True or false? How big does a mini pig get, really? The answer might surprise you!

In reality, while mini pigs are smaller than their farm yard companions, they aren't actually as small as you might think. While some pigs can be as small as 50lbs, the average size of a mini pig is between 100-150lbs, and some pigs can be as big as 200lbs! Mini pigs are also slow growers, and typically take 4-5 years to reach their full adult size. They're also taller than you might think, averaging 14 to 20 inches at the shoulders.

So while it's true that miniature pigs are smaller, they're not the tiny teacup size you may have been led to believe. It's important to make sure that you have the appropriate environment to house a 200lbs pig prior to bringing one home, just in case.

The term "miniature pig" is actually a catch-all term for several breeds of pigs that are known for their smaller stature. There are 15 recognized breeds that fall under the "mini pig" title. The most common breeds are Vietnamese Pot-Bellied pigs, Julianas, and Kune Kunes. Each breed has its own care needs and quirks, so make sure to do your research if you're thinking about adding one to your family! 🐖💖

You may have heard the recent news about Save This Life. If not, Save This Life, a national pet microchip company, recently ceased all operations, and their registry database is now inaccessible. As a result, pets previously registered with Save This Life are no longer digitally linked to their owners. To ensure their safety and identification, pet owners must re-register their pets with an alternative database.

If your pet was microchipped by Hartwood Animal Hospital, you do not need to worry, as we only use Home Again for our microchipping. Not sure which registry your microchip is linked to? Search your pet’s microchip number at www.petmicrochiplookup.org.

If your pet was previously microchipped by Save This Life, please re-register your pet through one of the remaining microchip companies, or by visiting https://www.freepetchipregistry.com/.

Ensuring your pet’s microchip is properly registered is essential for their safety and gives you peace of mind. If you have any questions or need help, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Free Pet Chip Registry is dedicated to the well being and safe return of your pet when lost! Free registration for all pets with microchips in North America!
