Message us to schedule a time to meet an animal, pick up a lost pet, or for any other service. Adams County Humane Society, despite our name, is a non-profit, privately run animal shelter. Financially, ACHS runs entirely on donations, adoptions, events and fundraisers. We help the people and animals in our community by taking in and caring for cats and dogs who are strays or owner surrenders. The

ACHS adoption process is thorough, in order to match animals and people who are a good fit for each other. Our efforts go into educating the public on animal care, wellness and safety. We work to inform the public that an animal adoption is a lifetime commitment, as animals are not disposable! We are not a department of the Adams County Government. People ask why we don't change our name? Well that would require a lot of legal work to accomplish and we much prefer to spend the money on the welfare of our animals! Lic. #266944-DS

Meet Addie! Addie is 8 years young! Addie keeps up with all the "littles" at the shelter. He gets along very well with other cats and dogs. He is a one person guy. Loves sitting on your lap, pets, kisses and likes being brushed. With a routine, he just excels and makes a great companion. Planning on adopting? You have to check out Ember! She is awesome! Ember is crate-trained and plays well with other dogs. She follows commands, but is happy hanging on the porch in her patch of sun! She is a hugger. How do I know? She has had a few sleepovers with us. Ember is well-behaved, and a great little girl. She loves car rides and pup cups. Check out her profile on our website. We are reaching out for your help. Ali is in desperate need of a foster or permanent home. Despite our efforts to make her comfortable, she is still very stressed. Her human had to surrender her due to medical issues. She stated that Ali is the most loving dog she ever had. She loves adults, children and belly rubs, but NOT other dogs or cats. So this is what we do... One of our volunteers got to the scene first and video taped while waiting for the other woman to arrive with the shelter van and necessary equipment to safely catch the six abandoned dogs. Abandoned animals are frightened and don't know who they can trust. Rarely do they run up to a stranger and readily hop into their vehicle. Please understand these poor babies were terrified, making it very difficult to catch them while keeping them from getting hit by a car or escaping into the cornfield. All six dogs were caught and brought to our shelter. They are now safe in foster care! It was a good day. We saved six more lives. Volunteers Rock! Meet Bandit! He is an American Blue Heeler mix who was brought in as a stray a week ago. If you are interested in meeting Bandit please read our adoption requirements on our website. Gorgeous Heidi is a 7 years old German Shepherd waiting for a furever home. She was brought in as a stray at the end of April and sadly nobody ever came for her. Heidi is friendly and energetic and is ready to join you on your next adventure!

Eevie is almost 10 months old and has come so far since arriving at the shelter at the end of December. She didn't want anything to do with anybody those first few months.
