While things have been rather quiet around here regarding the rabbits and other critters, I did want to announce my litter of UKC Bluetick Coonhounds! Both parents are beloved family pets, but I also use them and a pup from an older litter of the same cross for pleasure hunting. Misty and Sampson had 8 girls and 3 boys born on 11/5/21! We have feeders!

With our new rat racks in full production, we are able to offer live feeder rats more consistently than before. Frozen are available on a limited basis and we ask that you give us a few days to process your order.

Located in Fremont, OH, we are available to meet up most evenings, as well as during the day on Wednesdays Saturdays, and Sundays. We are hoping to get regular meetups going in various cities around the area - Bowling Green, Toledo Sandusky, Tiffin, etc. If you are interested, please message us so we can get the details worked out! Delivery is also available to Columbus and the Detroit area.

In addition to feeder rats, we all offer pets and breeders. All animals are selected primarily for temperament - biting is not tolerated, nor is maternal aggression. We believe that even feeder animals are worth putting effort into breeding for ease of handling and temperament, and they receive the same time and care our pets and breeders get. We have a wide variety of colors and coats we work with, including various blue varieties, self blacks, odd-eye, silvermane, satin, rex, martens, and more.

What are you doing to help your animals keep cool in this heat? Our muscovy ducklings are thoroughly enjoying a swim in their little pool! The chickens and quail got a good misting from the hose, as well as the roof and shade cloth on the sides of the pen. Putting Mother Nature to work with some evaporative cooling!

Hands down, my favorite breed of chicken has always been the Salmon Faverolle. I had some back when I was in college (both times 😂😂) and finally have some again now!

The first batch was ordered as pullets only from Cackle Hatchery. They are now a few months old.

This past weekend, I picked up 5 more chicks locally, straight run this time. Right off the bat, I already know there is one cockerel and one pullet in the bunch. The cockerels for this breed start out with black wing feathers, and the pullets start with a mottled tan/black. Also, you can tell by the shape of the wings at this age. The cockerels will be very pointy, whereas the pullets grow in almost evenly straight across.

On a side note.. anybody looking for a Faverolle rooster? He can't stay here 🙄 😂😂

We will be teaming up with our good friends at Feeders Direct to be making a transport run from the Toledo, OH area to Charlotte, NC this weekend! Our itinerary is not set in stone yet, but we will likely be leaving Ohio Saturday evening and arriving in Charlotte Sunday morning, making the return trip the same day. Included is a screenshot of the route we will be taking.

Between us, we have an assortment of things available that can be delivered anywhere along our route. I can include pictures in the comments as I get them as well as more info. Welcome to Black Swamp Menagerie's page! I have been raising a variety of different animals over the years, but finally decided it was time to put a name to it. We are a small, urban hobby farm in Northwest Ohio. I have always had an interest in self sufficiency and have a number of projects for that purpose that blend in with a life inside city limits - as well as some that are just for pleasure.

I have been operating Roobie's Rabbit Tree since 2001 (and will continue to use that name for the rabbitry). While a number of different breeds have come and gone, my passion lies with the Harlequin breed, particularly the Magpie varieties. I currently breed primarily for my own use, while still striving to produce top show quality animals despite rarely actually hitting the show tables anymore.

Fancy rats are another species that has been around here for quite some time. I currently breed mostly for feeder purposes. I enjoy playing around with color ans coat genetics and these guys give me a nice outlet for that. Good, docile temperaments are a must - I have no desire to work with animals that can't be easily handled. I do have pet and breeder quality animals that I will let go from time to time - feel free to inquire!

I started raising Coturnix Quail this year for meat and eggs. Again, I enjoy playing around with the colors on these guys and learning how genetics work with birds. They are quickly becoming a favorite around here! I often have fertile and eating eggs available, as well as birds ranging from chicks to adults.

Some of the other animals include my Bluetick Coonhounds for hunting, and chickens and muscovy ducks for eggs and meat. The hounds are mostly for pleasure hunting at this point as I haven't gotten into the competition side yet. Maybe some day! Eventually I plan to have muscovy hatching eggs and ducklings available... but that may be a "next year" project. 😉

The next batch of Coturnix Quail chicks hatched this weekend! So far, there are 77 chicks with a wide variety of colors present. Message me if you might be interested in learning more about these guys!
