With the first big winter storm of the season rolling in later today, we want to remind everyone to take care of yourselves and your furry family members this weekend. Our Animal Services Division has put together some important winter weather tips to help keep your pets safe.

During the winter months, if you are concerned about an animal in distress that is outside in Kansas City, MO, you can report it to 311 or use KC Pet Project’s online portal at https://kcpetproject.org/animal-services-division/animal-services-report-form/ to submit information.

Let’s all stay warm, safe, and cozy through the storm.

There have now been reports of two households where cats being fed raw food (the most recent brand was Monarch) contracted HPAI (highly pathogenic avian influenza). One cat death resulted. IF your cat is on raw food, please check to see if the company pasteurizes or treats the food to kill pathogens. If not, we recommend you consider transitioning your pet to a cooked form of diet (take 10 days at 10% per day) at least until they determine the risk of HPAI has passed.

Today is the 13th, our favorite and LUCKY number! Supporting our rescue is an ongoing need for funding. Imagine the impact if each person reading this donated $13 today or even better, every month – it would be significant!

$13 is a manageable amount for most people, hardly missed once given. With everyone contributing just $13, think about the number of lives that could be saved. Isn't a homeless dog's life worth $13? If you follow a rescue group on social media, you likely agree they are deserving. Your donation, no matter the amount, is valued.

💥GREAT NEWS! From August 10th to September 10th, you have an opportunity to double your contribution through the Clear the Shelters Fund! Hills Pet and The Animal Rescue Site will match donations made through our link: https://donate.clearthesheltersfund.org/page/Lucky13Rescue

**You can also donate through our website at https://lucky13rescue.org/donate-1 or through the donation button below (Facebook only), but donations will only be matched if using the link mentioned above through the Clear The Shelters Fund.

Thank you for your support!

Excessive heat will take hold today & last through Thursday with heat indexes exceeding 105-110 in several areas of the state. The longevity of this heat is a concern, especially for vulnerable groups & those outdoors for long periods of time. Please take safety precautions, stay hydrated & limit outdoor exposure as much as possible. NEVER leave kids or pets in the car. Know the signs of heat illness & when to take action!
