This stunning young shepherd boy, 3 years, came to us as a stray and has the sweetest disposition. He is attentive and playful, loving his ball out in the play yard. He seems non reactive around other dogs walking past them, but we have not tested him with cats. One meet with him and you will fall in love with his sweet puppy ways and endearing eyes. He is available at the Spotsylvania Animal Shelter in Fredericksburg, Virginia today between 12 and 4pm.
6 year old Garcia had the energy of a young pup on an outing to Alum Springs this past week and was the perfect companion! 😊 Here's what his day foster has shared about their fun adventures.
💕 Garcia had a great day! At first, he was a little nervous to get in the car, but after a litle boost, he sat patiently the whole drive. He was great on the leash (with a harness) the entire time and didn’t pull. In fact, there were times I asked him to wait so I could regain my balance or crawl under a fallen tree, and he paused and stayed still until I gave the ‘okay’ to keep going. Garcia wasn’t a huge fan of the creeks, but he loved exploring the woods. Until about a mile in, I actually forgot he was closer to six years old, because he was climbing up stairs and jumping over branches like a puppy! ☺️ Since it was such a gorgeous day, there were a lot of people, kids, and other dogs milling about the park, but Garcia left them alone. He was observant of their presence and sounds, but was completely unbothered. Garcia was, however, curious about the squirrels. He’d pause to watch them scurry and would tiptoe in their direction to get a closer look. When told to leave them alone, he did so immediately and continued on the trail. Before we went back to the shelter, we stopped at Starbucks for a pup cup, and he was very excited about it. Despite his usual grabbiness with treats, he politely licked the entire cup clean. Garcia most likely slept well that night, and I can’t wait to take him out again. 💗
What Garcia absolutely deserves, though, is a home where he’d be able to adventure more frequently. He’s still very young at heart and is such a happy, loving dog. Garcia is available at the Spotsylvania Animal Shelter between 12 and 4pm in Fredericksburg, Virginia. We hope you’ll stop by and meet him!
Starfox, 3 years old, is one of many Huskies currently at our shelter looking for their forever homes. Starfox has yet to be dog tested, but he does seem non reactive as they walk by his kennel. We would not place Starfox with cats. Starfox seems to be housetrained, as he tries his best to keep a clean kennel. Typical to being a Husky, Starfox will need a home that understands the energy output needs of a Husky and is willing and able to provide that for him. Starfox says he hopes to meet a Husky savvy family tomorrow, between noon and 4pm... and be sure to bring fries, as he has shown us he loves them!😆
Adopted Koda is ready for bed after his nightly routine of "crazy dog". 😂 His mom says that he has so much fun at night, playing with toys and running around. He often gets a case of the zoomies. He will start out back in the yard, barrel through the dog door and then runs all around the living room. Then he runs back outside and starts all over again. After a few rounds of this, he's ready to crash all cuddled up with his mom. Life wasn't always like this for Koda (formerly Benji). He is definitely living his best life now! ❤️🩹
Adorable 6 month old Seiko is learning so much in her foster home. She came to us as a stray, but is catching on to home and family life so well. She does well with the family dogs and has tested well with cats. We do recommend to always do a slow introduction when integrating a new dog to a home with cats. Seiko is very smart and willing to please. She's so smart, that she knows if she lingers in the kitchen with foster mom, she might get a morsel here and there. 😉Here's a bit about what her foster mom has shared with us.
💗 Seiko is still being the wonderful pup she is! She gets attached to people she really loves and cuddles are her favorite. She missed her foster dad when he left for a few days for work. Upon his return, Seiko just laid in is suitcase and wanted all his love while he unpacked. She sunbathes in a chair next to the window, and if you have snacks, she is there to watch you finish every bit. 🤣 Seiko loves to nap in the kitchen while I'm cooking, and I believe she does it just to be the first in the kitchen just in case anything gets on the ground. ☺️
If you are interested in Seiko, please email [email protected] and let us know a bit about yourself.
Fluffy a year old, fun loving girl. She lives for moments to get outside to play, and this glorious weather is perfect for it. 🌞 Growing up in a shelter is hard on a puppy, especially since these are the months they learn so much with socialization and training. Sadly, Fluffy was surrendered to us when her family became homeless. She is friendly with just about everyone she meets, but is momentarily unsure about them at first. However, once she gets over her initial uneasiness, she realizes that she can let her guard down and be her joyful, fun loving self. Fluffy looks for any opportunity to get outside and play with toys. She loves them all and isn't destructive to any. She is smart enough to know that destroyed toys become trash toys. When Fluffy is outside, she's happy and playful. But inside, she becomes anxious and depressed. She's used to being in a loving home with kids. Her previous owners say she is good with both cats and dogs, but she seemingly appears to be unsocialized to other dogs currently. Fluffy is good in a crate, but was trustworthy in her previous home. Fluffy desperately need to be adopted into a home where she can become more socialized, as she has been known to be afraid of loud noises at night, baths and brushes. She shows no aggression, just needs the exposure to new things. Fluffy will appreciate the opportunity to share her love and fun personality with a family. She is available today at the Spotsylvania Animal Shelter in Fredericksburg, Virginia between 12 and 4pm.
3 year old Storm loves being outside, getting the chance to run around and be silly. Storm has so much fun every time she's out in the play yard. She is also very affectionate to people and loves going on walks, is curious and enjoys the fresh air. We would love for her to go to an owner with breed experience, as Akitas are very intelligent and loyal, but also have an independent and somewhat headstrong personality. Storm does listen well, and once she settles down, listens to commands. It's just hard for our residents being cooped up for so long, day after day. With this beautiful weather, we are hoping we have successful adoptions going forward. We recommend that Storm goes to a home with no cats, and preferably as the only dog. She loves playing with humans and can entertain herself quite well. Storm is available at the Spotsylvania Animal Shelter in Fredericksburg, Virginia. When you meet this spunky girl, you are going to fall in love. 😍
Somehow Spudz is still looking for her forever home. Spudz, 2 years, is an adorable little tank that has a habit of barreling into and over her humans and canine siblings. Spudz is great with other dogs, loves all people but does need a cat free home. Because of her energy her foster home feels children 10 and up would be best. Spudz is house and crate trained and is the type of gal that you can, and should, take everywhere, as she's great in the car and has never met a stranger. Email [email protected] if you think Spudz might be a great fit for your family, and you for hers and make sure to tell her all about what life in your household might be like.
2 year old Slug is saying hello to a fellow resident from afar. He is a curious boy and seemingly wants to play. We have tested him with other dogs and he seems to be fine with them. Slug is a big softie and has become a favorite of Spotsylvania Animal Shelter staff and volunteers. He's not particularly fond of the confinement of the kennel and seems to be missing home and family life. Slug walks great on the leash and loves his time in the play yard. He wasn't neutered when he arrived and when he had his neuter appointment at the clinic next door, he made an impression on the vet techs. ❤️🩹 If you're looking for a handsome beefcake, please come meet him today between 12 and 4pm in Fredericksburg, Virginia. 🩶
Zeke, 7 months old, is growing up in his foster home. Zeke adores other dogs, but quite obviously can keep himself entertained as well. Zeke is house and crate trained and would do well with children 8 years old and up. He did pass initial cat testing, but recommend taking things slowly with introductions in his new home. Zeke hopes if the entire household is on board, that you will email [email protected] to arrange a meet and greet and tell him all about the fun he could have as part of your family!
Maximus seems to have had a previous owner that has worked with him and cared a lot about him. He arrived to us already neutered and microchipped. About three weeks ago, he was running in a parking lot, until someone found him brought him to us at the Spotsylvania Animal Shelter. He is very calm and polite, but seems a bit sad as to how he lost his family. Maximus is obedient and knows commands, including giving paw. Maximus takes treats very and walks great on a leash. He only pulls to catch a sniff of something. Maximus enjoys exploring the play yard, but also takes time out for pats and love. He is another one of our sweet pups who appreciates attention. Max has a very curious nature when he's outside, looking around at people and things. Max has not yet been tested with dogs nor cats, but seems non-reactive. He is estimated to be around 3 years old and weighs about 45 pounds. This sweet boy is available for meet and greets today until Saturday. We really hope that today is his lucky day. Our adoption hours are from 12-4 pm.
Playtime and opportunities to be a goofball is helping this handsome guy from completely shutting down. Young Gino is a 2 year old Mastiff pup who desperately needs a family who will provide him with a stable, loving home environment. Unfortunately, Gino is not doing well in the Spotsylvania Animal Shelter, and he is exhibiting some stress and losing weight as a result. The longer he sits, the more dispirited he gets. Gino is much too big for the shelter kennels and doesn’t get as much exercise or attention as a young larger breed pup needs. In the last year, Gino has been shuffled around frequently without a stable routine. He was also treated unfairly by the man in the home, but while he isn’t fearful nor aggressive towards men, he does show some reaction with sudden movements and prolonged eye contact, by either cowering or challenging in response. Gino is at the age where he’s receptive and willing to training, and with someone confident and positive, this behavior can be trained out of him. Gino has lived with other dogs, both big and small, but has never been tested with cats. Gino is currently about 75-80 pounds and needs some TLC to get to a healthy weight for his breed. He takes treats gently and walks well on a leash, although he is very strong when he does pull. He has a lot of love to give and has a very playful demeanor when he's outside or in the play yard. We would really love to see him adopted to a home that is familiar to the breed and will help him transform into a confident boy. Gino is available in Fredericksburg, Virginia, Tuesdays through Saturdays from 12-4 pm.
