Mitch has always been a healthy horse (yes, I’ve knocked on wood several times this week!) but last Wednesday he was exhibiting a weird mix of symptoms ranging from what made us think mild colic to some kind of bug/infection/virus.
He was a touch dehydrated, very lethargic, anorexic, and you could see him visibly working through some stomach pains/cramps.
He was tubed and we treated symptomatically, vet retuned the following day because he went a bit backwards in his recovery.
Mind you, all this time, vitals are “normal.” Bloodwork was only slightly off, low WBC. The decision was made to send f***l and blood samples off to Cornell.
Mitch has Equine Enteric Coronavirus

I am happy to report he’s nearly 100% and Inessa was even able to lesson with Bobbi today (yay!).
It’s contagious via f***s, the barn is following bio security measures, and we’re still not sure how it got on the farm, but so far the horses who’ve been sick have been fairly text book and mild. Mitch wasnt the first sick, but he was the first tested. At least we know whats going on.
Thank you Dr. Lisa Weisensel Nesson for getting to the bottom of this and big thanks the barn crew for helping me doctor my poor sick baby Mitchell.
