It is with a heavy heart that our beloved Lulu crossed over the rainbow bridge, yesterday Nov, 10, 2024 at 9.45am.
Though we did not want her to go, but an important decision was made to ease her increasing suffering
As many of you know, she was diagnosed with Stage 3 Sarcoma in December 2023 after having her checked by Central Vet , in Fremont. This led to biopsies, lab work, x rays, and ct scans. This diagnosis led us to Beacon Vet Clinic for a radical removal of a lump that she had at the base of her right scapula. Which she did quite well. Beacon Vet , in turn sent us to Sage Vet Clinic for further treatment. More blood work, meds, x rays, ct scans and pain meds. We were determined to give her the best options. We chose chemotherapy. After a chest x ray and the 7th chemotherapy we decided she could not continue, because a mass in her right lung got larger. The other state of the art therapies could not guarantee 100% remission. So, we decided to stop in August ish.
We decided to give her the remaining best life ever. Daily walks to our local parks, which she fully enjoyed, barking at every dog she met. Extra car rides. All sorts of fancy treats and human foods. We took her on a wonderful trip to Kyburz California. A fantastic cabin in the woods that my daughter Angela set up. The trip was meant as a farewell.
But in these last couple of weeks, we could tell that she was changing. Additional lumps were found, loss of at least 2 lbs, slowly not eating, barking, loss of interest, labored breathing, no yapping and minimal walking. These last 2 weeks were becoming a struggle, and the sparkle was leaving her happy face.
Me and my daughter made the decision to put her at peace. We could not risk her getting worse and possibly passing away during the night and increase her suffering. So the night before, we showed her extra, extra love and made sure she ate a tiny meal of filet mignon and rice.
Yesterday the vet from Lap of Love Hospice came to our home. A very kind and wonderful vet. And after 30 minutes she proceeded. Lulu, the worlds happiest rat terrier crossed the rainbow bridge at 945 am with Angela holding her. Last loving breath at 945 am. For you see Angela rescued her and she bonded with her. Lulu was her dog, her buddy, her friend, for 13 fantastic years.
Lulu is now in a better place. No more struggling to breathe. No more lack of interest. And no more pain. Though we are deeply grieving the loss of Lulu, Lulu knew it was the best choice for her comfort. We could not allow any more suffering. We could not allow our own selfishness of wanting to keep her and endure her declining health.
Lulu , we will miss you. No more waiting for us to get home. No more ball throwing. No more constant yapping on your window cat perch. No more jumping at us. No more walks, parties with the family or other adventures. No more basking in the sunlight every morning. No more fun Paws Fremont dog shows. You stole our hearts when you left.
Lulu you were the world’s best dog, friend, and companion .Goodbye Lulu, Moposipiries, chucho, mija and all the other silly names we gave you. 13 years of fun were not enough.
We thank you for you gave our Lulu. The vets at Central Vet , Fremont Ca. Beacon Vet, Fremont Ca. Sage Vet, Oncology, Redwood City , Trupanion and Lap of Love Hospice for all the care that they gave for our beloved Lulu
Much love, Miriam Z and my daughter Angela A.
