This weekend be a part of the enrichment fun! Watch as our Zoological Care Specialists give the animals icy treats and other cool-themed enrichment throughout the day! During the event, for each ice cream purchased at the Zoo, $1 will be donated to benefit our Animal Enrichment Committee. 🍦 ❄️ ☃️

AZA institutions like ours work with conservation partners, like SAFE, to protect sharks & rays. And it's helping! Our collective efforts have supported legislative actions & science-based fishery management to protect sharks and rays in the wild. Overfishing is the primary threat for 100% of these species. Supporting campaigns that address excessive & unsustainable fishing practices & insisting on sustainability when we shop are simple ways to help towards better ocean health.

Giraffes are one of the most iconic and recognizable animals in the world. Unfortunately, giraffe populations have significantly declined over the years. The SAFE Giraffe Action Plan seeks to reduce threats to this species through recovery plans across multiple African countries including: Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Key goals include wildlfire prevention and illegal poaching control and reduction.

Pacific Leatherback Sea Turtles are the largest turtles in the world, commonly weighing between 750 and 1000lbs! Despite their large size, Pacific Leatherbacks are the most endangered population of Leatherbacks. They face significant threats from getting caught in fishing nets, hunting, illegal egg collecting, coastal development, pollution, and climate change. You can help Pacific Leatherbacks and other aquatic species by choosing sustainable seafood when you shop!

The sunflower sea stars are the largest species of sea star. They also have the most arms; up to 24! Rapid changes in temperature, pollution, and decreased pH are potential causes of Sea Star Wasting syndrome, causing the species to decline greatly.

On June 3rd, we released 20 more blunt-nosed leopard lizards back to their natural habitat in Panoche Plateau. Visit our newly opened Conservation Action Center to learn about our ongoing conservation project to save this critically endangered species.

Have you spotted one of our newer bird species additions to the Zoo? Meet the wattled jacana. This mid-sized bird has exceptionally long toes and is often found in wetlands. You can see these guys wading by the streams in our Tropical Rainforest habitat. 🐦
