnesses. Ticks can make dogs sick with many of the same diseases as humans. Prevention is KEY!
Oral preventatives or Seresto Collars are your best bet to keep your pets tick free this season.

As the time approaches for todays Solar Eclipse we wanted to remind you that certain dogs may exhibit some of the behaviors they normally do when it starts to get dark outside, but the eclipse is unlikely to directly affect pets in a significant way. However, things like crowds and traffic can most definitely affect them, which is why experts recommend leaving animals at home to be safe.

With the impending weather forecast for tomorrow, here is a short list of ideas to keep your pets entertained while stuck inside.

1. Practice scent work with Hide and Seek games. Hide high value treats in snuffle mats or around the house and let their nose get their mind working overtime.
2. Blow bubbles for your pet! Most dogs are intrigued by watching bubbles, even more so once they see they can pop them. Dog bubbles come in fun flavors like peanut butter and bacon.
3. Get their brains working with puzzle toys or slow feeders! Anything you can do to engage their minds will help keep them from becoming bored.
4. Teach your pet some new tricks! Again, anything to engage the mind is a sure fire way to keep them happy and boredom free.
5. Design an indoor agility course! Put those zoomies to good use and channel that energy into an at-home agility course. You can use different household items to jump, weave and tunnel through.

Something we get asked often is "why am I being charged a de-matting fee, if you're just shaving everything off my dog?"
In short, it is to compensate for the extra time and care it takes to shave a pelted or matted dog.
To give a more in depth explanation, the de-matting fee is not charged because we are going to brush out all the knots, mats and tangles but because the groomers have to use numerous different blade lengths to get under all of the matting & our groomers have to be very cautious when using such short blades. It takes a lot of extra time to repeatedly stop and change out blades to get under all those tight mats, not to mention how hard it is on your pet to have their matted or pelted coat tugged on while we try to shave it off. Our groomers have to exercise extreme caution, and this does tend to take longer overall.

Mr. Myles was happy, happy, happy!

We wanted to put out another reminder to call 5-7 days ahead for appointments because we are starting to fill up farther in advance!
Weekends fill up the quickest and while we have always been able to get most clients in the same day, weekend availability is getting much harder to come by when calling the day before or same day.
We wouldn't be here without all of you, so once again we are incredibly grateful for each and every one of you that brings your pets to us!
