Urgent notice for pets with microchips!
The microchip company Save This Life Microchips - which our clinic and hundreds of other clinics have used for years - has suddenly and without notice shut down. The urgent issue for you as a pet owner is that they have unlinked their database from the national registries. This means if your pet becomes lost, there is no way for a shelter or clinic to find your information when they scan the chip.

You MUST register your pet's microchip with a new company.

You can stop by our clinic at any time for a free microchip scan if you no longer have your pet's microchip number written down or to see if your pet's chip may be a Save This Life chip if it was done at another location.

Currently, BuddyID is offering free registration until February 28th for any pet affected by this company's abrupt shut down. You can call them at 1-800-434-2843 or visit www.buddyid.com
*edited to add: BuddyID’s system has been bogged down due to the number of calls from all over the country.

**Two other options for free registration: 24PetWatch and 911PetChip**

Other microchip registration options:
PetLink/DataMars: www.petlink.net
HomeAgain: www.homeagain.com
AKC Reunite: www.akcreunite.org

Please free to give us a call with any additional questions!

Register your pet microchip now. Buddy ID is identity protection for your pet. Manage owner info, launch a SearchAlert, take control of your pets safety.

Captain Hook is looking for a very special type of home, we know the right one is out there for him!

Captain Hook is looking for a very special type of home, we know the right one is out there for him!

Update on Captain Hook, the cat who spent 6 days in a tree a couple weeks ago in Mt Vernon, OH until Duane Hook was able to climb the tree and rescue him AND then tested positive for FELV... Well last week we had further testing done and boy were his results confusing. 🤦‍♀️

His ELISA was positive but PCR was negative so I know that means nothing to most so after further consultation with the lab, the vet confirmed that he is a true positive but is likely regressive and not likely to currently be viremic (contagious). I had found an adopter for him with other FELV + cats but being around other positive cats could make him more likely to slip back into progressive disease so it's recommended he be a single household cat.
This is good news for his health but bad news for finding him a home. I will keep this big boy until we find placement because he is that awesome but all my indoor rooms are full of other cats so he is in one of my indoor/outdoor kennels and deserves an indoor home. Fostered in Mt Vernon, Ohio.

Thank you to all who served!

- The AVMA wants to send out a big thank you to all service members - including all the veterinary professionals and AVMA members who care for our military animals. If you’d like to show your support for veterans, you can help in two different ways:

1️⃣ By supporting the AVMA/AVMF Scholarship for Veterans – which helps military veterans pursue an education in veterinary medicine.
2️⃣ Consider a donation to American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) Veterinary Charitable Care - which awards grants that support the charitable veterinary medical care of dogs and service animals for military veterans. Visit avmf.org/Donate to learn more.
