🐾✨ Understanding the 3-3-3 guideline can make a world of difference for newly adopted pets!

When you bring a dog or cat home, remember this:

1️⃣ The first 3 days are all about adjustment. Your new furry friend may be nervous and overwhelmed as they settle into their new environment. Be patient and give them space.

2️⃣ The next 3 weeks are for building trust. During this time, your pet will start to feel more comfortable and may show their true personality. Gentle interactions and routines will help them feel secure.

3️⃣ Finally, after 3 months, your pet should start to feel fully at home! By this point, they’ll be more confident and ready to bond with you.

Calling all animal lovers! 🐾

APS-FH is always looking for dedicated volunteers to help us care for our furry friends and make a difference in their lives. Whether you can spare a few hours a week or more, your time and love can help us provide a safe and nurturing environment for our animals.

We have multiple opportunities for our volunteers such as helping out at the shelter via dog/cat socializing and general cleaning, fostering our shelter animals, and helping out at our resale store Treasure Hounds!

Thank you to Old Dog Haven for sharing our boys! ❤️

Duke and W***y are patiently awaiting their furever home. 🐾
Visit anytime 11am-4pm Tuesday-Sunday to meet them and receive their kisses!

This loving pair is back for a TWOSDAY share! Duke and W***y are cross posted for the Animal Protection Society of Friday Harbor. Wouldn't it be awesome to help them find an adoptive home together?

Meet W***y and Duke! These playful beagle mixes are looking to land a forever home together. They've been bonded since birth! The boys are 11 years old and weigh about 40 pounds each.

They are so funny and sweet together, you'll always be smiling. They are great while on leash and love going for walks. The brothers love eating together, cuddling, and playing with one another. They definitely have some good senior energy to burn! They love going on adventures and hikes with our volunteers. Silly W***y is always providing kisses and love, while sweet Duke is quiet and calm. The best duo!

San Juan 4-H offers fantastic opportunities for young animal lovers through its Cat and Dog Clubs!

These clubs provide hands-on experiences, teaching members about proper care, training, and health for their pets. Participants engage in fun activities, learn essential skills, and even have the chance to showcase their pets at local fairs and events.

Joining a 4-H club is a great way to make friends, build confidence, and develop leadership skills while fostering a love for animals.

As summer approaches, it’s important to raise awareness about the dangers of leaving dogs in hot cars.

Did you know that the temperature inside a parked car can soar to dangerous levels in just minutes? Even on a mild day, the temperature can rise 20 degrees Fahrenheit within 10 minutes.

Always remember to check the weather and plan accordingly. If you see a dog left alone in a car, don’t hesitate to take action—contact local authorities.

APS-FH would love to recognize and appreciate our amazing medical team! We celebrate the vital role that our staff play in well-being of our beloved pets.

Providing daily check ins for our shelter pets and managing our spay/neuter and wellness clinics are a few of the many ways our team ensures that every animal receives the love and attention they deserve.

Big news, everyone! 🎉

W***y and Duke have officially become Bark Rangers at San Juan Island National Historical Park thanks to Ranger Zoé!

If you see them patrolling the trails in their ranger bandanas, be sure to give them a treat and a good scritch, because they are workin’ hard!

With their super sniffer skills and wagging tails, they’re here to remind everyone to bag your pet’s waste, always leash your pet, respect wildlife, and know where you can go.

Join us in welcoming them to their important mission of protecting our beautiful park and spreading the love for the great outdoors! 🌲
