Pet parents these days are starting to raise the standards of care they expect for their dogs.
Similar to AirBnB we now have websites with listings of dog walkers and pet sitters that you can book at the click of a button. While it seems appealing and safe, it often isn’t. Many people these days see pet care as an easy side hustle in a tough economy because there is no barrier to entry.
😱 No regulations and rules means you don’t have to invest in education, skills or training unless you are in the veterinary industry.
⚠️ This is a dangerous reality that dog guardians need to and ideally screen pet care professionals like their life depends on it. Because it does.
Using pet care as a side hustle:
👎 Responsibility and impact; anyone in your pet’s care is influencing and impacting their behaviour, welfare and well-being
👎 It implies that working with animals isn’t a profession deemed worthy of education, skills and knowledge
👎 It lowers expectations for pet care professionals
It cheapens the work of professionals who are taking the initiative to become educated and competent within the field
