So much going on here in the hollow. Puppies growing so fast and having so much fun. They are good puppies, working on where to p**p, who to bite and who not to (me!) and learning new places to play and explore.
They make the autumn days more fun, and shortly there will be more leaves to play in!

Last night the puppy's daddy's owner wanted to see some puppy video. They were busy blasting around the house at a gallop, so I got a few videos. Katherine owns Freddie, and will be taking home a baby to raise.
This madness was probably fun but not a ton of help on deciding!

Catching up!
And some baby puppy shots too.

18th day! I'm almost ready to start first food. Maybe tomorrow... Today they will have a first whole day of larger enclosure to explore. Usually they are out only a long as it takes to clean their nest out but today they will be allowed freedom and a chance to work out their own problems as they learn how to negotiate a new area.

What is all the racket about! I had to go look.
Puppies are fussy, mom wants it to just be over. Puppies wanted more. I'd let them be free in the whole living room enclosure when I changed their bedding. They don't all fit in the side area I used to stick them in. So they discovered a huge area and immediately started exploring. When I gathered them back into their nest area, 5x5 get, the disturbance began. They've discovered MORE.
I can never take that back!
Time to start begging friends for newspaper.
Nancy are you avoiding my paper-grubbing behavior?

9 days old.
09/02/2024
A week old already. Like I thought, the big boys were 3 pounds or close to it, and collars all needed changing. They are so demanding, when I get in there I'm covered with loud puppies wanting... whatever puppies want. Food for a starter. Mom feeds pretty much constantly but clearly being a growing puppy is hard work.

Only the puppy owners have seen this and a couple local friends. Here's for everyone. Taken last night on day 5.

Pupdate!
Not as many as we hoped, but the kids have arrived by c section, 2 days after their due date. Luckily in time to keep from losing any, or mom, but still, very late. Mom Boo had uterine inertia and simply did not go into labor beyond panting. So with advice from trusted professionals, (thank you Karen Emery!) we took her to the beloved Dr Jean who did a progesterone test and said "section, right now!" So as usual, she saved the day. Boo isn't feeling very happy right now, super groggy and reserved, she nursed them for a long while, then moved away from the pups, put her head on her pillow and went to sleep. She will feel better tomorrow. She's kissed her kids and looked them over, fed them, but that was all she could manage. I will be sleeping in the nest with them tonight, making sure mom doesn't get stressed, or overwhelmed.
So the total was 5, 4 boys and one cute small dark girl. I'm too p**ped to mess with them tonight and stress mom, so will get their weight and collars on tomorrow when we start to get used to the babes. So far they are already inquisitive, exploring the nest and making a lot of noise! Freddie pups are always unusually advanced and bright, so it will be very fun. I love the little noises. It will be fun to sleep with them. I installed a lamp with a dark shade near us so mom and i will be able to see in the night if a pup gets 'lost' wandering the nest.
And for those hoping to have had a pup available, we will breed Joy her next heat, so the wait will not be awful long. They might be winter pups, but I think if we can, it will be best to go forward with Joy asap. I have all her health tests and certificates for upgrading to breeding status, all I need is 4 photos of her and we are good to go.
But tonight, after waiting for pups since Tuesday night, when I checked mom every hour all night, I'm ready to roll out my bedroll and go to sleep.

Pup date!
A long quiet night. I checked on her once an hour and she just laid there and smiled and wagged her tail. No stress, just happy. At 6am I took her out and she attempted to bolt but is always so obedient and came back from digging in leaves in the woods. She p**ped and peed, came in for first breakfast of 3 scrambled eggs... and she went back to sleep.
Gonna nap a lot today! To day is the due date so it might be a looooong one. She's likely wait till tonight! Grrrr.

Our afternoon update (pupdate, as described by a puppy hopeful) is this:
On hold. No sign of labor, just relaxed and calm and a happy wagging tail and smiles as she waits for lunch at 2.

Update: bad math strikes again!
Doc says probably the 21st, so we'll go in on Monday and try for a clearer image.
So I get a few more nights sleep!
Yay!

We are perhaps hours away from Boo having her babies! Puppy count xray this evening at 5.
So excited!
These are Steady Freddie puppies, repeating Boo's amazing first litter.

Time for a check in with the dogs and the pups!

Got to love weird arrangement.

Ok I have wonderful news! Booboo has finally begun her heat! She's will have her first progesterone test probably Tuesday if we can add her to Joy's appointment and may be breeding within a week or week and a half. Her progesterone level tends to rise quickly. She could possibly be bred by next week! Steady Freddie is once again her chosen Beau. So there will be Freddie-Boos available in late summer!
We are excited to have summer puppies! Always the best time for outdoor play and adventures!

Everyone keeps asking about puppies! If it were a normal year, we would be gestating now! But we aren't. Boo has not come into heat since last October when we missed our chance. April should have been our month... and it's now June...
S***m is awaiting her moment of fertility, as we wait for her. I don't know what this means yet for Boo...I need a nice helpful consult at Dr Jean's.
I know for all of you waiting for puppies this is very annoying... I'm terribly sorry, but girls will do what girls do. I can help you find other Shiloh breeders and puppies if needed... email me at [email protected]
Ive decided to go ahead and finish Joy's testing, she only needs the xrays and bloodwork. All her heart certifications are in order. Perfect health. Dna is on file. Once she is finished upgrading, we will find her beau and she may be the next momma. She's also between heats, so I have time to prepare her.

Lots of fun pictures today!

Ok I don't know why but my posts do not reflect all these last few weeks of great pictures of Salish Sea Shilohs!
I'm trying again.

Today in paradise.
Such a cold crisp pretty day. Took the dogs out for some leafy fun.
Salish Sea Shilohs is located on the south end of Whidbey Island, a 65 mile long island in the Puget Sound about 40 miles north of Seattle. We are well known members of the ISSDC, the International Shiloh Shepherd Dog Club. We register our litters thru the WSSBA, the Worldwide Shiloh Shepherd Breed Assn based in Nova Scotia and operated by long time breeder Jan DiAngelo. Our 9 dogs (8 shilohs) enjoy a life of fun and adventure on their acres of lawns and forest. They play in the woods, splash in ponds, live as natural an existence free from the dangers of city life as possible. They were raised with gentle care and have become used to canes and people with mobility issues by being exposed to my handicapped sister, who is also very hands on with the babies. Canes are not threats, more often toys! Being part of the community of Shiloh Breeders, the dogs do not often leave the property, are not put at risk of disease or illness at dog parks and rarely at dog shows, where only Arjuna is participating. Several of them go to work daily with my husband in his construction business and the rest stay home with me, since I work from the property, manufacturing for my 45 year old jewelry company, Shadowfax Jewelry/ Bella Terra Silver. The dogs enjoy constant companionship and are never alone. Working from home makes it an ideal situation for the puppies and the big dogs who help raise and love them. They may not have city dog manners, but they get to be happy athletic creatures, beautiful, solid and strong and protective of their land and people.
Freeland is a pastoral community with a small but active shopping area and the island is served by the Washington State Ferry System, it is about 20 minutes from the Clinton/Mukilteo Ferry or the Keystone/Port Townsend ferry. We enjoy world class veterinary care by the beloved Dr Jean Dieden at Animal Hospital By The Sea in downtown Langley just 12 minutes from home, a quick traverse thru the woods. [email protected]
People on our puppy list are welcome to visit pups after 5 weeks of age, as long as they have not been exposed to dog vaccines within 2 weeks, are sick, or work with humans with diseases dogs can acquire, like strep or staph, among others. If you are purchasing a puppy, you may attend the Litter Evaluation Testing, best known as the LER. This is held in our pole barn in Freeland, and conducted by an experienced tester at about 7 weeks of age. Puppies are able to go to their new family homes between 8 and 9 weks old. Each puppy leaves with his own little Go Bag of treats, food they are used to, kibble, bones, toys and one of their little baby blankets that they love from babyhood. Their copies of the contract, their veterinary record and in some cases a health certificate issued by our vet before air shipping or international travel are included. Files are sent by email outlining care and feeding after the initial brochure and application info files and application at first contact.
We have maintained a wait list and it is extremely rare for a puppy to not have been spoken for long before birth. Puppies are subject to 8.7% Washington state sales tax. Any available pups will be posted here on facebook, should their situations change, which does occasionally happen. We have extremely bad cell connection service here in The Hollow, but text protocol works fine, so email: [email protected] with your questions or refer to this page or the website [email protected]" rel="ugc" target="_blank">[email protected]
