Inside and out, Shelly is special in so many ways! In fact, she is so special that even the vet has nicknamed her Special Shelly! There are so many reasons why Shelly is special so we thought we would share them with you.
On the outside, Shelly has two unique traits that make her extra special. For one, her teeth are not exactly in the right place, so her tongue always hangs out the side. That does not stop her from giving kisses! She saw the vet and no further treatment is needed now. She could potentially need some teeth pulled, but she has adapted incredibly well so we are optimistic!
Shelly also has a unqiue situation where her tail is ever so slightly connected to her body. This means she waddles a little bit funny. Again, nothing further is needed and it certainly does not stop her from running around with the other puppies!!
Shelly has the most special personality. She is dog, kid, and cat friendly- that is pretty special around here!! Her snuggles are the best thing you will ever experience. She nuzzles up close and enjoys all the love and affection. She is a well behaved little girl who is learning new things every day.

Save the best for last! Day 12- Paula💜
Paula has been adopted out twice but neither one was the perfect match for her. After 2 years, we are hoping to find the perfect home for her. She is happiest as an only dog and in a calm household where she can spend her days chewing on bones and snuggling up with her favorite humans. She gets spooked easily but finds comfort with her humans. She walks nicely on a leash and has lived in a house for quite some time now so she knows the rules.
Paula rounds out our 12 days of Christmas which featured 12 of our longest residents. Please consider giving any of these dogs a special home-they have waited too long!

Maybelline and Bellamy- and unlikely duo who are loving their foster home!! Maybelline comes on strong with other dogs, and Bellamy prefers to only hang with females. Both have been at the rescue for quite some time without a foster. Recently we put them together to see if they could get along-safe to say they love each other! They headed to a foster home a few weeks ago and are doing great. Maybelline wants to wrestle all day and Bellamy is so tolerant and entertains her shenanigans. If you are looking for a playmate for your current pup, Maybelline would love to do the job (with a slow and proper introduction). Bellamy wouldn't mind being an only dog or having a female sibling who balances play and nap times. Bellamy has been with us since June, and Maybelline since October. We are so glad they are able to get some time in a home!
Even as new best buddies, they are looking for seperate homes and do not need to be adopted together.

Meet Griffin!
This one-year-old gentle giant is looking for his forever home! Griffin is a sweet boy who already knows “sit” and is working on other basic commands and leash skills. He keeps a clean kennel overnight but will loudly let you know when he’s ready to start his day.
Griffin’s big size and big bark make him better suited for a home with space, he is not a good fit for an apartment or townhome. He’s fantastic with other dogs but needs a cat-free home.
Simba is a 1-year-old pup with a heart full of love and energy! Despite his age, he’s still very much a playful puppy at heart. Simba lives for fun—whether it’s chasing a ball, playing tug-of-war, or zooming around the yard!
With some basic training Simba is sure to become a well-mannered companion and your family’s favorite furry friend.

Bring a rescue dog from Old Dominion Humane Society “Home for the Holidays” to foster temporarily as one of the best gifts they’ll receive. Pick up a rescue on Saturday, December 21 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and return the pup on Saturday, December 28 at 11 a.m. The “Home for the Holidays” program is extended for the New Year’s celebrations, dogs can be picked up on Saturday, December 28 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and returned on Saturday, January 4 at 11 a.m.
Complete a foster application ahead of time to speed up the process!
