Next time you feel inspired to buy yourself a bouquet at the grocery store or farmer’s market, don’t forget that certain blooms are HIGHLY toxic for cats! Popular springtime flowers such as daffodils, tulips, daisies, and lilies are poisonous to cats, and as cats can climb and jump onto surfaces that often seem “out of the way,” they can pose a serious danger to their health.
If you catch your cat eating a flower and you are unsure if it's poisonous, take the following steps before contacting your veterinarian:
1. Carefully remove any of the flower from your cat’s hair and mouth.
2. Monitor your cat closely and keep them inside.
3. Call Animal Poison Control: 1-888-426-4435.
If your cat has developed symptoms such as skin or eye irritation, vomiting, diarrhea, or difficulty breathing, call us immediately at 510-657-6343.
