This pup came to work at VVC with his mom Elizabeth and was exhausted after a long day of hanging out with our staff! Turn up your volume to hear those loud snores 😴
Turn up your volume to hear this happy kitty purring! Our receptionist Alyssa helped rescue five kittens recently with her nonprofit, A Tail To Be Told Animal Rescue. After their mother was hit and killed by a car, she brought the kittens into our emergency department. Together our team worked together to keep them warm, feed them, and treat their medical issues. Unfortunately, two kittens did not make it, but the other three are doing very well and now have a chance to grow up to be happy, healthy cats! This little one is wearing a very stylish milk mustache 😻
Look at Iver Go!
Meet Iver! He is four months old and was brought to Virginia by Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue after he was abandoned, likely due to his problems walking.
Iver was diagnosed with a spinal anomaly (or spina bifida) when he was only six weeks old. He has never been able to walk on his own, but that has never slowed him down! Our team at VVC Fredericksburg has been helping with with his rehabilitation and we've seen him make steady progress over the past month. He was even fitted in a special cart that will allow him to get around on his own! We're proud of you Iver!
Willie the kitten is taking it easy after his surgery with Dr. Broaddus to fix his diaphragmatic hernia. Soon he'll be able to run and play again, but for the time being he's taking lots of cat naps!
Happy Take Your Dog to Work Day! Studies show taking your dog to work helps to boost morale, reduce stress, and increase job satisfaction. Did you take your pup to work today?
Cheer Champ On!
Champ is 11 mths old and was found abandoned in the Texas area. The Shenandoah German Shepherd Rescue transported him to Virginia and he now has a wonderful foster mom. He is being seen by our rehab team for mobility issues we think are from from surviving the distemper virus causing neurological problems. When he first came to Virginia Veterinary Centers he could barely hold his head up on his own. Through commitment and effort by Champ and his foster mom he is making great progress and strides! Our rehab team used a Help-Em-Up Harness to provide support so he can take some steps on his own. He LOVED being able to get up and move around building muscle and strength. Champ still needs continued rehabilitation to help with his quality of life, but we are all here cheering him on!
May 7-13 is Be Kind to Animals Week. Kindness to our furry friends is our daily anthem! The love they have to give us is unlike any other and for that we say "Always Be Kind".

It's National Dog Day! How many of you remember our first video of Valor weeks ago? He's getting so big!
Valor's first visit
Meet Valor!!
Valor, a 16-week-old lab mix, is currently being fostered by the Fredericksburg Regional SPCA. He presented to CARE Hospital's Physical Therapy department with symptoms similar to those of his littermates, who were diagnosed with a cerebellar disease known as “Demyelination Syndrome” or Leukodystrophy. With this condition, the body has difficulty efficiently and accurately transmitting nerve signals down the spinal cord. As a result, the patient may lose feeling, awareness in space, or the proper control of parts of their own body. In Valor’s case, his difficulty is in placing and walking with his rear limbs.
Valor was most likely born with his condition, his mother being exposed to distemper while pregnant being a possible and likely origin. He remains fully able to do all of the things that a normal puppy would – he still plays and runs around with the other dogs at his foster home, and is all about treats and snuggling. We at CARE have embarked on a journey with Valor; our Physical Therapy department will be seeing him every week to provide him with therapy and to monitor his progress. He is being treated with muscle strengthening exercises, massage, and various comfort therapies to help his overactive muscles. He will also be spending a lot of time on our treadmill to help him establish a proper gait.
Everyone at CARE always gets excited when Valor comes in, as he exhibits so much happiness and irreverence, not at all acting hampered by his condition. We look forward to watching and aiding in his continued growth and progress, and he will be up for adoption from the Fredericksburg SPCA soon!
