Let’s talk about {OODLES} or anything that ENDS with that. Our rescue is SLAMMED with them. The humane societies, the brick & mortar shelters, the foster based friends, THE STREETS, our areas is beyond full of anything that ends in DOODLE because of the Midwest mills. Let me say it again. BECAUSE OF THE MIDWEST MILLS. Anything with a curly coat is where it’s at, right? WRONG! I often hear ppl who haven’t done their research say “we want a purebred doodle so we won’t be seeking one in rescue..” we want something hypoallergenic, that doesn’t shed, allergies, low energy, blah. WRONG & I just hate that because it shows why so many are wanting a doodle. There is NOTHING about them that is purebred. They’re all mixed. They have dander, some sheds they’re the furthest from a low energy dog, THEY ARE MIXED BREEDS & you’re doubling the genetic nightmare they can inherit. There are NO ethical doodle breeders & yes I know ppl will argue with me but I’ll die on this hill. We have saved no less that 60 doodle forms in our young 7 months. We’ve pulled from shelters, mills, owner surrenders & on the daily having to turn away surrender request from ppl who haven’t done their research. We try to send to other doodle rescues who are also turning dogs away because there are just too many. Im here today as a gentle reminder to do your research, to do it again, & THEN if that’s for you, adopt. Puppies, adults, teens, young adults, & so many more are literally overcrowding the shelters & rescues & it’s a lot. You’re breeding them faster than we can save them & it really sucks. Have a doodle question? Ask. We’re here to help educate & slow the supply & demand for an insanely misunderstood, overpopulated, extremely exploited breed & we are tired. I have 16 doodles from 8 weeks to 12 years in my surrender inbox right now. IT IS TOO MUCH! End puppy mills, end breeding for greed, end the breeder manipulations & lies, & SUPPORT LOCAL RESCUES & SHELTERS WHO ARE CLEANING UP THIS MESS. Stay well & do big things today, friends. Love to you all, - an extremely tired rescuer.

📷 🐾 We are looking for one or two Los Angeles-based photographers to donate their time to take pics of our adoptable huskies. Many of our adoptable dogs don’t have pics that truly do them justice and we are hoping that better pics will help them to find their forever homes! 🐾 📸 We will provide credit and links to the photographs when we post them, and will also post/share some of the photographer’s other works on our IG and FB pages too!

If you are interested in being considered please email [email protected] with PHOTOGRAPHER in the subject line and please include a link to your website and/or attachments to some of your work. Thank you!

Hello everyone! With the recent announcement by the West Coast Boxer Club, there is a definite need for a UKC club that can pick up where WCB left off. My name is Anastasia Cervelli Bopp, and my husband Douglas and I, along with my good friend Patty Pisano started looking into starting a UKC club about two years ago. At just about this same time, WCB started having their two big shows every year, so we had shelved our plan to host shows for the time being and supported WCB heavily. With the WCB stepping down, we want to resume our discussions and get moving toward starting a club that would cover our area and host shows on a regular basis.
A little about us:
I have bred, shown and trained Siberians since 1993, and am very passionate about my dogs and program. Traditionally I did just conformation, however we have expanded towards enjoying coursing and rally events as well. My husband Douglas and I grew up showing 4H and FFA, and so working with animals is something we truly enjoy and competition isn’t new to us. We’ve also ran a youth softball league of 200+ players for several years and managed huge tournaments and events for that. We understand the importance of details when putting events together, and we also know that it’s vital to work with other people to make sure that events run smoothly. We know how to find venues, we know how to find vendors we know about insurance and all aspects of event planning.

Patty Pisano is my friend and partner. She calls me her boss but I call her my partner because I couldn’t do dogs at the level we do without her. In our program she raises all of our puppies and I maintain the majority of the adults, and it’s a great partnership. She previously worked in accounting for the State before retiring, and has been showing dogs since the 80’s.

We both are blessed to have dedicated husbands and enough land to house our dog projects, and very much want to see UKC succeed not only for the sake of our own dogs, but for the sake of others. Purebred dogs are a treasure that are being attacked politically at every turn. The only way to combat this is to stick together as dog lovers and bring awareness to others that purebred dogs are just as important as doodles, and need to be celebrated!

We invite you to speak up here, let us know who you are and where you are from… and what you are looking for in your own UKC experience. For us, we want to see those big four day twice a year clusters continue. We would also like to perhaps sponsor extra days to make the Windhound show a bigger event, and host smaller shows over a weekend throughout the year. Location of course is important, and we are looking to do some of the bigger things in the Fresno/Madera area not only because it’s our home turf but also because we know venues here and can network to get the best pricing which means lower cost for our attendees… but we also want to do weekend events in other areas such as the Bay Area. At this point we will be looking for some board members to really get the ball rolling. So if you are interested in that please let us know. Let’s all work together and put together some amazing events in Central California! 🐩🐕🦮🐕‍🦺

With great sorrow and a heavy heart, we announce the passing of K-9 Rudy. Rudy succumbed to injuries tonight sustained during the search for a wanted suspect.

Just last month, Rudy and his handler Deputy Day received 1st place honors at the Las Vegas Metro Police K-9 Trials in the Handler Protection Category.

A press release with further details on the incident will follow.

AKC Announces New Breed

The American Kennel Club is proud to announce the addition of a new breed to the Terrier Group, effective April 1. The Silver-Coated Pouch Terrier is known for his hardy constitution and characteristically “wobbly” but surprisingly efficient movement, capable of tremendous reach and drive. Like so many breeds, the history of the SCPT is lost in the mists of time, but we know that his association with humans reaches back to antiquity. His lush, silver-sable double coat needs only minimal maintenance, requiring a bath only about once a year or whenever he becomes smelly. A defining characteristic of the breed is his gently rounded (though not roached) back, with his long, somewhat hairless tail carried low and continuing the graceful curve of the topline. The tail is traditionally undocked.

Fanciers especially praise the breed for ease in puppy-raising, as the dams have a habit of carrying the litter around with them in the female’s unique abdominal pouch until the pups are ready to go to their new homes. Like most terriers, the “Pouchie” (as he is known by his adoring fans) can be fierce as needed when confronting his prey, but otherwise he is very docile and largely goes about minding his own business at a slow pace, so he makes a wonderful companion for the owner with a more sedentary lifestyle. The breed is also well suited to owners with insomnia, as the Pouchie tends to enjoy activity during the night and into the wee hours of the morning.

With the breed’s stubbornness and independence, training can be a challenge, and a lack of response to sensory signals such as bright oncoming lights can cause frustration for the trainer. The breed is not recommended for the agility aficionado; although they are excellent climbers and manage the A-frame with astounding skill, they seem incapable of jumping even the smallest of hurdles.

The Pouchie comports himself well in the show ring, although as outlined in the standard judges should note that the bite is not to be examined, and the breed is not to be sparred. Experienced exhibitors know to always remember that if the Pouchie feels threatened he may suddenly collapse in the ring and will resist any attempts to get him to resume the down-and-back or whatever else he was supposed to be doing. If this occurs, it is recommended that the steward have the exhibitor gently drag the entry to a safe location outside the ring. It will also be the steward’s job to reassure any spectators or novice exhibitors who may be alarmed at the Pouchie's apparent lifeless state that he will in fact be OK in several hours.

Please join us in welcoming this handsome and highly adaptable breed to the Terrier Group.

(Edited to update (4/2): Sorry, but despite his many charms, the SCPT will not actually be joining the Terrier Group anytime soon ... the above post was created in fun for April 1.)
