This sweet face belongs to Coco, approximately seven months old. She has lived with another dog in her previous home, but did have a habit of running at large and would get into altercations with others. We do believe that she would likely do well with another with proper introduction and separated from her sister. If interested in possibly adopting Coco, make sure to bring any other dogs in the household for a meet and greet, Tuesday through Saturday between noon and four pm on Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Sheldon is just so handsome and adorable we cannot help but smile every time we see him. Sheldon is approximately 1 year of age, has been wonderful with other dogs, respectful of the cats in his foster home and we are fairly certain he's never met a stranger. If you are certain you can commit to a lifetime of loving this handsome fella, email him at [email protected] and make sure to tell him all about the wonderful life he could have with you and your family.

Starfox, 3 years old, is one of many Huskies currently at our shelter looking for their forever homes. Starfox has yet to be dog tested, but he does seem non reactive as they walk by his kennel. We would not place Starfox with cats. Starfox seems to be housetrained, as he tries his best to keep a clean kennel. Typical to being a Husky, Starfox will need a home that understands the energy output needs of a Husky and is willing and able to provide that for him. Starfox says he hopes to meet a Husky savvy family tomorrow, between noon and 4pm... and be sure to bring fries, as he has shown us he loves them!😆

6 year old Garcia had the energy of a young pup on an outing to Alum Springs this past week and was the perfect companion! 😊 Here's what his day foster has shared about their fun adventures.
💕 Garcia had a great day! At first, he was a little nervous to get in the car, but after a litle boost, he sat patiently the whole drive. He was great on the leash (with a harness) the entire time and didn’t pull. In fact, there were times I asked him to wait so I could regain my balance or crawl under a fallen tree, and he paused and stayed still until I gave the ‘okay’ to keep going. Garcia wasn’t a huge fan of the creeks, but he loved exploring the woods. Until about a mile in, I actually forgot he was closer to six years old, because he was climbing up stairs and jumping over branches like a puppy! ☺️ Since it was such a gorgeous day, there were a lot of people, kids, and other dogs milling about the park, but Garcia left them alone. He was observant of their presence and sounds, but was completely unbothered. Garcia was, however, curious about the squirrels. He’d pause to watch them scurry and would tiptoe in their direction to get a closer look. When told to leave them alone, he did so immediately and continued on the trail. Before we went back to the shelter, we stopped at Starbucks for a pup cup, and he was very excited about it. Despite his usual grabbiness with treats, he politely licked the entire cup clean. Garcia most likely slept well that night, and I can’t wait to take him out again. 💗
What Garcia absolutely deserves, though, is a home where he’d be able to adventure more frequently. He’s still very young at heart and is such a happy, loving dog. Garcia is available at the Spotsylvania Animal Shelter between 12 and 4pm in Fredericksburg, Virginia. We hope you’ll stop by and meet him!

This stunning young shepherd boy, 3 years, came to us as a stray and has the sweetest disposition. He is attentive and playful, loving his ball out in the play yard. He seems non reactive around other dogs walking past them, but we have not tested him with cats. One meet with him and you will fall in love with his sweet puppy ways and endearing eyes. He is available at the Spotsylvania Animal Shelter in Fredericksburg, Virginia today between 12 and 4pm.

Adopted Koda is ready for bed after his nightly routine of "crazy dog". 😂 His mom says that he has so much fun at night, playing with toys and running around. He often gets a case of the zoomies. He will start out back in the yard, barrel through the dog door and then runs all around the living room. Then he runs back outside and starts all over again. After a few rounds of this, he's ready to crash all cuddled up with his mom. Life wasn't always like this for Koda (formerly Benji). He is definitely living his best life now! ❤️‍🩹

***PLEASE SHARE FOR ZEKE***
How handsome is this guy? Zeke, 7 months old, has been growing up in his foster home. Zeke has had a few emails, but no follow up sadly, so he hopes that you will make sure the entire household is on board prior to emailing. Zeke does well with other dogs. In fact, he is fostered with four others and he love them all. Zeke's cat testing went well, so we believe with a slow and proper intro, he'll do fine living with cats. We do think children 8 and up may be best. Zeke is completely house trained and crate trained and walks well on lead. Let's share and help Zeke finally find his forever home. EMAIL [email protected] to tell Zeke all about the life he could have with you and your family.

1 year young Sheldon, approximately 27 pounds, is still searching for his forever family. Sheldon seems to adore other dogs, has tested well with cats and has been great with all humans he's met while in his foster home, and prior to that, at the shelter. Sheldon hopes that if your entire household is on board to make a life long commitment to his adorable self, that you will email him at [email protected] and tell him all about his potential forever home.

Adorable 6 month old Seiko is learning so much in her foster home. She came to us as a stray, but is catching on to home and family life so well. She does well with the family dogs and has tested well with cats. We do recommend to always do a slow introduction when integrating a new dog to a home with cats. Seiko is very smart and willing to please. She's so smart, that she knows if she lingers in the kitchen with foster mom, she might get a morsel here and there. 😉Here's a bit about what her foster mom has shared with us.
💗 Seiko is still being the wonderful pup she is! She gets attached to people she really loves and cuddles are her favorite. She missed her foster dad when he left for a few days for work. Upon his return, Seiko just laid in is suitcase and wanted all his love while he unpacked. She sunbathes in a chair next to the window, and if you have snacks, she is there to watch you finish every bit. 🤣 Seiko loves to nap in the kitchen while I'm cooking, and I believe she does it just to be the first in the kitchen just in case anything gets on the ground. ☺️
If you are interested in Seiko, please email [email protected] and let us know a bit about yourself.

Kendahl, formerly Cricket, was adopted a year and a half ago and is loved more and more every day. She is so spoiled and adored by everyone who meets her. She had a rough start prior to finding her loving family and they have done so much for her on overcoming past trauma. She now lives life to the fullest and every day is one filled with mutual appreciation and love. Her mom says there isn't a mean bone in her body and that she's the sweetest, kindest baby on earth. ❤️‍🩹 Kendahl loves her sun time on the porch and is the best cuddler. We love getting updates like this where we see amazing dogs given the chance to blossom and experience love. ☺️

Another adorable pup in foster care is Seiko. She is 6 months of age and is fostered with younger children and many other dogs. Ideally Seiko would have at least one other dog in her forever home. Kids would be great too, and based upon her cat test, we think cats would be fine as well. Seiko is house and crate trained, and still has quite a bit of puppy energy. Seiko wants to make sure everyone in the household is on board to add her as a family member before you reach out, but if everyone is, please email [email protected] and make sure to tell her all about the amazing life she could have with you and your family.

***ADOPTED 3/3***
We are just here to flood your feed with the adorableness that is Jacob! Plus, he's the foster we have the most content of currently.😂 Jacob is 5 months old and weighs around 50 pounds. He is likely an Anatolian mix, so he's going to be a bigger boy and will need a family ready to accommodate that. Jacob does well with other dogs, cats and kids, and would love to have children to run and play with in his forever home. Jacob has had no potty accidents and has been quiet in his crate. If ready for a lifelong commitment to having Jacob as part of your family, email him to tell him all about how much fun you could have together and what life with your family could be like. Email the foster coordinator to chat more at [email protected]

This is what adorable Sheldon thinks about not have any adoption inquiries yet. Sheldon is approximately 1 year old and is under 30 pounds. He does well with other dogs and passed his initial cat testing, though we always want to remind everyone to take the time to do on lead, slow and proper introductions. Sheldon seems to love everyone he meets and hopes you will email his foster family at [email protected] to tell him all about the awesome life he could have with you.

We got such a wonderful update from Leo the Lion's new family. He has settled in so well and is getting a long great with their adorable pup. They adopted Leo when they realized how much they loved their daughters cat who would visit periodically. Leo is certainly enjoying being a spoiled and adored member of the family. Here is what his new family has shared with us.
💗 We’re happy to report Leo is settling in well in our home and is quickly becoming a cherished family member. Our vet is treating his skin sores with antibiotics and steroids. His scratching has ceased and the sores are almost nonexistent. He’s eating a lot and is putting on weight, too. He’s a love bug and we are really glad he seems to be enjoying living with us! 💗
** Leo came to us with sores and raw skin, so it makes us very happy to hear that he has been seen by a vet and is taken care of so well. He looks so content and comfortable. ❤️‍🩹

***PLEASE SHARE FOR DIXIE***
She is a 2 years young, house trained, crate trained, amazing with people, including children. She has mid energy level and is trustworthy outside of her crate, and yet no adoption interest has been shown for sweet Dixie. Dixie can easily be in environments with other dogs, but does seem like she would prefer not to share her home with them. Because of this, we think she would be happiest as an only pet in her home. She has so much love to share, is beyond adorable, and has been waiting for quite some time for her forever home. Please share, and if interested in adding Dixie to your family, please email [email protected]

Our Story

Animals are held in accordance with state requirements, and are redeemed by the owner, adopted, or euthanized. Our shelter has been on a NO KILL Mission since September of 2013. The shelter also houses a low-cost spay/neuter clinic, which is operated by Lionhearts Inc., a local humane organization. All dogs and cats adopted from the shelter are sterilized within 30 days from the date of adoption, with the exception of puppies and kittens that are too young.
