We are updating our foster database and we need your help! Foster Care is an incredible way to get involved while helping animals get set up for success in their future homes. This program is designed to provide temporary homes for animals that are not physically or behaviorally ready for adoption. Foster volunteers open their homes and hearts to provide animals with needed comfort, care, and love to get ready for adoption. A variety of foster homes are needed for small and large, feathers and scales, hooves and paws. If you are interested in fostering, please give us a call for more information. Thank you!

Donation Request! Jalene has eaten all of our tennis balls and she is now sad because there are no more tennis balls to play with! Many of our dogs enjoy playing fetch in our dog run when it's their turn for off leash play! The great thing is, they don't care if they are new or gently used! Tick season lasts from spring to early fall, with peak activity for the Lyme-disease-bacteria carrying blacklegged (or deer) tick hitting first between May and June and again in the fall. Help find Simon a home! He's a 5-year old purr machine who loves to burrow in his bed! He's super playful with toys and is talkative with people! He does come with some special needs! He has a heart murmur (grade 3/6) and skin allergies. Current treatment for allergies is a steroid, no treatment for heart murmur. He also hates other cats here at the shelter! They serve an important function. Whiskers are finely tuned sensory equipment that guide a cat through daily functions. These specialized hairs aid vision and help a cat navigate the environment, providing additional sensory input, much like antennae on insects.

Remember Blackbeard? We have an update on him! Back in July we asked for donations after he was found attacked by a dog and had damage to his muscular layer of his abdominal cavity. Our veterinarian has declared him healthy and ready for adoption! Thank you to everyone who donated towards his care! He would love for everyone to visit the shelter to meet him. HELP! We are running low on wet dog food and need help restocking our shelves! Pedigree & Cesar are our preferred wet food. Keeping the dogs on a consistent diet helps them maintain happy digestive systems.
Donations can be dropped off at the shelter Monday thru Friday 1-5pm and Saturday 1-4pm. A dog license is also required to be purchased for Sandusky County residents at time of adoption, which is an additional $20.75. Please visit the shelter to meet them, we show dogs Monday through Friday 1pm-4:30pm and Saturday 1pm- 3:30pm. Once everyone in the home has visited the shelter, you are then eligible to submit an adoption application for review. Please note, we do not offer same day adoptions and there is a $10 non-refundable application fee.

All of our monies are derived from local contributions and fund raising. We can do only so much without your assistance-that's why we need your help!
Without sufficient contributions and funding our shelter cannot exist-but a shelter is only a bandage to a much bigger problem, pet overpopulation. We beg you to spay/neuter your pet and think of us when it is time to replace your beloved pet.
The Humane Society of Sandusky County was established in 1986. The purpose of the Humane Society is the prevention of cruelty to animals, the relief of suffering among animals and the establishment of humane educational programs in the Sandusky County school systems and throughout the community.

If you are interested in adopting an animal, you must fill out an application. An Adoption Counselor will look over the application and verify any information with landlords, past/present veterinarians, and also do a background check. Adoptions generally take approximately 2-4 business days. We do not allow an animal to go home the same day. It is important to remember that we may have multiple applications for one animal, and our goal is to match the animal with the best fit for them.
We’ve partnered with Westview Veterinary Hospital here in Fremont, OH to offer a discount, low cost, spay & neuter program for the community. Vouchers can be purchased at the shelter during business hours and have no expiration date. Cash, debit/credit accepted with service charge.
