🚨Long read but well worth it🚨
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a senior pup with dementia—tossed out of the only home he'd ever known, shot, starving, completely matted in his own fur, and endlessly turning circles because he no longer knew where he was?
Well, that is exactly how this story begins.
Our local shelter reached out one day to see if we would be willing to take such a dog into our care. Did we mention this dog was also blind and mostly deaf?
If you know us, of course we said yes!
On August 26, 2025, we took this little guy in as a foster (since he was on a stray hold). We named him Glimmer of Hope because that is exactly what we had: a glimmer of hope that we could somehow bring him back to health. When his stray hold was up, we officially transferred him into our care.
During one of his numerous vet visits, we discovered he had a BB lodged just below his abdomen, as well as some sort of blockage—something he ate, stool, or a mass. It just wasn't clear, and surgery was out of the question due to his fragile health.
When he first came to us, this precious little soul had no idea what a soft blanket or bed was. He didn't even trust any of us and was scared of human touch. After a while, however, he loved the comfort blankets and beds gave. He also learned to trust us, which was a huge step for him.
Glimmer loved the other dogs in our care. With his dementia, it was like he met each dog for the first time, and he absolutely loved them each and every time! He loved to eat; he didn't even care what it was, it was food. He even came to love cuddles.
🌈On September 20, 2025, his story would end. We made the best decision we could for him—one last act of love—and we said goodbye.
We don't know why someone treated him this way, or who could have been so heartless. We do, however, know that we gave Glimmer of Hope the best last few weeks of his life. We hope he understood just how much we loved him, and we exhausted all means necessary to do what we could for him. 🌈🐾
These tough cases are never easy. But this is why we do what we do. We try our best to help the unfortunate, the neglected, and the abused. We love them for the remainder of their lives, and we always hold onto a "glimmer of hope"—no matter how long that may be. ❤️
